Out of curiosity, do you perfer BJ w/or without his mustache? Why? Also, does anybody know for certain why he suddenly grew a mustache? Was it Mike just wanting one, or did the producers of MASH want one for a reason?

I felt compelled to vote for B.J. with the mustache since I have one myself. I read somewhere that the mustache was actually Alan Alda's idea. A way to make B.J. more distinct from Trapper John and to establish another character point about B.J. other than the initials.

Why am I not surprised...

I bet it was his idea to kill off Henry Blake, have Klinger stop wearing dresses, and basically sucking all the fun out of the show too. They never should have let that guy get control of that show. He was on ER for a little while. I bet he's responsible for the downfall of that show too! :p

In his defense, West Wing's cool w/him, and Scientific America was decent lol!

 Yeah, me too! Trapper and Hawkeye were a lot goofier together, which I prefer to the Hawkeye-like self-righteousness of B.J.. I should clarify, that is B.J. after the mustache. Before that he was a lot more interesting.

I prefer how he looks clean-shaven. If I remember correctly, Mike Farrell was clean-shaven again no later than 1984, the year after M*A*S*H left the air, so he probably did just have it for the show, or his new wife Shelley Fabares hated it.

When BJ grew the mustache he became a big whiny baby.

Remember the episode when he was bitching abut how much he missed Peg and Erin? Oh wait, my mistake. That was EVERY EPISODE IN THE FINAL FOUR SEASONS!

Now that we've seen Season 7 on DVD in brodcast order and maybe watched them that way, I have an observation.

It almost seems like Peace On Us should have been the season premier episode. The season starts out with "Commander Pierce" and in the first scene, Potter is woken up from a dream where Mildred is wearing BJs moustache.

In Peace On Us, the episode begins with an assembly and BJ looks a little ragged. The 'stach is there and the rest of him is pretty unshaven. It has more of a feel to me like it was reintroducing characters we haven't seen for a summer during its initial run. In that episode, they start making wierd comments about the moustache; pointing it out like we don't see it.

I don't know if Peace On Us was produced before Commander Pierce but it just has that 'reintroduction' feel. I just found it odd that they make such a big deal about pointing the moustache out in Peace On Us and then in Commander Pierce, Potter makes a comment about it before we've even seen BJ with it in person....and that episode aired first in the initial run.

I don't know if it is aired in that order in syndication but its just my observation...any thoughts?
