View Full Version : Movies with sad endings...
Ireneparalegal 02-09-2006, 01:45 PM What are your fave movies that have sad endings? You can include t.v. movies too:
The Rose w/Bette Midler
La Bamba
Romeo & Juliet original version
Sweet Dreams Jessica Lange (Story of Patsy Cline)
Dean Winchester 02-09-2006, 01:57 PM one thing I hate about biopics like La Bamba and Selena is that you ended up getting emotionally wrapped up in the other peoples lives as well, and would've been nice to know what Richie's brother and mother did after the plane crash, or what Selena's family were up to after her murder, but it acted like they died when their famous sibling died too, especially the way Selena's family were trivialized in getting "wrapped up" in the movie being notified of her death in the hospital instead of actually seeing what became of them afterwards.
Moonlight Lady 02-09-2006, 02:00 PM Love Story
Avalon

Brian's Song

Did you know Ritchie Valens mother appeared in La Bamba?? Yep she sure did. She died a few years later.
Selena's family wanted her story to be told, not their lives. But I can tell you this. Selena's brother is an accomplished musician who founded the succesful Kumbia Kings. A latin group that has won many awards and have hit albums. He also has kids with different women:rolleyes: Selena's sister has decided to be out of the limelight and she is married. Selena's husband remarried (i think) anyways, he has a child with a woman, I don't know if he actually married her. But they live together and he remains in touch with Selena's family because he considers them his family.

It was great, though. Movies about people with AIDS always get to me.

Those kinds of movies get to me too. Any kind of movie where someone's dying of a disease, regardless of what the disease is, gets to me. I agree, it is an awesome movie!! Probably one of my top three favorite films of all time. The music in the movie is also really beautiful. I especially like the theme song, "My Great Escape," by Marc Cohn. One of the best songs in movie history IMO. I never understood though why the song wasn't put on the soundtrack?? It was too good to not be on there!!

Selena's brother, AB, went through a really really horrible period of depression after she died and started drinking and stuff. But yeah the Kumbia Kings. Did you know that Frankie J was originally part of the Kumbia Kings? Yep but then he went solo.
Selena's sister, Suzette, actually runs Selena's boutiques and helps her dad with the record label (Q Productions). She also comes up with the concepts and themes for a lot of the CD's they release. But yeah shes married and has a son that's like 10 or 11.
And yes, Chris is married to that other woman (whose name I cant think of right now). They actually have two kids now. The second one was born last year, right after the tenth anniversary of Selena's death. Chris also had a band for a while and they won a Grammy. I dont know if they're still together or not.
I'm not really sure what happened to the other band members.
Ireneparalegal 02-14-2006, 01:18 AM A.B.'s official website for the band is: www.loskumbiakings.com I also believe if you access this website, you can get a link to his myspace link.

Brad Russ 02-14-2006, 12:45 PM Brad: what is the cure about?
It's about an 11 year old boy played by Joseph Mazzello, who is diagnosed with Aids after receiving a blood transfusion. Him and this other boy played by Brad Renfro, form an incredibly close bond and friendship, and go out on a search for the cure, after reading an article in the Enquirer about some guy from Louisianna, who claims to have found the cure. It's an amazing movie. Here's a better description of it:
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This heartfelt drama tells us it's an AIDS movie that's not about AIDS. When this film keeps its promise (roughly the first three-quarters), it's a winner, a film about a truly notable friendship between two 11-year-old boys. Diagnosed with AIDS from a blood transfusion, Dexter (Joseph Mazzello) has gratefully bypassed most of Kübler-Ross's stages of death. He is, however, an outcast among his peers until Erik (Brad Renfro) comes along and finds him quite normal. Their bond deepens as they look for a cure for the disease using odd forms of scientific theory. Part educational text, part Mark Twain adventure, part tearjerker, the movie relies on something not found in movies these days: a love affair of male friendship. At its center are two of the best pre-actors around. Mazzello (Jurassic Park) has a professional presence on screen. The wild card is Renfro in only his second role (the other was The Client). As the outgoing, Huck Finn-ish boy, he has impressive physical abilities that communicate a naturalness on screen. The film's sappy hospital scenes bog down the picture tremendously, but they do lead to two special scenes that end the movie. The Cure is an assured directorial debut by TV actor Peter Horton (thirtysomething). An interesting note: single mothers raise both kids, a fact never lingered on--refreshingly so--in the script written by Robert Kuhn. --Doug Thomas
