Hey ya'll!
From reading these message boards, I think that people of different ages and ethnicities were hooked on GT and I think that that is fantastic because GT was a show that not only could make you laugh, but you could also learn some stuff from watching it. Soooooooo.....I guess, I'm curious - what is the age and ethnicity of everyone here? I guess I'll start with me - I'm a 22y/o black female. I started watching GT last summer when they showed the marathon and I am 100% hooked now.

That's how I feel too, that Good Times makes you laugh and you could learn something from it too. I'm a 34 yr old black man, and I used to watch Good Times in reruns in the 80's just for laughs and JJ to say DYNOMITE!!!! Then when it came back on in the late 90's I watched it, and since I was older, realized that you could really learn something about life from some of these episodes. That's the reason I love it now, for the life lessons.

I am a 16 year old Caucasian male who started watching the show about two years ago. I bought the DVDs after watching All in the Family and Sanford and Son and The Jeffersons and instantly fell in love. I love it for similar reasons that you all do - because I learned so many things from it. Much of the reason I wrote my book is because of the impact it had on me.

I really appreciate Good Times, so it got the second largest chapter in my book. I talked about so many of the different things that it taught the public - even things like hypertension.

Some of you say that this is why you like Good Times, so my book might interest you. It is coming out in December 2006 or January 2007, so if you are interested in finding out more, visit my website at www.dear-norman.com. I am putting togehter a mailing list so tell me on this blog if you are interseted or email me at www.dear-norman.com.

I turned 28 recently. I have been a member of this board for almost six years. I am a black american and cherokee/caucasian on my mother's side. If you saw me, you probably could not tell since I resemble my father more than my mother (who is african-american and indian-american/caucasian).

I remember being age six and watching Good Times on two channels in 1983: WGN channel 9 (Chicago) and WFTS 28(Tampa). Both stations aired the show at 6pm EST/ 5 CST. I never knew which one to watch. LOL.

We are such a diverse group of people watching Good Times! It just shows how far a good show can reach if it transcends all ages, and racial backgrounds!

I agree. This was a good show because it was about a "family" with characters and situations we all could learn from, laugh about, and enjoy even 30 years later.

This was a good thread btw.;)

Were the first eps you saw WITH or WITHOUT James? Just curious, because when I FIRST started watching GT, they were rerunning the 5th season. I didn't "meet" James until they started over again-lol

I am 41 years old and White (mostly English ancestry). I've been watching Good Times since it was on originally. I remember when it was on originally and I've loved it ever since. I loved seeing the GT cast on the TV Lands Awards the other night. Bernadette looked fantistic, IMHO! Ralph Carter didn't look as bad as certain recent pix led me to believe. LOL! "JJ" looks like he aged the most out of all the cast. He looked like he aged even more than John Amos. But it was great to see all of them together again.

I didn't remember what came on after Good Times (or before GT for that matter :D ) but I seem to remember GT was on Wednesday's. Is that correct, anyone???? That's what I remember but, hey, 30 years is a long time ago, I might be mistaken.

I'm a 28 year old black female. I grew up watching the show in syndication. I think the first episodes I saw were the ones with Penny. In high school, my art teacher told us he was the artist who painted all the paintings on the show. We were all like "Wow!!!" Of course, years later after studying the credits (and asking around) I discovered he was full of it.

I was about 5 or 6 when I started watching Good Times in the 70s. I didn't watch it on a regular because I was too young at the time and plus, all I remember about the show at that time was JJ saying "Dynomite". I do remember The Jacksons having a weekly, one-hour television special I think came on right after that on CBS. I remember crying myself to sleep when The Jacksons special didn't come on one night, man I was  I did however watch GT on the regular during the 80's my grade and high school years.

I really became hooked on the show when I purchased Seasons 1-4 DVD box sets about a year ago and boy are they funny:lol: Season Three is the best to me, Seasons 1 & 2 are funny too. Season 4 are the post James Evans episodes, not as funny as before but still some good episodes The main reason why I appreciate this show so much is because this show relates to the struggles of African Americans, it is something I can definately relate to. True, a lot of us did not grow up in public housing or had the constant stream of bad luck, misfortune, and hard times that the Evans family experienced but we did have family members, at least I did have relatives in public housing. The show topics are still much revelant today as they were 30 years ago.

actually it was cuter when she did it at such a young age. When she did it on Good times it wasn't the same. When she did it so young, she had this serious look on her face, very stern. On GT, she had a smirk or smile and it wasn't the same. Only young kids can get away with alot of stuff.
