View Full Version : Great Photo of "Mary Ann" Fleet 02-01-2006, 07:58 PM I found this while searching for Mary Ann photos. All I can say is WOW! :eyes: gilligan fanatic 02-01-2006, 08:12 PM yeah, that's a great picture. :D I am guessing its a screen capture because I have never seen it before. It looks like she posed for it so I could be wrong. I know you will like these Fleet http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/gilliganfanatic/Dawn%20Wells/b54dc4fd.png http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/gilliganfanatic/Dawn%20Wells/8f654b03.png Fleet 02-01-2006, 08:29 PM So, now you're teasing me with more pictures? Okay! I'll look. :D Those are good pics, too. I wouldn't mind having her dusting my house! GingerGilligan 02-02-2006, 02:54 AM I think the first picture is from "How to Be a Hero" after the Skipper rescues Mary Ann from the lagoon and Mr. Howell is taking pictures of them. BTW can someone explain what's the big deal about Mary Ann? Every guy I meet is just crazy about Mary Ann. Of course Dawn Wells was a pretty girl, but would think Ginger would be more popular. I'm a girl myself, so maybe I'm just clueless about what guys like, I don't know. ph1l 02-02-2006, 05:43 AM For me, when I was a youngster I liked Mary Ann because she and Gilligan seemed like friends and Ginger was always into kissing and hugging and hugging and kissing. Yuck! Later on as the hormones set in I always felt I would have had at least half a chance with Mary Ann but Ginger was way to glamorous and way out of my league. These days they're on a par. It wouldn't be Gilligan's Island without both of their personalities. gilligan fanatic 02-02-2006, 01:48 PM For me, when I was a youngster I liked Mary Ann because she and Gilligan seemed like friends and Ginger was always into kissing and hugging and hugging and kissing. GingerGilligan 02-07-2006, 06:47 AM Oddly enough, I could imagine myself being friends with Ginger better than with Mary Ann. To me Ginger seemed just as nice and sweet as MA, once you got to know her really well. MA seemed a little *too* bright and chipper at times for me and for someone who was supposed to be the "good girl", she showed an awful lot of skin. (I'm sure the guys aren't complaining!) ;) MA showed more skin than Ginger most of the time. Cynthia Tweety 02-08-2006, 12:22 AM ... Cynthia One of the things we guys liked about her :eyes: :eyes: When G.I. first went off the air and started being shown in reruns, I was probably 8 or 9... and I remember at that time, I thought Ginger was "hot" (or whatever words an 8 year old would use in those days)...I was attracted to her glamour, and didn't think much of Mary Ann at the time, other than probably just thinking she was cute... I was probably in high school when I decided that I liked Mary Ann better...she wasn't glamourous in the way that Ginger was, obviously, but she was a natural beauty. And when I got to college, it seemed like most of the guys were in Mary Ann's camp as well. In addition to having a beautiful face, she also possessed a number of other qualities below the neck that were highly prized by the superficial male... (not that there was ever anything wrong with Ginger in that department, but we could see a lot more of Mary Ann, thanks to the fantastic wardrobe department at the studio). Someone on these boards, probably a couple of years ago, in a "Ginger vs Mary Ann" thread, pointed out that "men want to date Ginger, but they want to marry Mary Ann". That says it well, but it's kind of hard to explain... Mary Ann just seemed like she'd be a nice girl to hang around with and bring home to meet the folks... Of course, I sure wouldn't have minded seeing Ginger in some of those Mary-Ann-ish outfits... va-va-va-vooom Fleet 02-09-2006, 12:42 AM I think the first picture is from "How to Be a Hero" after the Skipper rescues Mary Ann from the lagoon and Mr. Howell is taking pictures of them. I'm a girl myself, so maybe I'm just clueless about what guys like, I don't know. Thanks for the info. I'll have to look up that episode and watch it. Mary Ann was more "down to earth" than Ginger. She was someone who would be easy to talk to (I should know- I've talked to Dawn Wells :D ). And, as for Mary Ann showing more skin, that was definitely a plus! GingerGilligan 02-09-2006, 09:43 AM  Well, since it's all just a fantasy anyway. . .My former boyfriend once asked since there were two pretty girls on the island, why didn't Gilligan "do anything" with them, and went on to question Gilligan's sexual orientation. Of course I got mad and said that I had a crush on Gilligan when I was little and I thought he was cute, and cooed about his face, hair, voice etc. My boyfriend got all jealous and said "Well I like MARY ANN!" :P Another thing is I remember looking at old pix of my mom from the 60's and her hair was very much like Ginger, kind of shoulder length with bangs, so I thought that was cool. I thought Ginger and Gilligan seemed like really good friends too. Cynthia kooky12 02-09-2006, 03:47 PM In that first pic, that's the one where Mr. Howell is shooting the picture, and he asks her to show some knee !! Then he calls it cheesecake !! With Mrs. Howell standing right there !!!!! ph1l 02-10-2006, 03:21 AM Yeah. And I just love the look she gives him. Brrrr. :) Ohio8 03-17-2006, 07:59 PM yeah, that's a great picture. :D I am guessing its a screen capture because I have never seen it before. It looks like she posed for it so I could be wrong. I've been looking for those for a long time.:) :) glad you liked them, who wouldn't :D Fleet 03-23-2006, 01:45 AM I certainly would hire her as my maid. Maybe she would include some "fringe benefits?" :D Fleet 03-23-2006, 01:46 AM glad you liked them, who wouldn't :D Maybe Ginger? ph1l 03-23-2006, 03:20 AM I don't think Ginger's that insecure. And besides, she gets to become a beautiful princess. TV Knowledge Fan 04-17-2006, 04:48 PM ...WHY Rick Mitz, in "The Great TV Sitcom Book", remarked about the show, "It was 'THE WIZARD OF OZ' without the wizard". Mary Ann DOES look a little like Dorothy Gale, don't you think? :) Bonsai 04-17-2006, 11:13 PM As a small child, I saw Gilligan's Island before I saw the "The Wizard of Oz," so Dorothy actually reminded me of Mary Ann! Mikado 04-18-2006, 12:34 AM Mary-Ann was beautiful, had a great smile and was totally open, as opposed to that snotty, selfish Ginger...what guy WOULDNT prefer Mary-Ann???? ( And this from a guy who prefers redheads, as a rule :p ) Rich3 04-23-2006, 01:44 AM I hated Maryanne. Not as a person, but as a woman. She would have been a great friend. Very nice. But if you tried to get fresh, it seems like she would have screamed bloody murder. Regardless of the skin she was showing, she was just a tease. Ginger was cool all around. I thought she was most lovely when she played the fortune teller who predicted a rescue ship "when the moon is blue." Fleet 04-23-2006, 02:36 AM I hated Maryanne. Not as a person, but as a woman. She would have been a great friend. Very nice. But if you tried to get fresh, it seems like she would have screamed bloody murder. Regardless of the skin she was showing, she was just a tease. Depends who she was with. I don't think she would have screamed if it was Gilligan. Mr. Howell, maybe then. And it's not nice to hate Mary Ann! :nonono: GingerGilligan 04-26-2006, 06:56 AM Well, it's not nice to hate Ginger either. What was so selfish about her? The only selfish people were the Howells. I guess the character I like the least would be the Professor. Cold, pompous, arrogant, know-it-all. I much prefer Gilligan. BTW, the only time I thought Mary Ann was beautiful was when she thought she was Ginger. :) However I was surprised to see how prudish Ginger was when she saw Gilligan in nothing but a towel in her hut (when he thought he was Mary Ann.) Instead of snapping "Get out!" it would have been funnier if she smiled big and said "Ooo, looks like you're not so shy after all. . ." and watch Gilligan/Mary Ann freak out and Ginger goes for him/her. Well, id be willing to bet the network censors of the time wouldnt have allowed that, as we're talking the early-mid 1960s here, and anything that could have even SUGGESTED a lesbian undertone ( think in terms of the time ) wouldnt have been acceptable Fleet 04-26-2006, 09:52 PM Well, it's not nice to hate Ginger either. I would have liked to talk to the professor if I were stuck on the island (after talking with Mary Ann, that is). With his scientific mind and my analytical mind, it would be interesting. And Mary Ann was beautiful ALL the time! That was kinky. BTW "The Second Ginger Grant" was aired in 1967, so it's more like the late '60s when maybe the censors were starting to get a little more relaxed about that sort of thing. Ohio8 07-03-2006, 12:09 AM Here's a Mary Ann pic from the episode where she conks her head and thinks she's Ginger. Ohio8 09-23-2006, 06:58 PM I don't hate Ginger.
