I was watching "Dirty Dancing" the other day, there was nothing else to watch. I don't really care for the movie for the big reason the way the actors/actresses dress, their style of their hair, etc. is not from the 60's, the era which this movie is set in. The girls have 80's hair (duh! the movie was made in the 80's hmmmmm) they don't have those big eyelashes that the girls wore then, it is so fake. Those dresses some of the dancers wore, were not 60's style.
To me, if you are going to make a movie set in a certain time period, then by God, do some research and make the actors/actresses look like they are in that time period!

A lot of movies are ruined for me simply for the fact that they seem to want to somehow incorporate an animal being killed or traumatized. Nothing makes me turn off a movie quicker.

Robyn, I couldn't agree more on that one. That's exactly what I was going to say but you already said it for me. It's a complete turn off to me as well. The hardest cases for me to handle as a police officer are the animal cruelty cases. We don't get very many of them, thank God, but I don't need to see that stuff in the movies when I have to deal with it in real life.

wheneva theres a serious drama or horror movie and for sum dumb reason they wanna put some comedy in it...WTF?

for instance....john Q.....good movie..because of denzel of course...his acting was superb...but THEN it started getting "too fake" not to mention the corny ass jokes eddie griffin was doing.....he had nooooo business to be in there....it just ruined the movie for me....i was like shuutttt da hellll upp already damnn

another movie is "crash"....i didnt like it...although i liked the actors and the concept of the movie....but various parts ruined it for me......when ludacris and the other guy were complaining how people are scared of black people and how not all black people are robbers and gangsters...yet they go and rob a store..wtf??...that was just plain stupid....another one when they ran over the chinese guy....and the chinese guy isnt dead...but badly hurt...and u have luda and the other guy arguing with each other on what to do and thier making jokes and it was just horrible.....it was corny.......then u got the guy cursing the officers and holding a gun like a maniac...a black guy mind you...and like 5 white cops...all of thier guns pointing at him and ur gonna tell me thier not gonna shoot him?? wtf.......another one of a guy giving his little girl sum "shield" so she can be safe....and they go outside and that persian guy or wateva has a gun and he tries to shoot the guy ....but his little girl walked out or something...and supposedly the gun goes off...and the girl is dead right?.....but she survived and tells her father "shes safe with the shield".....but it was a blank shot...okay i get that...but that was just a very stupid scene.....yes im bashing the movie crash.....they tried too much in this movie

I don't know that it actually "ruins" it for me, but it does bug me when they put in gratuitous sexual implications in a film. Why must there be skin showing, or heavy breathing, or "romance" (read: bed-hopping) in a film that is about something other than a relationship?

That's funny...usually, that's the first thing that attracts me to a movie in the first place!!

John Q is a good example of what you said. It's a horrible, sad, serious topic and like you said, there is the dumb ass humor...when crap happens in real life, I doubt very much there is some dumb a$$ standing around telling bad jokes or trying to be funny.

I hate it when there's a character who was hated by a certain other character throughout a movie, and then at the end, the actor that he hated, performs some great feat, like winning a boxing match that he wasn't suppose to, or give a touching speech, and the crowd will start cheering him, and all of a sudden the guy who hated that character will look around him, see all the people cheering, and slowly start clapping himself as a big goofy grin enters his face. It's so corny and dorky, and I wish all movies would stop doing that.

What ruins it for me is the F**& word.

F**& this, F**& that.......... Can't they make any movies without saying the darn word like 200-300 times in one movie? One time I was bored and started counting the times the actors said it.

I couldn't help but think of Rocky 4 when I was reading your post. Do you really think that the Russian fans would suddenly chant "Rocky Rocky Rocky" after he beat their boxer? I don't think so. Which is another reason I hated this sequel. Rocky and Rocky 2 and 3 were great; the fourth time around sucked for the very reason you mentioned.

I know. It gets to be a bit much. And most of my favorite movies are like that. That's why I can't watch them with my family.

Although nude scenes don't bother me, my sister (who doesn't like seeing nude scenes) often wants to see some of these movies but won't because of that.

Oh my gosh, the ending to Rocky 4 was so pathetic!! Like you said, there's no way a Russian crowd would do a complete 360 like that, and start cheering for an American fighter. Even worse then that though, was the cheesy speech Rocky gave at the end of the fight. That had to have been one of the most corny things Iv'e ever seen in any movie.

How many times can they make a movie abt the white cop and the black cop? Or the serious, duh, cop and the wise-cracking black cop? They make those movies over and over again, they just used different actors.

It drives me crazy when characters know there's danger in the house, yet they go in the attic or cellar to investigate. I'd be outttttttaaa there. I guess there would be no movie if they did that.

My husband and I always notice that whenever a character coughs, it means they're coming down with a terminal illness, and a short while later, there's a graveside funeral scene.

Never fails...they cough...they die.

I may be in the minority on this one, but I hate seeing a montage in a movie. The 80's movies were very big on montages with goofy and cheesy new wave crappy 80's music playing in the background.

South Park totally ripped on that in two seperate episodes, the episode where they go to Aspen (which all in all was a parody of a number of 80's movies) and then another "montage" when Cartman is trying to perfect his act to posing as a ******** person

Team America (which was the same makers) actually used the same montage parody song in that movie's spoof montage too

I actually loved Grease 2. You gotta remember the two movies are totally different catagories. Grease was an entertaining and GOOD musical... Grease 2 was entertaining because it was a really bad 80's movie, with godawful campy songs you had to hear to believe. However, I did love "Cool Rider", Michelle Pfeiffer actually had a decent 1980's female rock voice ala Pat Benatar or Patty Smyth.

Another thing I hate in some movies (especially action movies) is the final stand off scenes take place in some abandoned wharehouse or factory. It happened in such movies as The Terminator, The Terminator 2, Barb Wire, The Believers, New Jack City...just to name a few. Where is the creativity?

Exactly. And no law enforcement comes until after the stand-off has finished.
And in those action movies, all that gunfire and no one gets hit until a thousand bullets have been fired. And again, no law enforcement until everything is over. So unrealistic.

You know another thing they do in movies that pisses me off?? When they have a character who's suppose to be nerdy, geeky, ugly, or fat, yet they hire some great looking, well known movie star to play the role by putting on a fat suit, or a ****load of makeup to ugly them up. Why the hell wouldn't you just hire an unattractive or fat person for the role, and save a bunch of money?? Iv'e never understood that. Ugly people get too few roles in Hollywood as it is, atleast let them play the roles they were actually born to play!! If they don't let ugly people play in films, how the hell am I suppose to ever achieve my dream of being in a movie?? Wise up Hollywood!!

There are agents that handle people who have specific looks, for example, people who have a weird look, out of ordinary look, no teeth, the kind of people you would turn your head around twice for...they are not circus "freaks" (excuse the term) but they are not ordinary "Hollywood" people either. I seen a documentary on this.

FX's show Nip/Tuck used the real-life conjoined twins who are joined at the head, for an episode abt conjoined twins and the surgery to separate them in their adult years. There was also a 400 pound woman who was made to look fatter (600 lbs. ) to play a woman who was stuck to her couch for years. She wanted to die. I can't remember what show that was.

I think if they had open auditions, and told people before-hand what they were looking for, then there wouldn't be anything offensive about it. For example, they can put in the paper, looking for someone 5'6" inches tall, and 300 pounds. If you think you fit that description, and are interested, please show up to this audition. There's nothing rude about that. It's not like they'd be walking up to people on the street saying: "Hey, we're looking for a fat, ugly person like you to be in a movie, and we think you'd be perfect for it." It would just be them in a professional way, (through a newspaper) saying what they're looking for, and then people who think they might fit that description could show up. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all.

Exactly. And besides, in Hollywood, they have trade papers for auditions and they sound like what Little Mel just posted. they may say: New sitcom; auditioning parts for very short people; men over 300 lbs with long beards; very tall and skinny short-haired ladies; etc. etc. That's how it is in Hollywood, however, the point Little Mel is making is that rather than pay an established star or well known actor/actress and put padding on them, why not choose someone who is already obese. I can answer that right now. Because depending on the size of the role, they may want a "known face" rather than an unknown. But still, there are established actors/actresses who may not be "well-known" but they are capable of acting, it's just getting the exposure they need.

Remakes.

Remakes are pointless and nine times out of ten they do not hold a candle to the original.

Besides, anyone who sits around and thinks of ways to update and reimage "The Dukes Of Hazzard" for a modern audience does not deserve to be in the movie business.

YES!!!! even in the commercials on television, when they show a commercial for an up-coming movie, you hear some familiar song blasting so loud, you aren't even sure what the actors are saying. I remember back in the dayz, when a commercial showed a new release at the show, you would see the trailer for the movie, no soundtrack, no loud music, etc.
