Penny got pickpocketed at a store when she wanted to buy a necklace for her mom(Willona) for 10.00. The live audience says, "Aww."(in a sad, sympathetic voice). Then someone, a male voice says, "No,no,no,!" as Penny steals the necklace after the saleslady leaves. Then the audience says, "ooooh." as the TV camera cuts to the store security camera.
Thelma doesn't want to a college because they take Affirmative action, which basically means that they wanted her because she was black. Thelma says a speech, rejecting the college, and the audience says, "Right on!"
The camera shows the iron bruise on Penny'sback and the audince goes "Ooooh(in an "Oh my god. Look at her back!"voice)
In one episode, Willona thinksthat something is wrong with JJ. This is a serious scene, and Willona checks on JJ with a worried face. Someone in the audince says, "He ain't dead!"and Willona looks at the audience and laughs for a second, and then gets back to being serious. I don't knowwhatepisode it is though.
In one episode, Willona's co-worker finds out that she herself has been under surveillanc eafter telling willona that she had secretly watched her behind her back.(the epiode where the workers surveillance women in the dressing rooms.)She tells the boss, "You've been keeping ME under surveillance?"The audience says, "Yeah!"and enthusiastically claps and Willona says, 'Ain't that funny? The watcher of the watcheris being watched."Willona watched the women trying on clothes to seeif they shoplifted), her co-worker had her undersurveillance, and the boss had HER under surveillance.
To me, if the audience talks in the episode scene, it makes it more memorable for me. Like, I remembered the Thelma's College episode for YEARS because someone said, "Right on!"
