View Full Version : Favorite Sitcom Creator
Nighthawk76 01-29-2006, 09:25 PM Who do you think is the greatest creator of sitcoms ever?
I am going with Michael Jacobs. Jacobs co-created Charles In Charge and was the head writer of the first (and best!) season and co-created and produced Boy Meets World. He also created and produced My Two Dads (well, nobody's perfect).
Classicshowsgurl15 01-29-2006, 10:30 PM I think Gary David Goldberg Creator of Family Ties and Spin City
Mr. Television 01-29-2006, 10:43 PM Norman Lear
He created All In The Family, Sanford And Son, Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, ODAAT, Mary Hartman and one of my favorite short lived shows The Powers That Be.
Pitooey 01-30-2006, 09:29 AM Aaron Spelling. I like all his dramatic series. Dynasty, Knots landing, 90210 etc.
USTVFanFromUK 01-30-2006, 09:32 AM Aaron Spelling. I like all his dramatic series. Dynasty, Knots landing, 90210 etc.
Aaron Spelling didn't create Knots Landing, that was David Jacobs.
Buffyboy323 01-30-2006, 10:09 AM Sitcoms:
Thomas Miller and Robert Boyett. They created such shows as Full House, Bosom Buddies, Perfect Strangers, My Two Dads, Family Matters, Step By Step and Two Of A Kind.
Norman Lear of course.
My favorite DRAMA Creator is probably J.J Abbrams: Alias, Felicity, and LOST.
These are also very good:
Aaron Spelling: Beverly Hills 90210, Charmed, 7th Heaven, Charlies Angel's, Savannah, Melrose Place, Starsky and Hutch, and many others. (I like his 90s-Modern Shows)
Michael Crichton and John Wells: ER and Third Watch [Two Of The Best shows in History-IMO; also The West Wing]
J
oss Whedon: Buffy and angel
Joe Davola, Mike Tollin, and Brian Robbins: Smallville, Birds Of Prey, What I Like About You, and One Tree Hill.

Michael Jacobs does have some great shows...You Can't forget "Dinosaurs". You can never forget that. LOL
Brian Damage 01-30-2006, 11:00 AM James Burrows
Dean Winchester 01-30-2006, 01:08 PM even though I am not into AITF and the sort, I wouldn't hesitate to go for Norman Lear... remember, he is somehow linked to One Day At A Time, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts Of Life and the sort.... some of my favorite sitcoms from the late 70's and 1980's.
Susan Harris was great too if only for Soap and The Golden Girls
gilligan fanatic 01-30-2006, 01:29 PM Sherwood Schwartz
ky24943 01-30-2006, 01:33 PM Matt Williams he co-created Home Improvement and created Roseanne

Susan Harris
GeorgiaboyJeff! 02-09-2006, 03:29 PM Norman Lear because he created some of the most Controversial sitcoms & he opened alot of doors. I think he was the first sitcom writer to touch issues nobody would talk about during the 70's.. He did this with shows like All In The Family & Good Times.
Mrgman 02-21-2006, 08:16 PM Miller/boyett
tanquant 02-22-2006, 04:52 PM :notworthy definetly Norman Lear. Where would we be without the great sitcoms he created?

Dean Winchester 11-23-2007, 05:12 AM surprised nobody has listed Larry David. Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm were both sitcoms unlike ever seen before
comedyfreak 11-23-2007, 06:56 AM Maybe because they are not really classics yet. I can't stand Larry David, he seems so full of himself.
waichingliu81 11-23-2007, 02:47 PM probably james burrows

Ant-Lox 11-24-2007, 03:39 AM The guys behing Taxi, Wings, Cheers and Frasier. It's a cool little universe they created.
tv star collector 11-24-2007, 09:26 AM Limiting the choice to just sitcoms, I can't narrow it down to just one. So,
by decade:
1950s: Irving Brecher (LIFE OF RILEY, PEOPLE'S CHOICE)
1960s: Paul Henning (BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, PETTICOAT JUNCTION, etc.)
1970s: Norman Lear (ALL IN THE FAMILY, SANFORD & SON, etc.)
For the last three decades, I'm going to list my choices for drama:
1980s: Michael Landon (HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN)
1990s: Tie: Chris Carter (X-FILES), Aaron Spelling (90210, CHARMED)
2000s: Joss Whedon (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, FIREFLY)

Susan Harris- The Golden Girls, Soap, Benson.
Susan Harris also created Empty Nest, if I'm not mistaken. I believe the other Sidney Sheldon show you are thinking of is Nancy, which aired briefly in 1970.
