Brian Damage 01-16-2006, 12:58 PM My friend at work has been dating this girl for over a year. He constantly says that he thinks this girl is the nicest women he has ever met, but they don't have a lot in common. He also says that there is something lacking in the bedroom. I asked why does he stay with her and his answer to me was that he wants to stick it out to see if he develops strong feelings for her. He also says a main reason why he sticks with her is because when they first started dating, she was there for him when his aunt died. He says that he'llnever forget that. Is that a legitimate reason to stay with someone? I feel if you don't have strong feelings for someone after a year, you probably won't get them at all. He constantly complains about her text messaging him with cutesy little love messages. Although, I think he does that to show off.
Courtnee 01-16-2006, 01:34 PM I agree with you. If you don't have feelings for someone after a year, it's gone to hell.

agreed.
TheGreatPretender 01-16-2006, 02:28 PM He's most likely staying with her out of guilt.

or he's afraid to be single... or just waiting til something better comes along, which really isn't very fair to the girl at all.
Seinatra 01-16-2006, 04:41 PM Your right Brian, if its not great at the 1 year point, forget about it and just be friends.
Ireneparalegal 01-16-2006, 10:20 PM He's most likely staying with her out of guilt.
Bingo!!!!!!! agreed.!!!!!!!! right on!!!!!!!!
Mr. Stefani 01-16-2006, 10:28 PM insecure, afraid of being alone. and or guilt. take your pick.
dawsongirl 01-16-2006, 10:30 PM Yeah, a year seems long enough to find out if you like someone more than just friends. If he thinks she's super nice though, they could just be friends.
EmoJoe 01-16-2006, 10:33 PM I agree with you. If you don't have feelings for someone after a year, it's gone to hell.
yeah.
Janice 01-18-2006, 01:35 AM It sounds like your friend is with her for the wrong reasons. He may like and respect her a great deal, but if he's not in love with her by now, I don't see it happening.
I think he would be doing himself and her a favor by letting go and possibly salvaging the friendship.
She sounds like a nice person who deserves to be adored and have her partner head over heels in love with her. Everyone deserves that.

I agree with that, and from the sounds of your co-worker, he can't or doesn't really want to give that kind of adoration to her.

Awww....that's a sweet sentiment. :)
MsOrange 01-18-2006, 09:11 AM i agree w/ al of the above
Brian Damage 01-18-2006, 11:46 AM Everyone at work is perplexed as why he is with this girl. This past weekend was his 1 year anniversary with the girl. He complained that he went out of his way to give her a romantic evening and all she did was buy him flowers. He said he is a guy and shouldn't have gotten flowers. He also complained that it looked like the flowers weren't even from a florist, but from a supermarket. He also got upset when his grandmother invited her over for Christmas dinner without asking him first.
He also is attracted to a traffic reporter at work. He says all the time that if there was an opportunity with that woman, he would jump at the chance. He constantly says that he really thinks his girlfriend is a sweet and nice person, but doesn't have a heck of a lot in common with her.
MsOrange 01-18-2006, 11:50 AM he needs to end it... she doesn't deserve to be strung along like that

So he would repay her kind and sweet nature by dumping her for an upgrade?
All the reasons he gives for sticking with her are out the window when he says that.
It seems he is trying to avoid hurting this nice and sweet girl by not breaking up with her UNTIL he gets another woman, then it seems he is ok with hurting her.
He is not doing her any favors, and to tell you the truth all he is doing is keeping his own confidence and needs in check.

 Sorry, but that makes him sound like an ass anyway. I only want florist flowers. :snob: Guys don't get flowers. :snob:
Ugh. She doesn't need him.
