In my honest opinion, if Fred Berry (Rerun) hadn't been so egotistical in making the real open statement, "I AM the true star of THIS whole show and always HAVE been" (which, of course, wasn't true by a long shot), and also putting himself above everyone else, maybe something could have been done by the casting crew in order to make the show itself last for at least a couple more episodes...?

And that's why the show started to go downhill. Viewers get use to seeing a certain type of scenery when they watch a show. And that's why most shows don't work once the characters move to a different location. And getting rid of great characters don't help a show either.

I don't think the show went downhill. It is is direct relation to the characters..they were getting older. So, as the actors aged and matriculated through the educational system the writers incorporated that through the show. They may not have done the best job, but I love season 3, season 2 is awkward, but I truly love one and three. As for Mable, even though she was not seen much, we still need her, she was the anchor that brought reality into all characters.

In a show you need a balance...so that multiple storylines/reactions can be interpreted by the characters.

The show ran out gas when we were supposed to believe that somebody like Rerun secured a job with ABC Studios, and Dwayne wanted a lifetime career selling peanuts in the stadium.

Big and little Earl were annoying and Raj should have never moved out. The only episode I really like on the 3rd season is "The Thomas Treasure" where they rip apart the house looking for money. Its so ridiculous that its like a train wreck, you cant help but to watch.

Little Earl was annoying like hell. Not only was his voice grating but I got sick of seeing him hit on Dee in every scene he was in. Looks like they was trying to create a kid version of Tom and Helen Willis. LOL. Season 3 of What’s Happening would’ve been so better without “Little Earl”.

The ratings went down because the show got so stupid. The show got stupid because the character who could put Raj and Dee in their place was gone. That void brought stupid characters Big and Little Earl, etc. The whole set up of the show changed season 3 which destroyed ratings.

What's Happening!! had weathered a lot of changes, but the one change it couldn't survive was a wedge being driven between the three central characters--and that's where things were headed when ABC decided to cut its losses.
