we saw "Big Earl" and Little Earl" in the soda shop-lol That did it for me. That proved the show was over with a capital O. Little earl and his father should have only been seen AT Raj;s Apt and that's it.

View Full Version : You knew this show had definitely ran out of gas and was running on 4 flat tires when TVFactFan 01-09-2006, 04:50 PM we saw "Big Earl" and Little Earl" in the soda shop-lol That did it for me. CindyRoxiesLair2006 01-14-2006, 08:31 PM And besides the introduction/casting of Big/Little Earl in the last season of WH, the show began to dwindle mainly b/c of a variety of behind-the-scenes disputes among the main cast members... In my honest opinion, if Fred Berry (Rerun) hadn't been so egotistical in making the real open statement, "I AM the true star of THIS whole show and always HAVE been" (which, of course, wasn't true by a long shot), and also putting himself above everyone else, maybe something could have been done by the casting crew in order to make the show itself last for at least a couple more episodes...? Who KNOWS...Anyways, WH was good while it lasted.  TVFactFan 01-14-2006, 08:38 PM And besides the introduction/casting of Big/Little Earl in the last season of WH, the show began to dwindle mainly b/c of a variety of behind-the-scenes disputes among the main cast members... What I'm saying is that, when Raj moved away from home the show went downhill, it wasn't the same show anymore. Mabel was gone and Shirley took the role as the mom on the show, Not a good move. Dee being seen period made the show dull. The only characters that should have been seen is Shirley Raj Dwayne Rerun Rob Dwaynew 01-15-2006, 11:38 PM I think he was the star of WH. Without him the show was not as watchable which is why I was too crazy about WHN when he left the show I don't think the show went downhill. It is is direct relation to the characters..they were getting older. So, as the actors aged and matriculated through the educational system the writers incorporated that through the show. They may not have done the best job, but I love season 3, season 2 is awkward, but I truly love one and three. As for Mable, even though she was not seen much, we still need her, she was the anchor that brought reality into all characters. Dwaynew 01-15-2006, 11:40 PM Dee being seen period made the show dull. That was probably his most popular trademark. He is probably buried in it....unless if it was sold awhile back on Ebay. MIKEPR 11-23-2019, 09:09 PM Don't think Mabel King leaving had anything to do with it. Raj and his friend were the main focus. BestTVever 02-01-2021, 08:01 AM The show jumped the shark when Mabel left. The show could have lasted longer with more Mabel. She grounded the show. It just got so stupid when Mabel left. Plus Dee was older and no longer a smart a**. Big and little Earl were annoying and Raj should have never moved out. The only episode I really like on the 3rd season is "The Thomas Treasure" where they rip apart the house looking for money. Its so ridiculous that its like a train wreck, you cant help but to watch. TVLegend 02-01-2021, 06:35 PM Little Earl was annoying like hell. Not only was his voice grating but I got sick of seeing him hit on Dee in every scene he was in. Looks like they was trying to create a kid version of Tom and Helen Willis. LOL. Season 3 of What’s Happening would’ve been so better without “Little Earl”. BestTVever 03-29-2021, 06:13 AM Roger & his friends were the main characters and I doubt her departure had anything to do with the ratings going down. The ratings went down because the show got so stupid. The show got stupid because the character who could put Raj and Dee in their place was gone. That void brought stupid characters Big and Little Earl, etc. The whole set up of the show changed season 3 which destroyed ratings. I never thought the mother was needed especially since she had small screen time from the start BestTVever 04-01-2021, 07:17 AM I never thought the mother was needed especially since she had small screen time from the start Yes even the actors agreed in post show interviews that Mabel should have been given more air time. She grounded the show from too much stupidity. She was an honest working single mom. The few episodes that focused on her were quite good like when she goes to night school and gets a date and the Xmas episode. When you remove such a pillar from a show that has nothing but fat jokes then all you get is fat jokes and its stale after awhile. But I liked her again in What's Happening Now. I had such an enormous crush on Dwayne in every season of WH and also every season of What's Happening Now. hatwink 01-11-2023, 06:56 PM When Dwayne wore that dress in season 3. JonathanM 09-05-2023, 05:55 AM I'd say the writing was on the wall when Fred Berry began to drop out of episodes. I know that most fans hate the third season, but I thought its first half worked reasonably well--and there were episodes I really enjoyed, like "Positive Identification" (the Christmas episode, which featured a great performance by guest star Stu Gilliam). But the writing, already shaky, underwent a steep decline in the second half of that final season, and it became more and more obvious that the show had run its course. What's Happening!! had weathered a lot of changes, but the one change it couldn't survive was a wedge being driven between the three central characters--and that's where things were headed when ABC decided to cut its losses. All true To quote Jimmy Walker from Good Times, "why is everyone messing with the goose that is laying golden eggs" He said something like that once when there was all this drama on the set. He was like....we have a hit show, why is everyone so angry. Lets enjoy it and do our best. |
