View Full Version : I hate rudeness!
Brian Damage 01-08-2006, 12:49 PM If I have one pet peeve, it is rudeness from people. At work, I have to deal with alot of network affilliates that are completely rude and nasty on the phone. You can't talk back to them, because it is my job, but man do I hate that. Also, before Christmas, I gave everybody on my shift a Christmas card with a lottery scratch off ticket inside of it. I gave everybody one, even some people that I hardly talk to. One girl I gave a card to, never even said thank you. She never even acknowledged that she got one, and I know for a fact that she did get it. What the heck is that? I wasn't expecting a parade or champagne opened in my honor for doing it, just a simple THANK YOU. I think it is the rudest thing in the world to give from your heart and not get a Thank You in return. How are these people raised? When I was growing up, I was taught to always say please and thank you.
EmoJoe 01-08-2006, 12:56 PM Yeah thats kinda rude.
Penny Lane 01-08-2006, 01:05 PM I am a firm believer in sending thsnk-you notes. I think that this practice has kind of gone by the wayside. But if not a note, at least a verbal acknowledgement or thank you is in order. I understand your frustration Brian!
Janice 01-08-2006, 01:18 PM That's too bad Brian. I find ungratefulness is everywhere. I'm a generous person by nature, and all my life I've been a giver.
My niece turned 23 on December 7th. I sent her a beautiful card with a $100 check in it. Christmas week, I did the same thing. She called me on Christmas and thanked me, but I would have liked a call when she got her birthday gift three weeks before.
I recently gave someone a nice gift and wasn't thanked at all. It astonishes me as to what these people are thinking. Actually, they're not thinking at all.
I sent my husband's boss a thank-you card for his Christmas bonus. My husband told me not to bother because his boss was thanking him for a job well done. I told him that to not thank someone for a $700 bonus would be rude. I bought the card, wrote a little note inside and sent it.
Jonathan 01-08-2006, 01:32 PM Rudeness is too common these days.

That is just horrible Janice. That is more than just rude, it is selfish and arrogant. It sounds like that person is a spoiled brat and a pompous ass! I presume people like that have horrible parents that probably spoiled their kids and never taught them a single manner. That's how I equate the girl at work. She was probably never told "no" in her entire life. I have no respect for people like that. You should have rescinded your gift. lol
Janice 01-08-2006, 02:00 PM Another thing that bothers me are e:cards. I love getting them from my online friends, or from people in real life to tell me that they're just thinking of me....or even for small holidays, like Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day.
I've had people in my real life send me online birthday cards. I know it's the thought that counts, but it bugs me. I always make the effort to send a card. You can buy cards in most grocery stores.
Brian Damage 01-08-2006, 02:07 PM My parents could probably buy Hallmark with all the money they have, yet one my wedding Anniversary came up, not even a phone call. This past Christmas Eve, we finally recieved a 50 dollar gift card to a steak house saying, "Happy Anniversary" I swear, I think I was switched at birth.
Courtnee 01-08-2006, 03:50 PM yeah I agree with you.
Stuff like that happens to me all the time
PERFECT EXAMPLE:
Friday i overheard someone say they didn't have a pencil. I had a ton of them in my bag so I gave one to her. No thank you once so ever she just looked at me like i was crazy. I should have taken it back.
I always try to make an effort to say please and thank you. Ask Karen. I give her huge thanks (karenfosterappritationthreadcoff) all the time for her blends and avatars she makes for me
KAren Pwns you
Brent88 01-08-2006, 04:06 PM Who do you work for Brian?
TheGreatPretender 01-08-2006, 04:09 PM That is rude but I guess that is the world : a place full of *******s. Sorry she didn't say thank you to you. :(
Brian Damage 01-08-2006, 04:09 PM I am a producer for Westwood one and Infinity Broadcasting

Thanks and you're welcome! :D
That really sucks Brian, but I know what you mean. I deal a lot with those kind of people at my movie theater. That's the worst part of my job. I really don't like it when I have to act nice and the other people just have no matters. ohno:
Fonzarelli 01-08-2006, 10:01 PM I wasn't expecting a parade or champagne opened in my honor for doing it
You weren't? I *always* expect that. If it doesn't happen, I'm offended. It's rude.

ON BEHALF OF THOSE MORONS WHO DIDN'T THANK U OR ACKNOWLEDGE YOU: :thanks: :thanks:
And BTW, thank you for your friendship Brian!!!!
Ireneparalegal 01-08-2006, 10:21 PM I gave my insurance agent a ten dollar gift card and he WAS SHOCKED! he helps me with my stupid insurance questions and i feel like i bug him. He was very thankful and gave me a great big bear hug.:D
Ireneparalegal 01-08-2006, 10:22 PM aww, that was really sweet of you to say, Irene! You're an angel. :D
awwww shucks!!!
Jrnygrl 01-09-2006, 12:38 AM I agree with you. I also was raised to be polite.
I work in the same situation. Every morning I say good morning, and people act like I said something offensive to them, and I never get a good morning back. As I was leaving one day, I wished two people who were standing in the hall Merry Christmas, and again they looked at me like I had murdered someone. Or if you give someone a smile, they leer back at you with a frown. I also find it rude for people to walk into a room and only acknowledge certain people, instead of saying hello to everyone.
Face it we live in a world of rude people.:(
Polniaczek033 01-09-2006, 12:56 AM wow.
brian, please start fighting people.
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 01-09-2006, 02:12 AM Gah, I know how you feel. Even if someone isn't being rude to me, I hate to see it happen around me. I mean, good gosh, how hard is it to say "Thank You" to someone? What does that take, like 2 seconds? I always feel like a b**** if I don't say thank you or at least try to be nice to someone who's being nice to me. I honestly don't understand how people can be rude like that and have no quilty feelings about it whatsoever.
dawsongirl 01-09-2006, 02:16 AM I think it is the rudest thing in the world to give from your heart and not get a Thank You in return.
I was best friends with this girl since 1st grade. Well, a couple years ago, she got married and she invited me and my parents to her wedding. Since she'd beeen a good friend of mine for so long, my parents bought her one of the most expensive things on her registry list. She never even sent a thank you...AFTER HER WEDDING. Man, I've gotten thank yous for way less than that. We were a bit put off by that. I mean, maybe it's just me, but that takes balls to not send thank you cards out after your wedding. Like we all wanted to go watch her marry that jerk she married. She apparently took his name and his incredibly rude nature (I don't think the loser ever said one word to me).
Heck, I get irritated at work when someone asks me for directions, or I offer them, and then they just walk away without a smile or anything. I could have just stared at them and told them to go find it themselves. Argh.

Fonzarelli 01-09-2006, 02:05 PM One time I was in the train and it was literally packed! People had to stand in the aisle, all seats were taken. I see a girl coming in, asking a man (I guess he was in his 30's) if he would please remove his bag from the chair next to him, so she could sit down...
Imagine this:
The jerk said 'no'! :eek2:
Of course then I offered her my seat. But really, since when do people *not* remove their *bags* from a chair in a *packed* train when a *girl* asks for it?
Parakeet03 01-09-2006, 06:08 PM Rude people are everywhere. I deal with them a lot in my school. They'll like walk into u in the hall and then suck their teeth like it was my fault when they were the one who pushed u out of the way. People can be really rude, it gets me mad but I try not to let it bother me but its hard not to. I usually go off cursing.
MissZero 01-09-2006, 06:24 PM If you really give from your heart you shouldn't expect a thank you in return....
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 01-09-2006, 10:33 PM The jerk said 'no'!
Oh my gah! She should have slapped him. He would have deserved it.

LOL I wasn't expecting a thank you, but it would've been nice to get one. It wasn't like I was looking for a pat on the back, but a simple acknowledgement that she recieved it. I didn't even get that. If you send somebody a gift, wouldn't you like to know that they got it at least? Maybe you are different, or maybe you just don't give a damn, but it is polite to say thank you. This was a girl that I hardly ever spoke to or saw, but I gave anyway. The point is, if you get something from someone, be polite and say THANK YOU.

I think gratitude comes from the heart too.
At the very least, a person should acknowledge a gift.

i agree. It's hard to "give from the heart" when you know your giving tgo someone who isn't very grateful.
Parakeet03 01-10-2006, 07:44 PM I agree that u should have gotten a thank you. Its not that its expected but its just the right thing for them to do. if people dont say thank u, it makes then look stuck up and selfish and especially rude.

It sounds like you were expecting a thank you. Granted, it is rude not to even acknowlede it, but if you really gave something from your heart--like you said you did--you wouldn't be fretting about it. Just remember, not everyone is brought up the same way as you are...

i completely disagree with you, but whatever
Adults, whether they were taught to say "please and thank you" or not, have to learn manners at some point in time.

I second that. My God, how rude it is to not even acknowledge something. Those people are stupid and don't know how to say "Thank You"? One doesn't need to be cultured, rich, etc. to have good manners.
