Now, what do you think will be on the ultimate edition?

Very interesting. Well hopefully they'll throw some old and rare ones on the Ultimate Edition instead of the mainly newer ones like on the previous dvd sets. $129.99 MSRP, wow......must be a lot of disks.

Holy CRAP!!!

The Ultimate Edition is SO mine---unless it repeats everything already included in the previous sets. Why spend $90-100 bucks when you can get the individual sets for 19.99?

The "Best Of" set seems interesting, but unless it covers 1988-93, it's not really a "best of" set. I'm sure it'll have Resurrection Mary, the Cokeville Wyoming School Bomb Miracle, and the Exploding Church on it.

But again, I'm only speculating.

I honestly thought they would not release any more sets, but this is one time I am GLAD to be wrong!! I bet the originals started selling better when they dropped the price (they started around $50, now Best Buy and DeepdiscountDvd have them for under $20)--which led to this.

BRAVO! Bring on the specs!

This is great news! Im very curious also about how these sets are going to turn out and what segments will be included, I just hope that previous segments that were included on the 6 sets won't be present on the new discs because i wouldnt want to pay for something i already have.
Can't wait to hear more about this!! :)

Will the Ultimate Edition be all of the previous sets combined or will this be all new episodes and hopefully some pre-stack episodes? The sets must have sold well for them to release more sets.

Robbie, I'm hoping and praying that the ultimate edition will be segments that have not been released yet. I mean, whats the point of rushing out to buy a set that will retail for around $100, if it contained the previous releases that now only cost around $20. Just keep your fingers crossed, I know I am! :D

From what I know about the UM boxed sets, I don't think they sold very well, but I do think that the die-hard UM fans have spoken and stated that they wanted more of everything. (I don't know about you guys, but I was very disappointed by the Bizarre Murders DVD set.) It's my guess that even though the boxed sets didn't sell very well, they listened to the fans and are releasing the Ultimate Edition and "Best of" set because of negative fan feedback.

Great! I am rather optimistic about this. I had e-mailed FLM and while they said that they had no future plans to release other sets, the possibility was always there. I guess we can be happy knowing that our wishes are being fullfilled. All it takes is patience and persistance, as fans must have kept up with the requests for more.

Anyway I am optimistic b/c I feel that this woll not included any stuff from the sets that have already been published. Why would they merely rehash everything that they have put out already? I think that this set will included unreleased stories from topics already covered that still could be covere more(UFO's and ghosts don't really have any other stories to put out on DVD, but there are plenty of bizzare murders that could have been on the set that were not) as well as stories from topics not yet put into catagorized sets like fugitives and missing persons. If the stories from the previous boxsets are not included on this collection set, that people who want the stories from the current 6 sets will wish to go out and buy them ASAP, so that could increase the sales. To have it all you must buy it all.

Thanks for the news, a great way to kick off the new year.
Hope your 2005 was great.

That's great news - considering I emailed First Look back in August regarding the release of subsequent UM volumes and they wrote back with:

Thanks very much for your interest in Unsolved Mysteries. Unfortunately, we have no plans at the moment to release any future volumes of Unsolved Mysteries. While the possibility still remains, it is not a part of our current or immediate future plans.

I hope I’ve answered your question, and thanks again.

- so perhaps our interest was enough to convince them otherwise!

Some of the stories I hope they include:

Tami Leppert's dissappearance
Tracy Kirkpatrick's Murder
Tina Resch's telekinesis
L'enfant stalks a former Beuruit prisoner
Bomb nearly kills a Navy captain's wife but was maybe intended for him
Man jumps onto a moving airplane and falls from it at peak altitude

Yes it has been solved but it is still bizarre. While the man has been identified, the secondary mystery of why he would attempt such an insane stunt is still unsolved. Maybe he was involved with shady activities and such individuals, and he was running from them. Or maybe he was wanted and was trying to elude cops. Perhaps the update chose to withold such info since all the show really wanted was his identity. Why else would he go to such desparate lenghts for a plane ride?

crystaldawn
01-10-2006, 12:19 PM
His name was Brian Duecker. He had been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. I believe his plane ride was a bizarre suicide as they found his will back where he lived and he had written it the day he left. Here is an interesting article about him:

This is on the face of it great news...but i have to say i'm very sceptical...

Given that First Look only very recently said they had no plans for further sets, i find it hard to believe that they've been putting in the long hours compiling a brand new "Ultimate edition" containing all the segments that were missing from the 6 boxsets...surely it's far more likely that this will simply be a compliation of the 6 sets already on offer for those who havent bought them? (at a slight discount)

I'd LOVE to be proved wrong of course, but why would they tell fans that they had no plans to release fresh sets and then suddenly come up with what would be such a fantastic set for the die-hards?...I'm going to need alot of convincing...

I wonder if the mega edition will be nearly 50% cheaper after a few months like the current box sets are. It seems like i just saw them at Best Buy with $45 price tags on them, when they are down to about $20 now.

What did you mean by "recently". Just how long ago did you contact First Look? I only ask because there may be an explanation to what you described.

Maybe the person who replied to you wasn't yet aware of any definite plans for new UM DVDs (not everyone is always aware of the same things). Maybe the company was secretly studying the possibility of issuing more DVDs, but didn't want such information to leaked to anyone outside the company until their plans for new DVDs were more definite and official.

Besides, "no plans" doesn't always mean exactly that. Sometimes it can mean there are "officially no plans" or "no definite plans."

Just a thought or two.

studster147
01-11-2006, 03:43 PM
You may be right, and i hope you ARE right, but i'm willing to bet you now that the "new" sets will be-in the case of the Ultmate edition-simply the 6 existing sets bundled into one box at a lower price than buying them individually, and in the case of the "Best of" set, a highlights package of the same 6 boxsets we all already own..i have no hard facts to back this theory up, but i'd be surprised if we see any new material in March...

DavisDVD.com reports...

Here's something really cool for all of us armchair detectives:
First Look Media will release Unsolved Mysteries: The Ultimate Collection on March 21st. If you've held of buying these compliation discs, this is going to be your best bet because it will include all six Unsolved Mysteries boxed sets (Bizarre Murders,Ghosts,Miracles,Psychics,Strange Legends, and UFOs) plus a bonus "Treasures" disc all housed in a handsome treasure chest-style box. That's twenty-five discs and nearly 39 hours of mysteries for a retail of $129.98

Well, cancel that. In a way I'm glad. I just saved 90-130 bucks.

I think it's a new way to try and sell off the remaining stock of individual releases. I'd better buy the remaining individual sets now, because I bet they won't be available by themselves for much longer.

This is First Look's attempt at what I like to call the "Malibu Stacy" marketing strategy. There was an episode of The Simpsons where Lisa creates her own doll to go against Malibu Stacy, only to be destroyed when Malibu Stacy is re-released, with a NEW HAT!!!##%!! First Look is hoping people will go "Wow, what an awesome treasure chest!" and snatch this up. It might work--really, have you ever seen the individual sets prominently displayed anywhere? This set will jump off the shelf.

Of course, the price is outrageous for anyone who isn't a die-hard fan, so I think it will sell incredibly poorly.

It IS a awesome looking treasure chest, though.

I guess you could sell your existing sets and buy this one, but is it really worth the effort for a snazy box? I do wonder what the "Treasures" disc contains, though. Probably "Resurrection Mary", The Cokeville Wyoming miracle school bombing, and the exploding church stories, because we haven't seen them enough, have we?

I guess we can conclude the "Best of" set will just be a re-hash as well, right?

JimmyHendricks
01-12-2006, 01:31 AM
I just thought of something:

When the Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended version) was released, there was an option to buy a box to put all three volumes in (which I did). All you had to do was send in 6 bucks or so and perhaps a proof of purchase and you got the box a few weeks later.

I think First Look should offer just the treasure chest box as a stand alone for all of us die-hards who bought the sets individually to put our sets in. It's only fair. I think the "treasures" disc should be available as well, but I doubt that will happen, since that's the only incentive for buying the set.

Anyone else agree?

studster147
01-12-2006, 05:59 AM
I think this new set is a real kick in the teeth for die-hard fans, most of which will have bought the 6 sets already...are they seriously expecting us to shell out for them again just to get a fancy box and one bonus disc?

The least they could do is make the bonus disc available on its own....

I'm pissed off with First Look!

The Best Of Unsolved Mysteries includes 3 DVD discs with 36 of the best segments, as chosen by the series creators/producers, including 5 new ghost stories.

JimmyHendricks
01-15-2006, 01:32 AM
NEW Stories? Wouldn't that mean that Robert Stack wouldn't be on them, since he's well, dead? Hmmm.....I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If the segments are being picked by the creators, I'm sure we'll get the usual ones that are played to death on Lifetime. I hope not, but I'm not holding out for anything great.

Okay the "Ultimate Collection" will include all 6 that have already been release Plus a NEW one called "Treasures"! It comes in a little chest where you can put all of them in!! I think they should have just made "Treasures", in stead of re-releasing the rest of them!! Hopefully they'll make more DVDs of "Unsloved Mysteries"!! Now on to "The Best Of"! The Best Of is on 3 DVDs, and it includes 36 segments chosen by the creators of the show!! Also their will be 5 *NEW* Ghost Stories!! Also Their will be Audio Commentary by the Director/Creator/!!!!!! This will be a GREAT add to the collection!! Also it's in Leather Bound packing(the box!!) I can't wait for this to come out!!! If you wanna read more go to tvshowsondvd.com!!I Think It's Really COOL that they will have 5 NEW epsiodeS!! They must have had some Epsiodes that they never aired, that they are putting on DVD!!

I wish that I could share in GoldenGirlsFan92's confidence, but I have a feeling that the "Best of UM" DVD's will just have six segments picked from each of the six boxed sets, with the additional 5 ghost segments.

It would be SO cool if I were wrong, though.

GoldenGirlsFan92
01-16-2006, 07:15 PM
It would stink if they did that, but I really don't think that they'll do that!! well, at least I HOPE that they don't do that!! I REALLY don't think that they'll do that, and if i'm wrong SORRY!!

...and hope that someone at First Look has the common sense (and empathy of a long-time devoted UM fan) to not copy stories from the six sets already ready released TWICE and paste them to the Best Of' collection.

And with regards to a treasure DVD set I don't think there were enough treasure stories on UM to fill a whole set. This story catagory was a rare one and most likely all UM treasure segment's could fit on one disc.

GoldenGirlsFan92
01-17-2006, 08:37 AM
I got a Que.! On the UM DVDS do they just stick with one theme songs or do they play a varity of the theme songs ??? Because you know how they had a couple of them songs through the years! Thanks!

MetalHybrid
01-19-2006, 03:42 AM
Before the the first segment of each disc, as well as after the last one of each, they play the theme from the lifetime era. But before each segment comes the episode title. during which the them music will vary. So they play a variety.

This is great news. I just hope that the info from amazon is accurate (from First Look info I assume). Sometimes these things can be inaccurate. But from my perspective, it certainly gives more hope about the content of these discs. At least if its right that there are 14 new stories not on dvd before, and that we'll actually be able to still obtain the Treasures segments, the new ghost stories. That is still 2 more stories we don't know about. And I pray that the others aren't rehashes. But still wouldn't it most likely be? That still leaves 22 stories that could be rehashes. Lets hope that they make those ones more worth it, by giving commetary on some the stories that didn't have commentary before, and hopefully some of the 14 new ones have commentary. Or maybe the its mostly new? That be 26 stories are new to dvd. We still don't know what it means. The total amount of "best of" stories was 36 according to tvshowsondvd.com. Either its 14 new leaving 22 old, or 26 new and leaving 10 old. We need more info! I really hope its the latter count so it'd more worth the purchase.

The Best of doesn't sound encouraging. Look at CD Univereses listing:

We've taken the best episodes that Unsolved Mysteries has to offer, from GHOSTS, BIZARRE MURDERS, UFO's and more, and placed them all in a special boxed set that also includes a fourth disc of HIDDEN TREASURE episodes never before released on DVD.

Join Unsolved Mysteries' host, Robert Stack, as he takes you on a journey through the most amazing, horrifying, and unbelievable stories you'll ever hear. Then get ready embark on a quest to find the adventurer's ultimate prize: Hidden Treasures.

We get Treasures, but it really sounds lik a rehash of the 6 sets' stories. What is the disc total? I thought it was 3, this one says 4. Where do the "new ghost stories" apply to? The listing for the Ultimate set from CDU is the same detail listing off of Amazon. What're are we to believe?
Ain't this familiar for the Ultimate set listing?

The news that its a re-hash is no great surprise...it's the "new stories" that remain a mystery....5 new ghost stories..fair enough, 7 treasures stories..ok, but then "14 new stories", separately listed?

when i went to school, 7 plus 5 equalled 12, so are there 2 "new" non ghost or treasures stories, or 14 "new" ones or (most likely in my view) is the infomation just plain wrong.....

Does anyone know what segments are on the ULTIMATE UM DVD Set?

I believe Unsolved Mysteries: The Ultimate Collection is made up of the six previously-released box sets (UFOs, Ghosts, Miracles, Psychics, Bizarre murders and Legends) plus the bonus Treasures and Ghosts disc.

Some of the segments on the Treasures and Ghosts disc are:

Haunting on 37th Street-about a house that has apparitions in Vancouver, WA

Ghosthunters-The Julia Staab haunting at a hotel in New Mexico.

Haunted Mansion-About a castle-like estate in New Jersey haunted by it's original owner. Some say he returns again and again to finish unfisished business.

Marcos' Buddha-about a Filipino treasure hunter who found a Buddha then underwent torture after refusing to say it was his Buddha the Filipino government took so that the Buddha would become Government property. The Buddha was made of gold and had several handfuls of diamonds inside.
His life was forever altered by the find (and seize) of the Buddha.

Lost Dutchman's Mine-in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona there is said to be buried treasure, prospected by a miner decades ago.

Dutch Shultz' Treasure-Gangster and wiseguy Dutch Shultz was said to have marked the tree with an 'X' in regards to where he buried his jewels and gold. North of New York City. To this day, people still wonder whether the treasure is there.

If the details above are a little sketchy, someone please feel free to correct me as I am typing this on a computer away from my home.

That's the 'just' of it, though.

I could always be wrong tho.....

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

greatgarrett2

The first season of Unsolved Mysteries was 1988-1989. I wish they could put these on Dvd by the season. They should make more Dvd's on missing persons, unexplained deaths, fugitives, murders,etc... If anyone ever finds out that this is going to happen please PM me.

I am sure someone has noticed this, but whether it has been mentioned or not, the Best of DVD has a couple mistakes. The first mistake I noticed is that on on of the discs, the cover says that the Sarah Powell-home invasion case is on there. But when I went to watch it, the Teracita Bassa-voice from the grave case was on there in place of the invasion one. Another is probably more important. The films are cut. The Lost Dutchman's Mine segment does not even mention or show the Walt Gastler scene. This is definitely dissapointing on that part, although I enjoyed the DVD overall.
