Yes he made a down payment, but according to the contract he was binded to it, regardless. Which is why he was going to tell the salesman that they couldn't keep the books. Then the salesman "lied" abt calling his boss and pretending that he couldn't give back the money or tear up the contract. Had the phone not been out of order, the con would have worked because no one would be standing there watching him dial a phone that is out of order.
Still, for a family that lives day by day, making ends meet, it was foolish of him to sign on for something like that without reading it first, or asking alot more questions.

Blind or not, if I don't have the money I just don;t have it. I'm not going to help someone help out if my money situation is tight just because they are handicap. So I would have said-" I wish I could help you out but we just can't afford it right now"

I would han't given the man my last 5 dollars either. But he felt for the man. And if James would have told him, "Sorry I can't afford it right now" Then there wouldn't have been a show LOL. We all know that in real life no one would give up their last dollar to some stranger, but in the fictional life they had to.

I agree that it was out of character for James not to read (and re-read) the contract before signing - even after learning the salesman was blind!! Just like it didn't make sense for James to instantly forgive Leroy Jackson for losing his $250. :lol:
