Wha'?? Gotta disagree. I ain't saying it's a piece of art by any means, but man, there've been Far cheesier songs than that. And actually, that was a huge pop hit. Silly, but huge.

When I think cheese, I think tunes like "Feelings".

Some funny choices up there. DEFinitely Rico Suave....
I'm thinking a couple of things:

-the idea of what cheesy *is* probably changes w/ the times

-there're 2 kinds of cheese: Lousy cheesy (the kind where you wanna switch the radio dial) & fun cheesy- where you Know it's bad, but there's something catchy & infectious about it.

Barbie Girl or I'm a Barbie Girl by Aqua, either way, was pretty cheesy.

I was *thinking* about listing that one, but then I thought it's more a parody song. I think the writers (who ever they were) were trying to poke fun at media stereotypes of beauty. So in that sense, (if I'm right, that is) it isn't really cheesy. I think the whole silly look & sound of the song & vid' was very deliberate.

Ok, here are the lyrics. I can see what it means now(I think). You can thank me later!

MacArthur Park
Richard Harris

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

[break]

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why

[extended break]

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh no!!

I think they should be thrown into a deep pit with Honey, watching Bobby grow and Muscrat love, covered with manure ( well, they ARE manure, but still...), and ecased in cement, then after it hardens, dig the whole thing out, put it on the space shuttle and release them on the sun where they will ( hopefully ) burn to ashes, to be heard nevermore!!!

Donna Summer left this lyric out of her 1978 cover.

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

And, the old men played Chinese checkers in her remake. :D

Tony Bennett only sang this lyric when he remade the song.

The Four Tops and Waylon Jennings both covered "MacArthur Park" too, but I never heard either record.

P.S. During the Rodney King riots in LA (where MacArthur Park is), I found myself singing, "MacArthur's Park is burning in the dark. . . ." )

Having My Baby by Paul Anka puke:

Muskrat Love by Captain & Tennille puke: (I DID like Love Will Keep Us Together, though)

All By Myself by Eric Carmen AND Celine Dion puke: I don't care who sings this song -- no matter what, it just sucks.

Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor puke: The lyrics always make me angry...both guys should dump her!!

Wannabe by the Spice Girls puke:

America didn't write it; I don't remember who did.

It was written by Willis Alan Ramsey which no doubt is an assumed named to hide the real moniker of the person responsible for this piece of crap. These have got to be the dumbest lyrics I've ever heard.

Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
Doin' the town and doin' it right
In the evenin'
It's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

How about Yummy, yummy , yummy I got love in my tummy by Ohio Express , 1968. Also by Ohio Express Chewy, Chewy .

But to be honest as corny as it was Chewy, chewy was pretty cool, good music and beat. So 60's sounding. But the lyrics are pretty dumb .

And definitely Muscrat love .

I don't even know why there is such a category. People like whatever they choose to listen to, and they are going to have a reason for liking whatever they choose to listen to.

God bless you always!!!

Honey- Bobby Goldsborough:rolleyes:

Honey is definitely NOT cheesy! And his last name's Goldsboro, not Goldsborough.

We all know there's a lot of them. One for me is Amazed by the country band Lonestar. Richie McDonald's singing is so emotionally overwrought that the song's unlistenable!:thumbsdow

Oops! Sorry about the spelling! Bobby is probably a very nice guy but I detest that song! Back in 1968 I was a Senior in high School and that song was way way overplayed on A M radio.

:eek2: What?!?! Lol just kidding it's your opinon but...still  :p

I honestly don't think there is a cheesiest song in rock n roll there are just too many to name
"Bohemian Rhapsody" may have named "cheesiest" due to the falsetto "Galileo" part. A faux pas in prog rock.
