View Full Version : I got an autographed pic from Valerie Harper :D
PZelda 11-30-2005, 12:59 AM I'm currently after the surviving cast members from Mary Tyler Moore for their autographs...So far, the only other person I have is MTM, and I got an autographed pic from her back in 2003. The second person finally replied to my mail and it came on Friday, while I was away visiting family in Montana. Of course, it was from Valerie Harper. I was too freaking tickled over hearing back from her, because Rhoda is, well, my #1 fave character on MTM. Actually, I REALLY like both MTM and Rhoda...it's hard to decide. Anyway!
I sent Valerie a letter and an index card. They don't HAVE to sign the card I send along, so it's cool with me if they do sign the card. Valerie responded by sending me a very recent color 8x10 of herself AND signing the card I sent along. I loooove it! :biglove: Valerie has really pretty handwriting too. :)
My scanner sucks, Valerie's hair in that pic isn't THAT dark (from the same photo shoot as the one seen on www.valerieharper.com, to give you an idea of how light her hair is now) and hopefully you can make out that Valerie used a brown Sharpie on both the pic and the index card. :)
Kristen 11-30-2005, 02:27 AM Allison, I know I told you in PM's already, but I'm really happy for you. Val's such a sweetheart. :) You should try Betty next (if you haven't already, what w/ her being on Mama's Family too, hehe!). She's also really great about signing for fans.

Mr. Television 11-30-2005, 02:31 AM Awww. That is so nice. Congratulations Allison. :woohoo:

:bonk: Forgot about Betty! I have her too...Thrice, actually ;). I forgot to mention I got her the 1st time in '03 and I wrote to her a month back and just heard from her like two weeks ago. So...I have MTM, Betty and Valerie now. I'm after Cloris, Ed, Georgia and Gavin...I hear Gavin is a toughie but I"m trying anyway. I adore him  I wish I could get Ted Knight's, Nancy Walker's and Lisa Gerritsen's too....but the first two will never happen and Lisa has been out of the spotlight for almost three decades.
Thanks, by the way. :D Still too tickled, hehe. I'm actually a little jealous that you met her TWICE...AND got a hug from her both times. :faint: You go girl! :mango I have met Vicki Lawrence in person twice and have yet to get a hug from her. :(
snl 70s show fan 11-30-2005, 03:28 AM congrats on getting that great autograph allison. by the way if you ever do get a lisa gerritsen autograph please let me know because in all my years as a collector ive never even seen one and i would love to know what her signing habits are like.
PZelda 11-30-2005, 03:38 AM Lisa's will never happen...I know for sure...she has not done anything since Phyllis ended in 1978. It would be nice to have her autograph, but I know that will never happen.

I sometimes can't even believe I hugged her! She is just the sweetest lady. (Have I said that already? Oh well, it's worth repeating, hehe).
Anyway, back on topic. Ed is a pretty good signer. I have him, and Leigh Ann does, too. Cloris is supposed to be good, but I've never written her. Keep us posted on your autographs, Allison!
Edit: I just realized in re-reading this thread, I actually met Valerie THREE times! hehe. And the last time, she remembered me. :D Sorry, I just had to point that out.
Kristen
Leigh Ann 11-30-2005, 05:49 PM I know I've already told you this, but that sure is a good autograph! I hope you hear from Ed, Cloris, and Gavin! :D
PZelda 12-01-2005, 02:06 AM Hehe thanks, Leigh Ann. :D
I'm shooting to find a nice, big picture of Valerie as her Rhoda Morgenstern character so I can print it out or buy it and send it to her to have her sign it. Rhoda rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
snl 70s show fan 12-02-2005, 04:52 PM Lisa's will never happen...I know for sure...she has not done anything since Phyllis ended in 1978. It would be nice to have her autograph, but I know that will never happen.lisa did have a very very small role in the film if lucy fell back in 1996 but outside of that nothing and i have read on at least one website that she dosent even discuss her former acting carrear with friends

That's great! I like my picture better, though. :) I like what he wrote on the index card.
Kristen 01-03-2006, 11:00 PM Allison, please don't take this the wrong way, but I hate you! ;) j/k I have an autograph from Ed, too, but he never wrote that. Congrats!

My letter won him over! :happyface :winkgrin
Kidding. ;) There is another poster here, I don't know if you know him... He goes by the name I Love Carol Burnett! and we are almost always in close competition. He must do a LOT of kissing up in his letters, because celebs send him longer inscriptions than the ones I get. He just recently got Valerie Harper's autograph, and she wrote in a blue sharpie for the pic, and she put a heart after her name, like she always does, but in RED. I was so jealous.
Thank you, by the way!

I'm not too wild about the pic myself, but it's a pretty nice pic. He printed it out on stiff computer paper, hehe. The index card is my fave too. :winkgrin
snl 70s show fan 01-04-2006, 11:35 PM congrats allison that is a great ins. that he wrote on your index card i like the pic too
KennedyDean 01-05-2006, 11:37 PM Where do you find the address to write to them?
PZelda 01-06-2006, 01:59 PM Where do you find the address to write to them?
www.stararchive.com -- but it's a paying site. You need to pay to be a member there.
Tell you what... Why don't you send a private message to a member named I Love Carol Burnett! (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/private.php?do=newpm&u=17151) (the link will take you directly to a page to PM him). Ask him for the website addresses of free sites that you can get addresses from. He will be able to help you out. He does not have a membership at Star Archive yet so he has to use free websites for now. :)

I hadn't realized she had done any acting beyond "Phyllis." As to what she's up to these days, I found the following statement from a Google search:
"Employee of a California-based software company, according to a reader (and reputed former coworker). 'I think she was in the product development department, and I heard that she did not like to discuss her showbiz past.'"
It's kind of sad to me that she wants to completely put her past behind her when it's such a glorious past. But that's certainly her choice, to move on. And it's probably perfectly understandable for her not to want to go through life being defined only by what she did in her childhood. I mean, can you imagine if you were constantly running into strangers who wanted to talk to you about something you used to do in fourth grade? I'm sure that would get really old.

Well, you know if/when you get a scanner, you're more than welcome to post those scans here! :) I love seeing what other fans get, hehe. Ii'm sure you'll hear back from Cloris, b/c I know other people have and they've gotten responses.
