who hasn't ever had a boy call her anything like hot, sexy, pretty, beautiful, ect before??
It makes me feel really bad that no boy calls me anything like that ever while all my friends and family get called those nice names all the time! Last year boys always called me ugly like every single day!! :crying:
Sometimes my friends or people in my familiy say I'm not ugly and I'm pretty, but I can't believe them since a boy has never said I'm pretty or anything!

I did get a boyfriend a few days ago....I met him online, he was a couple of my friends ex boyfriend. My friends keep telling me he's just a jerk and I shouldn't go out with him or anything. But if my "boyfriend" ever met me or saw me, I'm afraid if he'd break up with me :(

Please take me seriously here.

Just because a boy hasn't said it doesn't mean squat. Seriously. If you have to rely on boys to keep up your self-esteem, you're in for a long and depressing life.

It's Thanksgiving (at least for a few more minutes). Just be thankful you're healthy and have a house to live in and food on the table. Don't dwell over this crap.

I don't even speak to any guys at this point, therefore I have no idea what they are thinking about me. No one has ever randomly come up to me and told me I was pretty or anything like that. I personally don't think I'm all that attractive. I don't say that to fish for compliments, that's just how I feel about myself. I don't really mind much anymore. It used to annoy me that my sister got so much more attention from people in general when she was my age then I do, but I've gotten over it. We're complete opposites anyways.

Stop obsessing with having a boyfriend. You don't want to come off as desperate, or guys really aren't going to like you. Hm, well atleast I'm guessing that is the case. I may not be the most reliable source when it comes to the guy department...

Exactly. Most don't want a needy, desperate girl.

Are you wanting a boyfriend so bad because you want the companionship and friendship, or just because everyone else has one?

You need to get to know yourself and appeciate the qualities you do have. If your worried about appearing sexy to some idiot who knows what to say to keep you in check, then your gonna be be depressed and probably knocked up by 16 to put it bluntly. A guy worth having is one who appreciates the fact that your happy with yourself and knowing that no one is going to change that about you. Beauty lasts a moment, depth lasts a lifetime.

Well I'm married and my husband doesn't tell me all that mushy crap. Every once in a while he'll tell me my hair looks nice or that I look good in a certain outfit but I don't think he's ever called me sexy or hot or whatever to my face. It doesn't bother me a bit, I mean he wouldn't have married me if he wasn't attracted to me. What's important to me is that he has a job, is responsible and able to take care of his family. Half these guys who tell their women that they are hot and gorgeous don't even really mean it anyway. One minute theyh tell you your gorgeous and that they love you and the next minute they go out and cheat on you or something.

why should it matter if boys say that you're sexy or hot? over half the time at this age, it's just a superficial comment to make, with little or no meaning.

for example, my friend was dating this girl Amy for a week. and during that week, he was saying how hot and sexy she was practically once every 5 minutes! guess what, they broke up. now, he says she's the fattest ugliest bitch in the world, and he constantly picks her appearance apart.

so if a boy calls you sexy or hot, the chances are that he'll find someone else within the next couple of days to call "hot and sexy" and he'll forget about you. i should know. but actually i've thought this one girl was hot and sexy for 2 months now and she's the only girl i like in that way.

you shouldn't base your happiness off of what guys say to you. if you do this, you will only have a life of sorrow and depression, and a low self image.

Why do you want to meet a boy online? Why is that even an option? Do you want to get caught up in some fantasy just because you want to hear someone tell you your pretty? I don't understand that one at all, I mean your 14. What are you going to do with a relationship like this? I'de hate to tell you this but the success rate of relationships online are very low at your age. You'de probably have a higher chance of running into a 45 -year-old pedophile who wants rape you and kill you.

Niki, just get more involved in extra-cirricular activities and mingle. Seriously. When you do that, it's a better way of getting to know people. Focus on just getting to know them more so than searching, especially at your age. I wish I would've done that at your age. I wish I would've had advice like you are getting, and I would've been more outgoing with better self-esteem. You don't want to come off as "desparate" by waiting for guys to say that. Take a look at some of the guys who have posted about this already. It's an indicator.

there's so much more to life than having a boyfriend or girlfriend. i would like a girlfriend but not having one doesn't make me any less happy.

Yes, there is so much more to life than that. I could go back to some of my journals when I was in 8th grade and I was so preoccupied with the fact that I had never had a boyfriend or been asked out or even had a guy like me (actually I thought this stuff as early as 11 years old.) That lasted pretty much through my sophomore year of high school when it hit me that I probably wouldn't get a boyfriend in HS and I was ok with that (most of the time.)

I feel like I have been saying this all the time around here but I didn't get my first boyfriend, or a guy call me beautiful, until this past summer. So from someone who knows what you are feeling Niki, it's really not worth dwelling over. I ended up having a great time in high school with my small group of friends instead of moving from boyfriend to boyfriend like a lot of girls do and now I am in my second year of college when it's so easy to drift away from people and I still have my close group of high school friends and a boyfriend.

So, in my opinion, it was worth the wait.

I know other people have said this, Niki, but I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you. You're still quite young, and as others have said, not all boys can just go and tell a girl that they're really pretty, even if they are.

There's plenty of time for all of that to happen - and if you really want to meet some people, then I agree with what the others have said; you could join in some clubs or activities. Are there any sports that you like doing? Are there any clubs at your school that you'd be interested in joining?

You could even try forming some friendships with boys...not necessarily boyfriend/girlfriend relationships...just as friends, to see how it goes.

She'll learn for herself. She doesn't seem to take what we are saying seriously, so it'll be up to her to "see" for herself then.

In All Honesty, if a female never hears she is attractive from a guy that means she may not be at that time.
Well, if anyone (be it, male OR female) is always reliant on hearing such a compliment about themselves, then they will feel miserable the minute they don't get that "compliment." It helps to know realistically it can be both ways at times. That'll lead of depressed and "what is wrong with me?" feelings if people are reliant on "compliments" and don't hear what THEY want to hear. Right now, Niki seems to be very obsessed over "I MUST be hot or else I'll be miserable" attitude. It shows in her posts.

Your 9 year old sister has boys call her hot? No offense, but that's disturbing. Dang, I mean, I didn't really get my appearance together and all that until I was at least in HS. I JH I looked ugly and awkward...as did most of the girls I went to school with. I wouldn't worry about it...the boys telling your sisters this either don't mean it, are just saying it because they think it sounds cool, are jerks, or all 3. I wouldn't put a lot into a 12 year old calling me "hot."

Exactly! Why is that such a hard concept to understand!?! It almost seems like some people just don't want it to be that easy or something, or is it that if they stop appearing so desperate for compliments then people will just stop paying attention to them altogether?

Why does this subject pop up like once every six months? First of all no 9 year old is hot. Even when I was 9 I never thought of one as "hot". Secondly it's annoying that you feel you have to come here and say that you think you are ugly, only to have people tell you you aren't.

Anyhow if I recall 14 is an akward age for anyone. People are going through puberty so fast, it alters the way you look. So while I am doubting you are unattractive, even if you are, in a couple years you could be a knockout, then what will all them boys say? Give it time, there is no reason to rush things.

And once again, a 9 year old under any circumstances is not hot.

Those are good questions.

Maybe I'm weird, but too many compliments embarrass me. Plus, I think a lot of compliments aren't really all that meaningful. Like they're just being said so the person you're complimenting doesn't think you're a jerk.

Many guys do only care about looks. But I, as a guy, hold no respect for pigs like that.

I realize I have come in late(happens all the time, these days) and I doubt I can say much more than has already been said. Truthfully, I admire how much genuine advise you have already gotten. It'll be hard for me not to sound redundant.

But I will say, when you posted a picture of yourself one time, I said you were pretty. I'm not generally known to give out compliments like that. And I certainly ment it. You've got some real physical beauty, and it's a tragady you don't realize it.

I fear for you. If you can't develop a strong foundation in self-esteam, it won't matter if you have a dozen guys falling over you. Every little upset in life will prove devestating.

I hate to say this, but people will fail you. Betrayal, lies, departure, death. Even the truest friends could leave you, through no fault of their own.

You should focus on strengthening your values; not wait for someone else to place a value on you.

If you can build yourself up on a strong foundation of self-esteam, trust yourself and love yourself for your values(not the ones someone places on you), then you can survive anything life throws at you... without a boy friend....

It's a bit of a jungle out here, dear. You can't rely on any one person... to see you through.

There has never been more truth spoken than this! :tiphat:

Aw, sweetie, you don't need guys to tell you your beautiful. I'm sure you are, and you don't need anyone to tell you that. Trust me, guys will come around soon and they'll be all over you.
Having a boyfriend online isn't the best thing, because they can say they're someone different then who they are.

If he's saying "I love you" he's got problems. It's one thing if he says that you're attractive, that's not a bad thing. But "I love you" is pretty serious. I mean the whole online thing, you never know who you're talking to. He might send you a picture, that is fake. In reality, he could be a 48 year old man. You're 14, and really are too young for internet dating or things like that. There are women in their 30s, who get taken for suckers everyday on the internet. Really, your time will come. It'll happen when it's supposed to. Maybe you're a late bloomer. I know that I am. I'm 20, and just recently had the experience of my first date, and first kiss. It was great, and I'm happy it happend when I was older.

I'm not being vindicitive, I'm just saying it's a handful to deal with as a parent. I was only stating the obvious. It wasn't at her in particular, it was more about to what extent you need to watch and worry about their kid. That's a lot to handle.

i have mixed feelings on online relationships.

i think that it's alright if you can't find someone who you like in real life, and you meet someone online. but you must know for sure who you're talking to and that they are being honest.

the part i think makes it bad is that you never know who it is you're talking to, and it could be a 50 year old trying to stalk you.

I agree with your feelings about online relationships. My best friend met her current boyfriend online and he's a nice guy and things are going great for them. But she's in a different sort of situation-she's 20, talked to him on the phone before she met him, met him in a public place, all those sort of things. I'm still kind of wary about online relationships in general but having known someone who had it work, I'm starting to come around a bit.

Michael [hXc]
11-26-2005, 03:08 PM
it sort of pisses me off when people say "why not find someone in real life". this is probably coming from someone who can easily get anyone they want and doesn't understand other people's situations. i wouldn't have an online relationship but i don't see what the big deal is.

No it's probably not safe but in all honesty if all it does it stay online, no in person meetings or anything, if the person is some pedophile or not, I hardly think it qualifys as dating.

Michael [hXc]
11-26-2005, 04:17 PM
it doesn't qualify as real dating if it's just kept online. but i think it depends on the situation to determine if it's acceptable or not.

I agree with you. Heaven forbid some of us be terribly shy or just not have the knack for meeting people or socializing. I mean, many people my age meet at bars or clubs...I hate bars and clubs.
