I always do that for large gatherings. I buy the holiday themed heavy-duty plates, bowls, cups, etc. I use regular silverware though.

That sounds like a good idea. I wish I had thought of that last year!! I had to wash a ton of dishes!! I finally got a dishwasher so we'll continue using regular plates this year.

There's nothing wrong with that. I wish I would've thought of doing that. I only do it (also) for large gatherings.

Whatever you feel comfortable doing. We usually eat off of regular plates at Thanksgiving & Christmas.

I cannot stand paper and plastic! We always have our Thanksgiving dinner on my Mom's china and flatware. But then again she has a dishwasher!:lol:

Mashed potatoes and gravy do not stand up too well with paper plates! Oh no!ohno: Disaster ready to happen!:eek:

Yes. if someone goes through the lengths to make a nice meal, at least top it off with some real plates. the only time my family would eat on paper plates is if it's take out.

Ah, but the GOOD paper plates do hold up very well. Gotta get the expensive ones! They hold ANYTHING!:D

Paper plates dont hold up well with, as mentioned before, mashed potatoes & gravy. We use real plates.

I hate plastic knives/forks, although we do use paper plates for the majority of the rest of the year.

Im pretty sure we eat on regular plates for holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter...ect, for 4th of July we use paper everything though.

We eat off paper plates and on my mom's side of the family, we use metal utensils. :p

Paper plates just wont cut it for me when I'm shoveling all of that delicious food onto my plate.

lol I thought that's what everyone did! That's what we do every year.....well with fancy paper plates if u know what I mean.

If the gathering is here, then it's regular plates. We have a dishwasher and my mom likes it more formal. At someone else's house...anything goes, because half the family doesn't want to do dishes or something.

Other gatherings like birthdays though might get paper and plastic. Though I'm not a fan of plastic forks. Though I hate eating with other people's regular utensils. I don't know how they were washed. <---That's weird.

We used glass plates at my dad's family's party. But WHY??!! There was like 40 people there.

The only time I use paper plates for a meal is at a cookout. I can't image using paper plates for thanksgiving. Many of you must hate to wash dishes. We have so easy compared to our ancesters They had to kill the bird, grow the vegetables, and spend hours cooking everything. They were happy to bring out the best china and silverware for guests to use. What do some of us do. Buy paper plates. How tacky. No warm memories of chatting to a relatives as you wash or stack the dishes in the dishwasher.

For Thanksgiving we actually do use real dishes because there's always only 6 of us total (except this year there was 5 because I was sick). But for other family gatherings when we have more people we usually use plastic/paper dinnerware.
