they never mentioned the real person who started rock and roll on the show, it's not elvis it's AL JOLSON. Al Jolson was shaking his hips while singing in the jazz singer and elvis copied that when he went on the ed sullivan show. Al Jolson made the song are you lonesome tonight and originated putting feelings and emotions into songs without jolson the whole foundation of rock and roll would of never started. Al Jolson was the greatest entertainer and singer

Al Jolson was easy listening. He influenced pop music like Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Dean Martin, Celine Dion, etc.

Rock and roll was influenced by blues, R&B, gospel, county, folk. The influential artists were like Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Hank Williams, Fats Dominoe, Bill Monroe, etc.

The end credits listed Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, and Anson Williams. Yes, Potsie.

Potsie provided the vocals for Elvis Presley and Bobby Darin (Splish Splash).

Al Jolson died in 1950. He was definitely the first megastar, so perhaps he did influence the mania of rock and roll. It's kind of strange that you don't hear more about him these days. He was HUGE in his day. My favorite song of his was called "Sonny Boy."

Well, there were other songs that were used from artists other than those listed. I'm not sure exactly why these particular artists are on the list and others aren't. If it helps any, the heading they appear under is "Recording Artists Contributing to the Series."

Also, I realize Anson Williams sang the Presley and Darrin songs when the band played them on the show, but I'm not so sure about the ones heard on the jukebox. I suppose it's possible he did Presley's vocals but not Darrin's (definitely not on "Splish Splash").

I know Anson did Presley's vocals sometimes, as heard on the Arnold's jukebox.

You never heard many of the rock and roll giants like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, or Jerry Lee Lewis, on the show. Just Fats Domino and Bill Hailey. That wasn't realistic.
