View Full Version : Don't ya think they were crowded in that one little apartment?
Kaleidescope 10-29-2005, 10:47 PM The entire family was always in the livingroom..there was a galley kitchen and the eating area was part of the livingroom. I see why there were always in eachother's face. Barbara and Julie were in highschool and still sharing one bedroom. Its amazing they didn't kill eachother off!

Oh, boy. I've got a galley kitchen. I can relate. BELIEVE ME!!!
Brian Damage 10-29-2005, 10:52 PM If the Evanses could survive, so could the Romanos/Coopers.
Kaleidescope 10-29-2005, 11:01 PM No wonder why Julie ran away..there was more living space in Chuck's van!
Ireneparalegal 10-29-2005, 11:41 PM Anne was a single mom...she couldn't afford a bigger place

Given that Ann became an executive at the advertising agency she was working for she could had got a bigger apartment so Julie and Barbara could had their own room. Ann was pulling in a decent salary to have a bigger apartment. I say that because I cannot stand apartments and I feel too closed in when I am in one.
NancyEiE 10-29-2005, 11:52 PM She might have started making more money, but she and the girls probably preferred to have extra money to buy things instead of getting a bigger apartment.
Kaleidescope 10-30-2005, 12:02 AM Ann should have never let Barbara take that minimum wage job in the sporting goods store when Barbara quit college. She should have made her work in something with more growth potential. Ann was too dependent on Schneider to move and give her family a better life.
Brian Damage 10-30-2005, 12:24 AM How did Schneider give Ann a better life?

Oh, heck! We all know there was something going on between Schneider and Ann.
TVFactFan 10-30-2005, 12:42 AM After seeing the First and Last episode, It's amazing they stayed in that same apt for 9 years-lol
BTW:Ann was unattractive with that SHORT Hair

I always liked her early bowl cuts with the straight bangs. Didn't she wear her hair like that for the first several seasons? I never liked the short hair on her at all.

What are you talking about??? Ann was a hottie with that short hair and got rid of that plain Jane look they gave her the first few seasons. If you noticed she was dressing her up better as well. That short Dorothy Hammil style fit her well.
GARFIELDKOOL 10-30-2005, 10:28 AM Doesn't Ann looks like or resemble Muriel from "Too Close For Comfort?"

I do. I raised the question on a thread over a year ago. Preference: Bonnie Franklin, Ann Romano, or Nancy Dussault, Muriel Rush of Too Close for Comfort?
Who do you preferred??
Do you think Nancy Dussault could had played Ann Romano as well?

They were both good in their own way. It's hard to say if Nancy could play Ann Romano. The personalities were almost similar, they both had 2 daughters. (Muriel got pregnant later) Ann's personality was probably more feisty, because she was a single parent and was struggling. Muriel was married and was a little bit more comfortable because Henry was a cartoonist. Jackie and Sarah were just as much as a hand full as Barbara and Julie. So to break it down, I think both women could may the other's part as well.

I don't think Bonnie Franklin could had did Muriel Rush well. She would had told Henry to go to Hell and wouldn't take Monroe's foolishness.
Nancy Dussault was not happy with the way Muriel Rush was an underdeveloped character, especially in the first season, she wanted Muriel to have more backbone and they wanted her to be understanding and comfortable. Nancy Dussault is an excellent actress and singer but she was not given proper material that would showed her comical skills. But I did like on Too Close where they allowed Nancy to sing on the show. She have a powerful singing voice. Another part Nancy could had played was Alice Hyatt of Alice.
Bonnie Franklin, on the other hand, was in charge on One Day at A Time. It was stated by Mackenzie Phillips that she had a standard and anything lower than that was unacceptable. Bonnie was unhappy with the show and the storylines in the first season and she fought with the producers and writers. If it wasn't for Bonnie's drive and fight for the integrity of the show and bringing the reality of the show being what it should be about the show would had not been a long running show.
Bonnie got the emoting and feistiness on Nancy.
seventies_sitcoms 11-02-2005, 07:05 PM I used to think their apartment was nice when I was a kid. Their set was a lot bigger than the place I was living in at the time. LOL
catlover79 06-25-2007, 12:51 AM At least the three of them had more room in that apartment than the Evans family (a family of 5 in a two-room apartment) did on Good Times. Remember JJ and Michael always had to share the folding couch in the living room??
It didn't really look that crowded. Compared to Mary Richards apartment where her sofa was her bed, the Romano's apartment seemed bigger.

That's true, but Mary was the only one living in the studio apartment.
