Yes, I remember the episode. I wish they would release Alice on DVD. I'm starving for that show. Last time I saw it, TNN(now Spike TV) aired it a couple of years ago.

Correct if I'm wrong, but didn't Marie always wear those tight looking disco pants??

I don't really remember Marie.

She was a blonde bimbo who gave the nickname Melsie to Mel.

Yeah, she was played by actress Victoria Carroll and was on the show(off and on) from 1978-81. She was always talking about marrying Mel and they were always getting into fights. She temporarily filled in as a waitress after Flo left.

I think the first appearance of Marie was during the episode where Alice's boyfriend got some extra tickets for the Celebrity benefit starring Bette Davis, Roy Clark, and O.J. Simpson. They had two extra tickets so Alice invited Flo and Vera, but Flo and Vera thought they were inviting them and their dates.

Mel got involved and he thought Alice should give him and Marie the tickets.

Marie was a bartender at the Cha Chug A Lug.

Well if that's the case Flo should have been gotten for sexual harasment to the way the treated the men in there.

"It's only sexual harassment if the person is ugly" and for the lonely guys in the restaurant (or horny) then any come-on by Flo was WELCOMED!

Actually, her first appearance was on the 2nd season episode "Single Belles", but she wasn't credited. When the girls are in the singles bar, they run into Mel, who's sitting at a table talking goofy with her. I don't think they even mention her name, so maybe she isn't playing Marie, but it's definitely the same actress.

That's NOT sexual harassment.

Sexual harrassment was probably a big theme in Alice. After Alice's husband died, she had to support her and Tommy by herself. The best job she could get was being a waitress and SH is a natural part of the job. Not from the owner, but from the customers.

She had no choice but to accept it and live with it. But I'll admit the Alice created by Linda Lavin seemed better equipped to deal with it than the movie Alice of Ellen Burstyn, which seemed more realistic.

Or maybe it was just a bigger theme in the movie.
