View Full Version : My grandfather died today
Brian 10-22-2005, 11:54 PM When I first learned about it it just hit me hard. He was at a reunion in Albequrque, Mexico and someone offered to give him a ride to a hotel. The guy driving ran a red light (or stoplight, I don't know which) collided with another car and both of them died. I am so pissed off at that guy who was driving. Everybody in my family has been affected by it, especially my grandmother. I feel so sorry for her. My father's leaving for Northern California tomorrow morning.
Let this be a warning to all drivers: Obey the traffic laws. This person didn't and not only did it cost him his life but it also killed my grandfather. Never assume that this cannot or will not happen to you. Fortunately I never felt that way but it is very unfortunate that this still happened.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 10-22-2005, 11:55 PM Brian, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. :( I don't know what else to say. I'm sure you're hurting very much.
phoebe7165 10-23-2005, 12:00 AM Brian, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather, too, and that he died in such a senseless way that could have been avoided. Please accept my condolences.:(
PrettyinPink55 10-23-2005, 12:10 AM I am really very sorry.
MsOrange 10-23-2005, 12:17 AM wow... i'm sorry Brian.. I don't even know what to say. Your whole family is in my prayers.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather man. Unfortanutely, all it takes is one idiot to run a red light or stop sign and multiple lives can be taken. Normally, I'd say get revenge but the other guy died. It just wouldn't be right for your grandpa to die and the other guy to walk away from it.
PZelda 10-23-2005, 12:34 AM :bighug: I'm sorry, Brian. :( It really should not happened. Unfortunately, there will always be idiots in this world who don't obey laws. Poop to them.
I have a similar story. When I was a high school junior in 2001, a very good friend of mine was at a stoplight. The light on her side had just turned green, so she was driving through it and some ******* high school freshman guy ran the red light on his side and he SLAMMED into her. He slammed into her so hard, it sent her car spinning and she hit a street sign. Fortunately, she only walked away with bruises and scrapes...She was one of the lucky ones, and the guy that hit her got into MAJOR trouble. She was extremely lucky to survive the accident...her car got totalled pretty badly.
consentida 10-23-2005, 12:42 AM :( I'm so sorry about your grandfather.

Brad Russ 10-23-2005, 08:08 AM I am so so very sorry Brian. :( Tragedies such as this, are so senseless, and affect so many people. To everyone reading this, please take Brian's words seriously. OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS!!! God Bless You Brian!!! You and your family are in my heart, and prayers!!!

Ohhhhh, Brian. I am sooooo sorry to hear about this. All of my sympathies go out to your grandfather. :bighug: So, did this incident happen IN Albuquerque? I am from Abq, but I do not recall hearing about this incident. Yes, this is WHY I hate when people do NOT follow the rules!! Duh... they are THERE for a reason, people! We have such STUPID drivers. Drivers SUCK here. Arghh... I'm sooo sorry on behalf of my stupid fellow city drivers. :(
Janice 10-23-2005, 10:47 AM Brian, I am truly sorry for your profound loss. Losing someone we love is always heartbreaking, but losing them suddenly compounds the grief. The dynamics are different. We lost my husband's father in a car accident nine years ago, and the family was numb for what seemed liked forever.
When a loved one is ill and dies, it's sad, yet we have time to prepare....and to say goodbye. After I lost my sister suddenly in 1991, I read a book, 'No Time For Good-byes', which helped me a great deal. The book deals specifically with sudden losses.
I'm so very sorry Brian.

I'll certainly keep your family in my thoughts.

ABlairican Pie 10-23-2005, 08:33 PM I am very sorry about what happened, that is very terrible. :crying: It is my wish and prayer that I do everything I can to be a safe driver. You look around you every day and see people who cut corners when it comes to driving. It's very sad and tragic.
Jonathan 10-23-2005, 08:41 PM You have my condolences.
Hollow 10-23-2005, 08:47 PM i'm really sorry. it's extremely difficult losing someone that way. it comes at you so fast it's impossible to believe it's true. it's been six months since my 15-year-old friend was killed when she was in a car that collided with a semi and i'm still having trouble believing she's really gone. when i first heard the news i began shaking and breathing a little heavily and i had to go home from school to deal with the shock and grief. the main difference in your case is that there was one person to ultimately blame, and that must make it worse, as opposed to it just being a mere accident.
Brian Damage 10-23-2005, 08:49 PM My deepest condolences.
Brian 10-23-2005, 09:16 PM Thank you for all your condolences. My grandmother had a mild heart attack last night but she's doing fine. It's really shaken up everyone in the family. I had to buy clothes for the upcoming funeral. I'm going to go up to Northern California for that.
My grandfather went through a lot in his life. He's had heart surgery, he went through cancer, and a lot of medical issues and survived it all until yesterday. He was 89 years old. My father said he didn't suffer and that makes me feel better.
Janice, I will look for that book you mentioned. I think my family might benefit from it.
Again, thanks for all your condolences. I hope my grandmother can make it through this ordeal. This is the first grandparent of mine that has passed away. I'm still shocked that this happened.

Sorry to hear that your grandfather died, Brian. I didn't realize it until now. :(
I wished so much I would've known both my grandparents. They all had died when I was already 2 years old.
I only have black and white photos of them. :(

Brian 10-30-2005, 06:24 PM I just got back from Antioch literally 10 minutes ago. The funeral was sweet and sad at the same time. A lot of my cousins, aunts, and uncles came. I was also one of the pallbearers. My father, who I had never seen shed a tear in all 19 years of my life, did so several times this weekend alone.
I am really going to miss my grandfather.

isiahthomas 11-01-2005, 06:02 PM My grandmother died last Thursday. The funeral is gonna be this Saturday. She was 77 years old. My grandmother that died is my father's mother. She died of natural causes. I knew it was only a matter of time because last time i saw her in July, she wasn't lookin good & her hands looked like she had arthritis. Now all my grandparents are gone.

Hang in there, man. This kind of thing is never easy. Only think about all the good times you've had with him.

OMG Brian, I am so sorry and my heartfelt condolonces to you and your family. Having lost a nephew in a car crash, I know the feeling of having been "stabbed in the heart". It is unreal. It is repulsive to know that this was no accident, but a crash that shouldn't have happened. I can't change your feelings, and I wish I could be there for you. I can't. I am here in mind and spirit and will keep you and your family in my daily prayers. May God give you and your family the strength to deal with day by day things. I am sorry and once again, I am here for you, if only in spirit. Take care.
Tuesday Weld 11-01-2005, 08:17 PM Brian, I hope you're doing ok, though I know this is in no way easy. :( :bighug:

I lost my dad's father a year ago in March, and now have only one living grandparent with me.. though that doesn't help to ease the pain and heartache you're going through at this time, just know that there are many of us who do understand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
