All the girls at my school wear sweatclothes and ripped jeans. They also wear absolutely NO MAKEUP; even the seniors!:rolleyes: They wear their hair in messy buns and they look so gross. There is nothing wrong with it at all. Just don't dress one way only too be completely different from everybody else. Just dress how YOU like and what feels comfortable for you. And if you like the 1950s way of dressing than go ahead and do it. Kids are stupid but eventually they will find something else to bitch about. And look at it this way at least you have the option of dressing as you want and don't have a stupid dress code.

Just be who you are and don't let anyone else bring you down for it.

I remember when 30 years ago, in 7th grade, I started taking pride in my appearance by dressing up for the ladies. :grineyes: The stoner punks all started calling me "Mr. Clean". :rolleyes:

First off, I didn't say it was MANDATORY for them to wear makeup; I just find it weird that in a school of 800+ kids, the only people who wear makeup are the goth kids and me. And it's not necessarily that I feel the other girls should dress as I do, I just feel that the hoodie-gym shorts-flip flops combo is a little TOO casual for school. I don't have problems with jeans or T-shirts (that is if they fit correctly) or other casual clothes as long as it isn't gym wear, sleep wear, or underwear (which is how most of the girls at my school dress). And I'm aware that it's not the '50s and I never said it was, thank you very much. I said I wore my makeup in a '50s sort of style. And I didn't mean to come off as trying to change the way the youth of America dresses, I was basically stating that I didn't like it and because I choose not to dress that way, I get made fun of for it.

I wear crap like that to school pretty much every day. I have no one to impress.

I don't like being easy to point out in the hallways because I'm really shy and everything but I refuse to look sloppy because, and I know this will sound stupid, I feel my grades will start to slip. Seriously, when I was in middle school I wasn't always dressed up and I was just an average student, but now I have an A average, so my new philosophy is "Look your best, do your best."

I wish I could wear regular clothes to school everyday, but at least I dont have to deal with choosing outfits, except for casual days.

That's exactly what I wear! LOL! I don't dress to impress and I don't wear makeup! I can't put it on correctly!! I wear the same simple type of clothes, I hate girls who dress up all preppy!

it's jean and t shirts for me always, messy hair...most of the time thrown up in a bun... and never... never.. make up. I spend too much on my make up to waste it wearing it to my classes... who exactly do i have to impress there? no one.

I've noticed that looking like you just woke up from bed is the new trend at my school. I guess it's just more comfortable.

That's what I mean, I don't care if the outcasts or like the skaters or something dress like that because I'm geussing that that's "their thing." But when the preppy popular girls who think they're the elephant's earlobes come to school without makeup, with their hair in a messy bun, and wearing a hoodie, gym shorts and flip flops and they THINK that it's some huge fashion statement;it almost makes me sick, especially when they're calling other people "dirty."

if you want to dress your own way, you definitely should. besides, why should you make yourself look like a dirtball just because everyone else is? but i am surprised no other girl wears makeup at your school, as my friend's sister (who is in 6th grade) wears makeup and so do all her friends.

You don't get it - the sloppy dirty thing is their thing. They ALL dress like that so they ARE all dresssing alike. They say that other people are dirty and criticize their fashion when they look like they just rolled out of bed.

Exactly. I usually wear baggy jeans and a jersey or a t-shirt. Some people say I look like a thug but I'm really not. Just dress the way you feel most comfortable.

I rather like to wear some cool looking jeans without letting them get broked out and I like to wear cool looking t-shirts or maybe a good looking sleeve shirt with my favorite color. I know that I don't really interest in teenage fashion so much that really puke me a lot as usual.

I don't go up to them and say "I hate the way you dress." That would just cause fights (and that's the last thing our school needs). I just get bothered by it. The worst of it is when a teacher or whoever says that everyone in school is to dress up (maybe we're going to see a play or something) and they show up dressed like that and it makes the entire group look bad. And it's a lot not just the way they dress either. Alot of them don't have ANY manners. Just today I walked past a girl and politely said "Pardon me." I'm so glad that FINALLY somebody says the same things I do about this kind of thing!! I'm always battling people who criticize me for 'dressing preppy' or 'being preppy' as they say it, and how we're all sheep and blah blah BLAAAAH blah.

I mean, at least we KNOW lots of people dress the way we do! The ones who go out of their way to 'make a statement' by the way they dress all wind up falling into the same category as the ones they're criticizing, except for the fact that they're in too much denial to realize they're ALSO in a 'cult' as they'd probably describe it.

I don't really like it when girls wear skirts at my school....they wear them like higher than their buttcheeks...its so gross...I dont ever wear skirts. I have a laid back style...I wear wut is comfy.If im sitting around all day i better be comfy. I basically wear a hoodie with my LEI or Old Navy jeans or Mudd jeans, sneakers ( ive got chucks and black air force ones that are awesome that i wear once in awhile) or my LEI black boots\shoes type things. I wear white t-shirts, or shirts that say junk on them like from Old Navy or blouses. I wear Aeropostale too. I wear my hair in this "sloppy" bun..but it looks descent and presentable. I dont see where wearing sweatpants(i wear adidas sweats to school) to school is too casual....your in school to get an education...it doesnt matter what you look like. So was I. I was never allowed out of the house in sweatpants or pajama bottoms. If I tried, my mom had a fit. And now that I can dress however I want, I don't want to go out looking like that. Besides, when you get into the working world, most employers still don't consider jeans appropriate, so sweats are so out.

Though I have very little interest in fashion and never have, I thought I would add my voice to the choir. I agree with Cathy and the others who think that the teenagers of today need to be more concerned about the way they look. There was an article in the newspaper about a year ago dealing with how recent college graduates are having more difficulty then any previous generation fitting into the professional working world because most of them don't know how to properly dress. Coming to your place of employment wearing flip flops is not considered the proper way to dress by most companies.

Also, it is important what others think of the way you look. When in a job a person's appearance is held in high regard. The way you look in your job is almost as important as how you perform your tasks. Maybe that isn't the way that it should be, but that is the way that it is. So why not start early in trying to make a good impression.

I've noticed that most pf the posts that defend the teenage fashions of today were written by teenagers. And it isn't a secret that most teenagers do not know how the real world works. Which is probably what that article in the paper was getting at.

I'm not going to be working in an office anytime soon. So until then I don't dress to impress unless it is for special occasions.
