What is your all-time favorite episode of Sanford and Son and why?

Fred and Lamont in traffic court, with the actor who played "Huggy Bear" as Fred's Lawyer, said he, and/or tailor, said the State of California. Also had the controversial "Tarzan" reference in court, very cutting edge.

I liked the show where Lamont tried to return to his African Heritage, but learned that there was a lot more than taking a new name and wearing exotic clothes. He was reminded that he should have more regard for his father as well as respect.

My personal favorite is "We We Robbed"! I believe it was on during the first series. I liked the part when the white cop whould ask Fred a question and he would have to look at the black cop and the black cop would break it down so Fred could understand. Classic stuff. Anybody remember this episode?

I also wote for the one where Lamont became Kaloonda and wore a dashiki and Fred thought it was a dress. Lamont and Fred had their yelling match in the next room and after the argument ended they both return smiling. They did that joke at least one other time on another episode. Rollo was in this episode but I don't remember him having any lines.

I have to go for the Lamont's african heritage episode myself.

Another all time favorite was when Lamont got into that barfight with that Michael Clark Duncan lookalike, then he started taking judo lessons. His instructor was funny too.

I have a lot of favorite episodes so just bear with me. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

~ The episode where Lamont is discovering his African heritage.

~Lamont and Rollo try out for a movie (which it turns out to be a porno movie) and Fred shows up and all 3 get arrested.

~The episode where one of Fred's relatives dies and supposedly leaves money for Fred. Fred and Lamont fly to St. Louis to collect the money and Fred is embarassing the hell out of Lamont on the air plane. I swear I was Roflmao at that episode.

I have a few favs too!
In no particular order
A). The one when Big Money Grip comes to town saying he's Lamont's father. The last 15 minutes with Fred and Esther are classic!
B). The one where Fred thinks Lamont's dating his half-sister. The gal who played Wilona from Good Times is on this one.
C). The Traffic Court Episode.
D). When Fred returns from St. Louis. This was the episode after Red Foxx ended his contract holdout. The 1st 15 minutes are classic.

My favorite is when Lamont and Fred have an old rifle and it fires and they think they shot Goldstein from across the street, turns out Goldstein was out of town. I also like the gong show episodes.
And when Fred says "don't like bottle beer make me burp" Took some champagne and some ripple and made champipple.

My favorites include the time that Fred & Lamont go camping. "Get your father out of these woods..."
Another good one is when Julio's goat Chico is stolen & Fred is afraid to identify the crooks.
Also the one where Lamont buys tyhe coffins.

All in all, i really can't think of a bad episode, even the ones with Grady are funny.

2)The show where Fred donates his Blind Mellow Jelly records to the library, then when he finds out how much they were worth, he gets them back by with the help of Blind Mellow Jelly's "son", Bubba or "Pot Belly". A very funny episode.

You and me both!!! I have watched it ever since it has been in reruns in the late 70's,and I have every tape from Columbia House plus the first season DVD!!! I don't get TV Land because I have basic cable where I live but I have the tapes,I haven't watched a TV rerun of Sanford and Son since TBS last carried it in the early 90's!!! I am missing several episodes that they didn't put out on tape, like the beauty pageant that Aunt Esther was in,the Christmas episode, and the ones where they went to Hawaii!!! I am 31 years old,and I like the old shows like Sanford and Son,All In The Family,The Jeffersons, etc.!!!
Keep Smiling:) :) :)

Same here. I have been watching Sanford & Son and the reruns since my Pop introduced. As a matter of fact, I started calling my father Pop, because of that show:)

I am 36 years old, and I have a friend in Germany who also is a BIG FAN. We always talk about the show, and recite things that have been said.

Do you remember the episode where the Three Degrees was on there? Now that was also a very funny episode. Especially when they were in that club with all of Fred's HOMIES (Skillet, Leroy, Bubba). That was a very funny episode.

Take care bro,

My favorite Sanford & Son episode did not have Fred in it
at all I'm sorry to say. It was the wild parsley episode.
Grady has a garden and Lamont & Rollo thinks that
the wild parsley growing in it is marijuana. Lamont
wants to get rid of it and so does Rollo but Rollos
way will take a lot longer LOL. Is it wild parsley
or marijuana ?????? You only find out near the end.
and if you have never seen the episode well, I'll just
leave you guessing.

What is your all-time favorite episode of Sanford and Son and why?
I got quite a few, TJ. But I'll go with Lamont as Othello. Redd Foxx was hilarious with his punchlines in that episode and his interactions with Marilyn's parents were classics. Plus, Marilyn seem to laugh at everything Fred was saying. You could tell she had a hard time keeping a straight face in front of Redd Foxx.

My fave is the "Lamont Goes African" episode. Many here agree. That ep is non stop laughs.

"Lamont is a weight-watchers, weight watcher"
"Will we see some Mexicans?"

There were many more classic quotes from this episode!

A lot of the Season 1 eps are often overlooked, but they are hilarious to me! There's the ep where Lamont buys the two coffins and Fred's afraid to sleep with them in the house. The one where Fred breaks Lamont's valuable porcelain collection and then fakes a robbery to cover up for it. Also the episode where Fred wants a new color TV and fakes amnesia to guilt Lamont into buying it for him. These shows focus more on Fred and Lamont and are almost like watching little one-act plays. For those not familiar, season 1 is a treat. Check it out!

My all time favorite episode has to be " The Surprise Party"
This is the one where Fred returns from St Louis and overhears Lamont telling Grady he was just as good as Fred. After he gets drunk and returns home is too funny. He was going back to St Louis on the banks of the Mississippi " Mis iss mouse"

My favorite episodes are I want my daddies records and Othello.
Just the interaction of Fred and Bubba requesting the records from the museum. And the Othello episode when it is obvious Redd Foxx is ad libing the circumsion line and the white actress is laughing uncontrollably in the distance. And when Fred says he wants to remain in the truck in Beverly Hills with a camera and get a picture of the cop when he tells him his son is in the house choking a white woman to death.

When they take in that bum, who is faking.

That's my favorite. And it has one of the funniest lines ever.

Fred: Good. I'll never contribute to the KKK!

Pops N Pals was hilarious, and so was The Merger. In The Merger, the Sanfords and Julio decide to combine their businesses and do a TV commercial. Of course, all three of them want to be the star. Julio getting more and more excited as he translates Fred's words into Spanish and Lamont strutting in with that goofy tie on had me

There are soooo many of them but here they are:

1) Othello, this one was way too funny. Seeing him and Bubba have heart attacks together put me on the floor, Oh Elizabeth, I'm coming to join you honey, choking a white women in my house. The at the ladys house and meeting her parents, I like when Fred says, Aint nothing I want in that room.

2) Traffic Court may be the best, my Father and I laugh sooo hard every time we see that episode.

3) The Gong Show was a good one.
4) The Three degrees. When they were at the club and the comic guy that comes out with the football and he says whats 6'7" ugly and hateful, and leroy says your Momma!! No matter how many times I see that I fall to the floor. Then the horn guy and he does his blueberry hill routine and at the end
says Oh Yeah! All of Freds friends says Oh no!!!

5) How about When Grady is watching the house for Fred and has a rifle to protect Freds house. And wont let Lamont in without first pointing it in his face when he tries to get in. And the funny line of when Grady says there are no Orgies( Grady pronounces it or- gees lol

There are so many great eps, but my all time favorite ones are:

The Copper Caper - at the end when Lamont is in the basement reinstalling the pipes and is yelling up to Fred to let him know if the water is on yet. The exasperation in Lamont's voice is hilarious.

Home Sweet Home - Fred is the only hold out on the offer by the Japanese firm to buy out all the properties in the neighborhood. The last scene when Fred calls Julio trying to disguise himself as the Japanese elder explaining the fact that the deal fell through wasn't "Fled's" fault.

X-Rated - the dialog between Fred and Esther while Fred, Lamont and Rollo are in jail is classic.

Mamma's Baby, Papa's Maybe - another classic scene at the end of the show between Fred and Esther discovering that Grip was actually in Esther's room. Actually Esther had great lines throughout this entire episode, as she usually does.

so many episodes are hilarious......hard to pick a favorite, but I think the one with Big Money Grip(AKA Bottom of the deck Dan), has to be in the top 3 for me....
Grip-"It's very simple, Lamont is my son"
Ester-"WHAT did you say *****!"
Every time I see it I lmao!!!!!!!

So hard to pick just one, in retrospect even the weaker episodes have parts that make me laugh out loud. (off hand the only weak ones are some of the ones from the last season- the very last episode, the one where Fred starts his own religion, the BB King episode. Episodes that are rooted strongly in Black american culture are very good such as Blind Mello Jelly and the one where Lamont gets stood up at the altar. Othello is hilarious (the thought of Bubba having a coronary is hilarious) as are many of the ones from year 3 (the horoscope episode, Fred Sanford Legal Eagle, Lamont is that You? etc).

I've always liked Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe. Grip-"It's very simple, Lamont is my son"
Esther-"WHAT did you say *****!" That was classic.
