I always been a trader who watches everything I receive because I don;t want to pass on bad quality to other traders. I see a lot of traders never watch what they receive, they just pass it along to other traders without knowing there are problems with the Quality. If anything I'm requesting it's because I want to WATCH IT, not add it to my collection so I can win an award for the Trader with the BIGGEST TV COLLECTION. So thats what's pissing me off with certain traders is they don;t watch and make sure nothing is wrong with the quality, just send to someone else so they can expand their TV collection. Any other trader WATCH what they receive?

I only collect favorites that I want to watch, so there are only about 25 series in my collection. I am not trying to build up a big collection of stuff that I will never watch, so I have a hard time finding stuff from other people's lists. I have some rare stuff, like the complete run of Peyton Place, that I am willing to trade, but if they only want the whole series at once (129 DVDs), I can't find enough that I want from their lists.

I do try to check my discs before actually trading them off, but I could never watch everything I have, even if my life depended upon it. We don't have cable and will never get cable, so trading is the only way that I can obtain shows, without paying through the nose at Walmart.

I don't trade for just myself specifically but for family and friends, as well as future grandchildren.

I have thought for a long time now that trading will become eventually illegal, and once that happens, I'm done. I will not trade underground or on the sly as I would not want to be in a position where I would need to lie in order to preserve my collection.

I too only collect things that I want, and intend, to watch, I do not trade for things that don't personally interest me just for the sake of growing my collection. But it would be impossible to actually watch everything before adding it to the list as I usually trade in 25-50 disc lots. That said, I will check out everything I get, make sure it looks okay and plays through, before adding it to my list.

Before I trade any TV show out, I make sure I watch every second of it so the other trader can enjoy the show

So that means it can be some glitches on some eps that you dont know about because of how many Discs you trade for at a Time.

That is very wise, but you'll find that the larger your collection the less likely you'll do that.

Even if there is a show that I haven't watched yet on my site, like Brady Brides, if someone ever requested it, even do it may be painful, i will watch all the eps before I ship out.

That's what I say, but some traders just collect stuff so they can expand their collection insteadof watching the shows.

Why do you have the Brady Brides if they'd be painful to watch?

Because it's a short-lived show that was never in syndication.

It is not a function of how many discs I trade for at a time, it is a matter of putting time to good use. If there are any major, or recurring, problems, I will find out about them when I check the discs. If I miss a 2 second glitch, who cares? It's not worth spending an hour to find a 2 second glitch that may or may not (most likely) exist. A person would need to have plenty of time on their hands to consider that a worthwhile endeavour.

That doesn't make sense to me, because I offered you the rare Tortellis and you turned me down.

Well, to be honest I get in often 100-300 discs a week in trade
if i were to watch them all in real time
it would take years. i work a full time job and have kids and a wife

when i get them in now this is what i do
1. i spot check the discs to check out quality
2. all new sets i compare against and episode guide to see if they are complete like they say
3. i run them through a verify process on the duplicator to check for errors and such
4. before i ship a set to someone new, i pop the discs into the dvd player to be sure they load
5. if someone gets a bad burn i replace it at once

the big difference here is that with a VHS TRADER u HAVE to watch things in real time, b/c u r dubbing them in real time

with dvd traders, it takes only minutes to copy hours

i do the best i can, and most dvd traders do also

BUT for example
the HAWAII FIVE -0 set that is out there,73 discs, 284 hours

can anyone realistically watch each and every second to check it all? and then also check each and evry second of EVERY COPY you make also? that would take months

when problems pop up i fix them
problems happen sometimes, bad burns disc errors, even bad batches of blank discs, all u can do is fix them when it arises

Yes, it was last year when you offered to tape me that Christmas commercial that aired only in the Philly area. You wanted A Christmas Vacation instead.

When I get something in I try to watch at least an episode of it, and sample some later ones to make sure the quality is consistent. I don't want to throw a 9/10 quality on something when it isn't. But I also do not watch everything that I get, and not to get the biggest list award either. But there are some things out there that I want, and if I have a large list then I have a better chance of getting it because there should be something on my list the other trader wants.

Good point. There certainly is something to be said about getting "desireable" stuff, whether you want it or not. I tend to do that by recording shows that air locally that people may have an interest in, as opposed to trading for such things. Or sometimes I will trade for something I don't personally want because someone I want to trade with wants it, and can't find anything on my list to trade for.

What duplicator are you using?

I just got a standalone copier called the Copy Master II because I was getting erratic results using my computer burner. The Copy Master seems to detect errors on either the master disc you are copying from or the blank disc you are copying to. Since I started using it, I have not found any problems on the copies when I check them, or had any reports of problems from people receiving them.

Getting back to the original question... I think that most traders that seem to be training for "an award for the Trader with the BIGGEST TV COLLECTION" trade in massive amounts either sell or sell to support their hobby. I say most because I am an exception to that rule as firm nonseller, trading to build up my collection for personal use.

It is not unusual for traders to initially trade for shows that have tradability, as you did with Brady Brades, simply because it's rare. I did that in my earlier days of trading, but now I try to make wiser decisions because trading is an expensive hobby.

Why trade for something if you're not going to watch it?

Because some traders sell also. By having more sets they increase the odds that someone will see something they want to buy.

Sometimes I will trade for a set I really don't want because I can use that set to trade to someone else for a set I really want to watch.

Well I'm not trying to make money, i'm in this hobby because I like to watch and enjoy sports and TV. The shows I collect that I don;t watch is usually because of it's rarity but Will watch it if someone request that they want that show.
