Over the next few years after CD got shot, things had gotten different around the station. Magda and Jinny weren’t as close as they used to be. Ever since Jonah, things haven’t been the same between them. After CD got shot and she recovered, her and Nate decided to take things slow. She stayed at The Division, of course. Kate also came back and Louis broke up with her. Ever since CD’s accident, she and Jinny became close. Jinny was also dating a man named Hank Rhiley. He wasn’t her idea of the perfect man, but he was good to her, or so she thought. About a week earlier, Jinny found out she was pregnant. She didn’t know how it was possible because they had used protection every time. It was possible apparently. After keeping this to herself for a week, she couldn’t keep it to herself anymore. That night, she asked CD to come over so they could talk. CD came over that night around 8.

CD- How could this have happened Jin? You were safe weren’t you?
Jinny- Of course we were.
CD- Well maybe the test was wrong.
Jinny- That’s what I thought, so I took another. And another.
CD- How many did you take?
Jinny- About eight.
CD- Have you told Hank?
Jinny- No, not yet. You’re the first person I have told.
CD- Should I feel lucky? *Giggles*
Jinny- *Smiles* Very...
CD- What are you going to do?
Jinny- Sorry you’ve reached your question limit for the day.
CD- Very funny Seriously.
Jinny- Well I think I’ll tell Hank tonight.
CD- So you’re going to keep it?
Jinny- Yeah I think I am.
CD- Well I am going. Nate’s coming over to cook dinner.
Jinny- Doesn’t he trust your cooking?
CD- No. *They both laugh*

CD left and Jinny made a special dinner. When Hank got there, he smiled at the dinner but then frowned. This made his announcement much more difficult. Jinny heard him come through the door, so she came out of the kitchen to greet him.

Jinny- Hi Hank. *Kissed him* How was your day?
Hank- Fine. Jin, we have to talk.
Jinny- Yeah we do. You go first.
Hank- No you.
Jinny- Please. My news will be easier when I know what you have to say.
Hank- Ok. Jinny, I’m in love..
Jinny- *Smiled but then frowned when she saw his face*
Hank- ..with someone else.
Jinny- What? *Paused* I’m not good enough for you?
Hank- No that’s not it. We’re just not right for each other. You know that.
Jinny- I can’t believe this. We live together for two years and you are just dumping me? *Long pause* Fine, leave me, but what about the baby?
Hank- What?
Jinny- That’s my news. I’m pregnant.
Hank- I..I don’t know what to say.
Jinny- That’s it?
Hank- Jinny I cant be in love with one woman and have another woman pregnant.
Jinny- You already do What are you saying?
Hank- I’m saying I cant deal with this right now. I’m sorry.
Jinny- You should be. Get out. Pack your things and leave

Hank gathered up all of his things and left. He made it clear that he didn’t want her or their baby. She fell asleep crying that night. The next day she went to work. Everyone could clearly see that she had been crying. CD walked up to her desk to find out what was wrong.

CD- He doesn’t want it does he?
Jinny- I thought we were happy. I really did.
CD- Forget him. You don’t need him. You can do this on your own. And I’ll be here.
Jinny- Thanks. I appreciate all your help.
Kate- Ok cases..

Months passed and still no word from Hank. She just couldn’t understand how a man would want nothing to do with his child. Since Jinny was 6 months pregnant, she had to work from her desk. One day, she wasn’t even working. She was just staring into the wall, thinking. CD and Magda saw this and went up to her.

Magda- Hello...earth to Jinny.
Jinny- *Came out of it* What?
CD- What are you doing?
Jinny- Nothing. Just thinking.
CD- Don’t tell me you’re thinking about that loser again.
Jinny- Well I..
Magda- Jin, you have to forget him
Jinny- He’s the father of my baby. I can’t just forget him.
CD- I know it’s hard. But just remember what he did. What else can you do?
Jinny- I know I know. I am just so confused. How could a father not want his own kid? That’s so inhuman.
CD- He’s a creep. We all know. Maybe down the road he will want to see him or her, but for right now. That doesn’t look possible.
Jinny- I know.
Magda- You’ve got to be mother and father now and you will do a great job.
Jinny- Yeah. Yes I will *Smiles*

6 years later, Jinny was living in a beautiful house with her daughter, Jennifer Candace. They haven’t heard a word from Hank and Jinny never mentioned it. They did pass him on the street a couple times but Jennifer didn’t know who he was and at least Jinny knows Hank saw her, even if it was for a few seconds. Jinny was getting ready for work one morning and Jennifer was getting for school.

Jinny- Jennifer Candace Exstead, you have got five minutes to come down here or I’m coming up to get you.
Jennifer- Okay mommy I’m coming.
Jinny- You have all your stuff?
Jennifer- Yes. Do you?
Jinny- Yes I do. Let’s hit the road.
Jennifer- Okay.

Jinny dropped her off at school and she went to work. She had to stop the car a few times because she kept getting dizzy. She’s had a headache for a while but just thought it was stress. She finally got to work and went up to the Division and sat at her desk.

Magda- Hey Jin, you okay?
Jinny- Yeah just a headache.
CD- Again? You should go and see someone about that.
Jinny- I will but when you are at work till five and have a daughter in kindergarten, the last thing you need to do is go to the doctor.
CD- No that should be the most important thing. Make an appointment.
Jinny- Okay sheesh. I’ll make one tomorrow morning okay?
Magda- Good.

After a long day of work, Jinny got in her car to pick up Jennifer. She always went to John Sr.’s house after school. Jinny was driving there when she got a really bad pain in her head. She didn’t feel comfortable driving so she tried to pull over but lost consciousness. Her car smashed into a telephone pole and someone called 911. Jinny was quickly rushed to the hospital. The police who arrived at the scene called Kate immediately.

Kate- McCafferty.
Officer- Captain McCafferty, this is Officer Lang. We responded to a car accident on Scott Street. We called you immediately when we discovered it was someone in Felony Division.
Kate- Who?

Meanwhile, CD, Magda, Nate, and Raina were all still there. They were chatting and laughing. Kate heard that and hated to have to break it up but she knew CD and Magda would want to know.

Kate- Guys I just got a call. We need to get down to the hospital.
Raina- Why Captain what’s wrong?
CD- Jinny..
Kate- She was in a car accident. They took her to County.
Magda- Let’s go

They all took their cars down there. In the car, Magda called John Sr. She knew he, Casey and Jennifer would want to be there. When they all got there they waited for a doctor to come out to talk to them. They were waiting for an hour and a half when someone finally came out to talk to them.

Doctor- Exstead.
John Sr.- I’m her father.
Doctor- As you know your daughter was in a car accident. She has a couple scrapes and bruises but that part will heal.
Kate- What do you mean that part?
Doctor- Well we had to run some tests to figure out what might have caused the accident. She wasn’t drunk or under the influence so we ran a CT Scan and an MRI. I’m afraid she has a brain tumor. I’m sorry.

They were all in shock. CD needed to sit down.

John Sr.- Well this isn’t the 1950s. It’s treatable right?
Doctor- Tomorrow morning, we’ve scheduled your daughter for emergency brain surgery. We’ll know more then.
Kate- Can we see her?
Doctor- She is still unconscious. Three people may wait in her room for her to awake.
John Sr.- Well I’m going in.
Kate- Me too.
Magda- You go in CD. I can watch Jennifer for the night.
CD- Are you sure?
Magda- Yeah go.
CD- Thanks.

Raina, Casey, Magda, and Jennifer went home while John Sr., CD, and Kate went into Jinny’s room. Her cuts weren’t that bad but they knew her bruises would show up tomorrow. They couldn’t help but think the whole night long how could Jinny Exstead, a great person who has always been healthy, have a brain tumor. They all fell asleep in their chairs and CD was holding Jinny’s hand as she was sleeping. CD felt a tiny squeeze and woke up. She looked over and saw Jinny open her eyes.

Jinny- CD?
CD- Hey Jin.
Jinny- What happened?
CD- You were in a car accident.
Jinny- Jennifer..
CD- She wasn’t in the car. You were and you’re okay.
Jinny- I tried to stop.
CD- I know it wasn’t your fault.
Jinny- So I’m okay?
CD- Sort of.
Jinny- What do you mean?
CD- Jinny, I’m sorry but they did tests and…you have a brain tumor.
Jinny- What?
CD- I am so sorry.
Jinny- I should’ve listened to you CD. I should’ve went to the doctors.
CD- It wouldn’t have made any difference Jin. It’s not your fault.
Jinny- Jen..
CD- She doesn’t know. Magda took her home.
Jinny- Tell her thank you. How long do I have to be here?
CD- A little while yet. You’re having surgery tomorrow.
Jinny- Listen, if anything happens..
CD- No Jinny don’t. Don’t do that. You’re going to be fine, do you hear me?

Next day, everyone was in the waiting room. They were sitting there for hours, waiting to hear some news. Finally a surgeon came out to talk to them.

Doctor- Are you here for Miss Exstead?
John Sr.- Yes. I’m her father. How is she?
Doctor- It’s not good.

Doctor- When we got in there, we got most of it out.
CD- Most of it?
Doctor- There’s still some of the tumor on her brain. If we removed it, she would be braindead.
Kate- But wait, how can she live with a tumor in her head?
Doctor- *Paused* She can’t. *Paused again* We’ll keep her overnight. She can go home tomorrow afternoon if she is up to it. We’ll try to make her as comfortable as possible. I am so sorry. I wish there was more I can do.
John Sr.- Me too!!
CD- How long does she have?
Doctor- About three months.
John Sr.- Oh my God..
Doctor- I’m sorry. I’ll talk to you more later. *Left*
Kate- Thank you Doctor.
Casey- Oh God. Who’s going to tell her?
John Sr.- I will. I just can’t believe this.

CD left to go sit in Jinny’s room. Jinny wasn’t awake yet but she just had to sit in there with her. She stayed there the whole night. Jinny was fully conscious the next day.

Jinny- What?
John Sr.- Oh Jin, I’m so sorry.
Jinny- So what you’re telling me...is that I’m going to die?
John Sr.- *Stayed silent*
Jinny- How long?
John Sr.- The Doctor said around three months.
Jinny- That’s it? Oh my God.
John Sr.- I wish I could make this all better for you, like when you were a little girl.
Jinny- When can I go home?
John Sr.- He said if you felt up to it, this afternoon.
Jinny- I’m up to it.
John Sr.- Okay I’ll go talk to him.

He kissed Jinny’s forehead and left the room. Jinny picked up the phone to make a call. Little while later, she went home. She was so quiet. Magda and CD came along to make sure she was settled okay.

Magda- Jin, do you want me to keep Jennifer for a few more days while you rest?
Jinny- No I want her here.
Magda- Okay.
Jinny- School is out for her in a week. I think we’re going to go somewhere.
CD- Go where Jin?
Jinny- I don’t know. Maybe the beach.
Magda- Well you’re going to need some help. Why don’t CD and I go with you?
Jinny- That’s ok..
CD- No Magda’s right. With Jennifer, you’re going to need help.
Magda- Yeah. Jen and Benjamin have been getting a long really well, so he can come to.
Jinny- Thank you guys.

About a week later, everyone was getting packed up. Nate didn’t really like the idea of CD going away, but he understood. If something were to happen to Jinny there, Jennifer would be horrified and wouldn’t know what to do. Everyone got packed in the car and they were on their way. Jennifer was so excited. This was her first trip to the beach. After three hours of driving, they were finally there. Jennifer and Ben quickly got out of the car to go play in the sand. Helping Jinny, CD and Magda took her to the deck, where she can sit and watch them. She looked so happy. What they didn’t know was that she would sit there, day after day. They tried to get her active, but all she wanted to do was watch Jennifer play.

CD- Come on Jin, we’re going to take a ride to get dinner. Want to come?
Jinny- No thanks.
CD- It’ll be a really nice ride. Jennifer is coming with us.
Jinny- I’m comfortable here, thanks.
CD- Come on, you’ve been sitting there for a week. You need to move around.
Jinny- What I need is to be left alone.
CD- I’m sorry I am constantly on your back. I know you’re having a difficult time adjusting, but you can’t live your life this way.
Jinny- No, I’ll just live the rest of it, walking around, pretending nothing is wrong.
CD- It’s got to be better than feeling sorry for yourself all day, everyday. I know you want—
Jinny- You have no idea what I want. What I want to do is see my daughter grow up, I want to work long enough to make Captain someday, I want to meet a wonderful man and get married and have more kids. Those were my plans. Guess they were too good enough.
CD- Jin..
Jinny- Please just leave me alone. Please CD.

CD just decided not to make her madder. She just left. Jinny started crying. After sitting there for a few more hours, she got up and got dressed. As CD, Magda, Jennifer, and Ben were leaving, she came out.

Jinny- Hey, you’re not going to leave without me are ya?
CD- *Laughs* Of course not. Come on!

Throughout the night, CD was making a list. She knew this would cheer Jinny up for sure. The next morning, after getting only 3 hours of sleep, CD went to find Jinny. She was sitting on the couch watching TV.

CD- Jinny, I was up all night. This is for you. *Handed Jinny an envelope*

CD- It’s a list.
Jinny- I don’t understand.
CD- Over the next 2 months, we’re going to try to accomplish everything on that list.

Jinny did as she was told, but kicked a little too hard. The horse went running and Jinny was screaming.

CD couldn’t help but laugh. Jinny after a while, started laughed. She looked so pretty riding along the beach. CD took plenty of pictures.

CD- Well you did it. You rode a horse along the beach.
Jinny- And I didn’t do half bad.
CD- Well not many people threaten to kill the horse if he didn’t stop when you said to.
Jinny- What else was I supposed to do?
CD- *Laughs* Okay well what’s next?

Magda, Jennifer, and Benjamin were watching from the ground. Ben and Jennifer didn’t really understand what was going on, so Magda tried to keep them distracted. She knew if Jennifer knew what she was doing, she would worry.

Ben- Mom, I have to go to the bathroom.
Jennifer- Me too.
Magda- Don’t you two want to see Jinny? She should be coming soon.
Jennifer- LOOK! *Points to the sky* Mommy and Aunt CD are flying! Like angels..

After that eventful day, Jinny grew very tired. CD and Magda helped her home and she sat looking at the beach for the evening. CD came out to join her. CD knew she was getting weaker, which is why she wanted to get all of the major things on the list done before she wasn't strong enough to do them.

Jinny- Thank you CD.
CD- For what?
Jinny- For making this the best week of my life! You've really helped me.
CD- I enjoyed myself. I'm glad you had a good time.
Jinny- I need you to do me one more favor.
CD- Anything.
Jinny- I need you to help me write some letters.
CD- Sure. To who?
Jinny- Jen. I'm not going to be around on her first day of highschool, hefirst date, her wedding day, or when she has a little girl of her own.
CD- No Jin..
Jinny- Yes CD. My mother never left me anything. I would like to leave letters for her to open on certain days. You will give them to her. Please.
CD- You know I will Jin.
Jinny- Thank you. I'm going to go to my room. I have to make a phone call.

CD watched as her best friend walked towards her room. She couldn't believe this was happening, or how strong Jinny was being about the whole thing. Meanwhile, Jinny got to her room and picked up the phone. She was calling a law office.

Jinny- Yes Mrs. Barlett..Hi..Did you get the papers arranged..Yes I'm sure..I think I picked the right guardian for her..I don't care about the other things..I only care about where Jennifer was going to live..Thanks..Bye.

CD knocked on Jinny's door. She turned around to see someone she thought she would never see again.

CD- Jin, he stopped here to see you.
Man- Can I come in?

Jinny- Come on Teddy. It’s been years since I’ve heard from you. You know, ever since that night you walked out.
Teddy- I just wanted to explain that. When we…were together that night, I felt safer than I had in a while. I was afraid of hurting you again. God knows it wouldn’t be the first time. So I just wanted to give you your space.
Jinny- Why are you telling me this now?
Teddy- I anted to make things right. I’ve been thinking about you lately.
Jinny- You mean you’ve been feeling sorry for me.
Teddy- What? No. I mean, I know what happened to you and…it’s killing me inside. I love you Jinny. I always have.
Jennifer- *Runs into the room* Mommy! I’m hungry.

CD had gone out while Teddy was there. She wanted to go get something for Jinny but she mainly just wanted to cry. This was happening a lot quicker than she thought. She didn’t know how she could handle this. When s he came back, Magda Jinny Teddy, Jennifer, and Benjamin were all sitting at the kitchen table eating sandwiches. They were all laughing which is something CD definitely like to see Jinny do.

Jinny- CD where have you been?
CD- Well I got you something to help with that little project you wanted to do.
Jinny- Yeah?
CD- Here’s a laptop. And if you need me to go print something out, just let me know.
Jinny- *Smiles* Thanks CD. This will help me a lot.
CD- You’re welcome. So Teddy, how long will you be staying with us?
Jennifer- Your name is Teddy like the bear?
Teddy- Yes it is. I love teddy bears.
Jennifer- Me too! I’ve got a whole bunch of them!
Teddy- You know what I like more than teddy bears? Dolls!
Jennifer- Oh me too, me too! Come on, I’ll show you mine!

As Jennifer is dragging Teddy from the table into her room, everyone laughed. Jinny just smiled. She didn’t want to express it too much, but she was so glad to have him back in her life, even if it was only for a short while.

They stayed at the beach house for three more weeks. They had a fabulous time, which everyone wanted for Jinny. CD and Magda had to get back to work and the kids back to school soon. John was going to stay at Jinny's house to help take care of her and Jennifer. Jinny had all of her letters written. One of them addressed to a special person. Over those three weeks, Jinny and Teddy had become very close, possibly closer than they were before. They were very happy together. Everyone could tell Jinny was getting weaker. She had lost all of her color, she was sitting down most of the time, and her hands were very shaky. The only thing Jinny cared about anymore was her friends, her family, and especially Jennifer. Jinny remembered all the questions she had when she was growing up without her mother. She did the best she could. Jennifer didn’t really understand what was happening. How do you explain to your child that you’re going to disappear forever? On a Tuesday night, John Sr. had to go pick Jennifer up from dance class. With Jinny not looking too good, that day he was afraid to have her alone.

John Sr.- I could ask one of your co-workers to pick her up.
Jinny- Dad, I’ll be fine for 20 minutes.
John Sr.- Maybe you should come with me.
Jinny- That would just be a bigger hassle. Go.
John Sr.- Oh okay.
Jinny- I have some things to do anyway.
John Sr.- You are not to get out of that chair. You need to rest.
Jinny- You are a control freak you know that?
John Sr.- Better safe than sorry.
Jinny- Fiine. *Rolls eyes* You treat me like I’m in kindergarten.
John Sr.- Bye. *Shuts door* If only you were..

John Sr. tried to keep calm the whole time, but he had to admit he was worried. He got Jennifer on time but on the way home, there was an accident which held everybody up. He was sitting there already forty five minutes. He knew Jinny couldn’t sit still that long. He started to worry. Jinny of course couldn’t sit still. She wasn’t strong enough to walk on her own. She always held onto someone. She had waited as long as she could but she had to go to the bathroom and when she got up to do it, she took a small step. She didn’t fall. So she tried a few more, slowly of course and she didn’t fall. Feeling confident, she can do it on her own, she tried more steps, a little faster and fell. She fell on her face and she tried to get up but she couldn’t. She was suddenly in a lot of pain and fell unconscious. A half an hour after that happened, John Sr. and Jennifer were pulling up in the parking lot. Jennifer ran out of the car and up to the apartment.

Jennifer- Mommy! Mrs. Fontenella said I life my leg higher than anyone in the class! Mommy? Grandpa!
John Sr.- What?
Jennifer- Mommy’s sleeping on the floor.
John Sr.- What?? *Realizes what she meant* Oh god. Uh, Jennifer, I need you to go in your room. I need to get some people here to help get your Mommy up okay?
Jennifer- Okay.

Jennifer went into her room and John called 911. CD was on her way over to Jinny place to bring her some pies she had made. When she got there, she saw an ambulance. She knew it was Jinny. She got out of the car as Jinny was being rolled out on a gurney. CD ran up to John.

CD- What happened?? Is she..
John Sr.- No, she’s very sick though. Me and Jennifer are going in my car. Do you want to come with us?
CD- No I will take mine. I’m sure Nate will want me to pick him up. Thanks John.

On her way back to her house, she knew she had to call everyone else. She knww they’d want to be there. Raina couldn’t make it but she would go tomorrow. Kate and Magda were on their way. She called Teddy next.

Teddy- *Picked up cell phone* Hello?
CD- Teddy, it’s me. Look, Jinny’s in the hospital. She’s not doing well.
Teddy- Well I’m a little busy right now. I will get there as soon as I can.
CD- What could be more important than this?
Teddy- Look I’ll get there! *Hung up*

CD can’t believe he acted like that. Teddy got off the couch, grabbed his jacket and headed to the Anchorside. CD grabbed Nate and they rushed over. John Sr., Jennifer, and Casey were the only ones there.

CD- Have you heard anything?
John Sr.- Nothing. They’ve been in there for an hour now.
Jennifer- What’s wrong with my mommy?
Casey- She had a little boo-boo and now the doctors are trying to make it better.
Jennifer- A big boo-boo?
Casey- Yes, a very big one.
Jennifer- I hope they can fix her.

CD was ready to burst into tears.

Nate- Hey Jen, look at this big puzzle book. Wanna help me find Waldo?
Jennifer- Yeah!

Kate and Magda came in.

Kate- How is she?
CD- No one is telling us a damn thing!
Kate- *Giggled*
CD- What?
Kate- Nothing.
Magda- I can’t believe this is happening. It’s too soon.
Kate- Unfortunately, we don’t control that.

John Sr. saw Jinny’s doctor walking their way. He got up but noticed the look on his face.

Kate- John?
John Sr.- I’ll be right back. *Walked up to the doctor* Well?
Doctor- It’s mot good John. She needs oxygen to breathe, she’s very weak, and she wants to leave. The decision is up to you. You can take her home but John, she only has a few days left at the most. She could go anytime. We’re trying to make her as comfortable as possible.
John Sr.- I can’t believe this. Can I see her?
Doctor- Yes. Two at a time though please. She needs her rest.
John Sr.- Thank you, Doctor, for everything.

John went back out into the waiting room. He couldn’t believe his little girl was slipping away.

Kate- Well?
John Sr.- A few days.
CD- What?
John Sr.- I know. We have to decide whether to keep her here or take her home.
CD- John, if you don’t mind, I think I’m going to take her back to the beach. She was so peaceful looking at the water. I think she’ll like that.
John Sr.- Alright. I have no problem with that. Casey?
Casey- Whatever Jinny wants.
CD- Can we see her?
John Sr.- Yes. Go ahead CD.
CD- Thanks.

CD went to her room. She opened the door and saw Jinny. She looked like a fragile porcelain doll. She was so pale and hooked up to all these machines. CD walked over to her bed

CD- Jin?
Jinny- *Opened her eyes* You’re…here.
CD- Of course. Where else would I be?
Jinny- I don’t want…Jennifer…to see me…like this. Take me home…please.
CD- Okay. We’ll get you out of here.

Meanwhile, Teddy was at the Anchorside a little drunk. He was getting over his hangover a little bit. He just sat there crying. Then it hit him.

Teddy- *Talking to himself* Oh my god. If I don’t see her now, I may never get the chance! I’ve got to go see her!

Teddy threw his money on the bar and rushed to his car. He called CD’s cell phone.

CD- DeLorenzo?
Teddy- CD it’s me.
CD- What do you want?
Teddy- I need to see her. Where is she?
CD- We’re taking her home now and leaving for the beach in the morning.
Teddy- I’ll be over in 20 minutes.
CD-

Teddy can understand why CD was still mad. Teddy knew he had acted like an *******. He wanted to beg for her forgiveness. He rushed right over there. Nate had taken Jennifer home with him. Jinny did not want to scare her. After getting Jinny settled in her room, John came in to say goodnight. Then there was a knock on the door. It was Teddy of course. John let him in and took him to Jinny’s room. Jinny was speaking very slowly because of the oxygen and her breathing.

Teddy- Hi.
Jinny- Hey. When…did you…get here?
Teddy- Just now. How are you feeling?
Jinny- I’ve been…better. I’ve…missed you.
Teddy- Jinny, I was so stupid not to come here when I first heard about this. I’m sorry.
Jinny- I…understand.
Teddy- I want to be with you. Forever.
Jinny- I don’t have…forever.
Teddy- What am I going to do without you?
Jinny- You’ll go…on. I want you…to. I’ll always…be with you. You…know that.
Teddy- Oh Jinny. *Hugs her*

The next morning, everyone carefully helped load Jinny into the car and they take her to the beach. Everyone went along. Kate had to fight with the chief but she didn’t care. All of them wanted to be there.
They finally got there. They took Jinny onto the deck and put a blanket over her. She was happy, as she looked at the water and felt free. Jennifer sat with her for a while then she wanted to go play. Everyone came out and sat with her from time to time. When she was finally alone, Kate thought it was a good time to talk to her.

Kate- Hey Jin.
Jinny- Hi Cap.
Kate- You feelin’ okay?
Jinny- Have no…complaints.
Kate- Good. Can I get you anything?
Jinny- No thanks.
Kate- Okay. Look Jin, I am sorry. I wish this wasn’t happening. I wish I could fix it all for you. I’d give half my life. I would.
Jinny- I know…Captain. Thank you. This is just…the way it’s meant…to be. I really appreciate…all you’ve put up with…from me.
Kate- I would do it again, Jin. Well I’ll go in and make lunch.

As Kate was going in, CD was coming out. So she sat next to Jinny for a while.

CD- So how’s it going?
Jinny- Good I…guess.
CD- You comfortable.
Jinny- I guess so.

CD just looked at her. Jinny sat there thinking. How ironic that years earlier, Jinny was so depressed that she tried to kill herself. Now she was happier than ever and didn’t want to die. It helped that she got almost everything done, except living. How could you ever get all of that done? Jinny could feel her breathing getting shorter and shorter. She didn’t know when it was going to happen, but she wanted to say one more quick goodbye.

Jinny- CD…
CD- Yeah?
Jinny- Bring Jennifer…over here.
CD- Are you okay?
Jinny- Please.
CD- Okay.

CD could tell breathing was getting harder for her. She knew Jinny knew what was happening. CD went to get Jennifer and brought her to Jinny. They sat on the deck talking while CD told everyone inside what was going on. They looked out the window and her and tried to hold tears back. Jinny finally hugged Jennifer and she went back in the sand. Casey, John, Magda, Kate, Teddy, and CD all set chairs around Jinny so they could all be there. Everyone knew what was happening.

Then Teddy gave her a kiss and said ‘I love you’. Jinny smiled and closed her eyes. A few minutes later, Jinny drew her last breath, and she was gone.

A few days later was the funeral. It was so hard for everyone. Jennifer didn’t really understand until that day. She went to the funeral but she didn’t talk to anyone. Family members and Jinny’s friends came up to her but she didn’t talk to them. It made Jinny’s family feel better that she wasn’t in anymore pain, but they were so upset. It just wasn’t the same. John Jr. was gone and now Jinny. As people went to John Sr.’s house, Jennifer was no where to be found. Casey looked everywhere and finally found her in Jinny’s old room. She just buried her head in the pillow. Casey left her alone. Jinny’s lawyer, Mrs. Barlett came to the house. She had to talk to Jinny’s family. Jinny of course left instructions. John Sr. and Casey talked to her first. She wanted them to be prepared. After talking to them, she called CD and Nate into the room, so all five of them could talk privately.

CD- What is this all about?
Mrs. Barlett- Well I wanted to talk to the four of you. Now John and Casey know the situation. I needed them to be aware of what is going on.
Nate- What?
Mrs. Barlett- Well, Jinny had no real money to leave. She was saving a college fund for Jennifer, which we all agreed should stay there.
CD- Of course.
Mrs. Barlett- Now Jennifer. Since her father is nor in the picture, Jinny asked if CD and Nate would be her guardian.
CD- What?
Nate- What?
Mrs. Barlett- I know this must be a shock to you. Jinny discussed this with me a few weeks ago. She told me that you do not have to do this.
CD- Well…we do need to talk about this.
Mrs. Barlett- That’s fine. Take your time. Just know that you can decide not to do it. John could take her.
Nate- It’s just a big decision. Can we have a minute please?
Mrs. Barlett- Sure.
John Sr.- You can use the next room.

CD and Nate went in the other room to talk.

CD- Wow.
Nate- Jinny never mentioned this?
CD- No. I thought she would ask her Dad.
Nate- Well what do you think? I mean, she’s a great kid.
CD- She really is.
Nate- Do you want to do it?
CD- Let me talk to Jennifer.

CD got up and walked to Jinny’s room where she found Jennifer. She still had her head buried in her pillows.

CD- Jen? Can we talk? *She got no response* Okay well, everyone’s worried about you up here all by yourself. You’ve been up here for two hours. Well, I need to talk to you about something okay?
Jennifer- This smells like her hair. *Grabbed the pillow* She’s gone.
CD- Yes sweetie she is.
Jennifer- Do you think she misses me?
CD- I know she does.
Jennifer- Where will I live now?
CD- That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Your mommy’s friend read a piece of paper your mommy left. That paper said she wanted you to live with me and Nate. I wanted to know how you would feel about that.

CD- That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Your mommy’s friend read a piece of paper your mommy left. That paper said she wanted you to live with me and Nate. I wanted to know how you would feel about that.
Jennifer- Can I stay in my old room?
CD- No sweetie. We’d pack up your things and we’d stay at my house. You think about it okay? It’s a very hard decision. I’ve never had any kids and I just want you to be happy.
Jennifer- If I say yes, can I bring all my toys?

Jennifer leaned over the bed and hugged CD. That night, Nate took Jennifer back to CD’s house and CD went over to Jinny’s. Jennifer wanted some of her own things. When CD got there, it killed her a little to see all of Jinny’s things. CD quickly grabbed Jennifer’s things and was getting ready to leave. When she got to the door, she turned around. Something told her to look in Jinny’s room. She might as well, she thought. She wanted to try and find the letters anyway, to give to Jennifer. After looking for a little while, she found them, under Jinny’s mattress. In there, was a letter addressed to CD. She sat down on the bed and read it.
‘CD, by now you must have talked to my lawyer. I think Jennifer will be much better off with you and Nate. Sooner or later, you two will have a family of your own. I hope Jennifer could be a part of it, for me. If you can’t do it, I understand. My father will be happy to take her. If you take Jen, just promise me you will be good to her, don’t ever let her forget me. I’m counting on you. I will always be watching, all three of you. ~Always and forever, Jinny’
CD had tears in her eyes. She wouldn’t and couldn’t let Jinny down. She vowed then and there, to be the best mother to Jennifer. She grabbed the rest of Jennifer’s things and left. When she got home, Jennifer was sitting on the couch, still crying a little. CD walked over and sat down next to her.

CD- Here are your things, to make you more comfortable.
Jennifer- Even Mr. Piggy?
CD- *Giggled* Yes, here he is.
Jennifer- My mommy got him for me when I was three years old. I always sleep with him.
CD- Well, it’s time for bed little girl.
Jennifer- Okay.

Jennifer started down the hallway into the guest room, which was now hers, then turned around and went back to CD. She gave her a big hug and kiss.

Jennifer- Thank you Aunt CD.
CD- You’re welcome. Thank you for choosing me. I’m really happy to have you here.
Jennifer- *Smiled* Good night.
CD- Night.

CD turned off all the lights and went into her bedroom. She plopped on the bed just staring at the ceiling. Nate came out of the bathroom and saw her. He jumped on the bed too.

Nate- What’s wrong.
CD- Just thinking.
Nate- About?
CD- A lot of things, Nate.
Nate- Well, I need to talk to you about something.
CD- Okay…
Nate- Uh…Well…with everything going on now, I think it’s the perfect time.
CD- For what?
Nate- Ummm, you know, we’ve been going out for a long time now, and I feel it’s time we--

The scene goes to a man, sitting at a kitchen table with a newspaper. As he is flipping through, he stops on a page when he recognizes a picture. He starts to read out loud.
‘Jinny Louise Exstead died Tuesday at the age of 43, after a brave battle with a brain tumor. She is proceeded in death by her mother Louise and a brother John. She is survived by her loving father, John Sr., brother Casey, daughter Jennifer, and friends.’ Oh my God.

CD went to Kate’s office the next day, as Nate stayed with Jennifer.

CD- Hi Kate.
Kate- CD, I thought you were taking the day off.
CD- I am, I just had to come in to talk to you.
Kate- Shoot.
CD- *Threw her hands up in the air and sat down* I’m so confused. Nate…asked me to marry him.
Kate- And?
CD- I said I had to think about it.
Kate- Why? You know you love him.
CD- Yeah I do. But now that I have Jennifer, I just don’t want to rush anything.
Kate- Hon, you’re not. I realized taking on Jen is a big responsibility, but do you think Jinny would want you to put your whole life on hold?
CD- No, she wouldn’t, would she?
Kate- No. Now go home and talk to Nate.
CD- Thanks Captain.

CD quickly went home to tell Nate her answer.

CD- Nate!!
Nate- *Walked out of the bedroom* What?
CD- Yes.
Nate- Huh?
CD- Yes!
Nate- You mean…yes, yes?
CD- YES YES YES!
Nate- Oh my god! *Kisses her*
CD- I’m so happy Nate. I want this to work.

As they were kissing more, the phone rang. CD went to answer it.

CD- Hello?
Mrs. Barlett- Candace, it’s Mrs. Barlett.
CD- Oh hi. I’ll be at your office tomorrow to sign those papers.
Mrs. Barlett- We have a problem CD. A man came to my office today, with his attorney, claiming to be Jennifer’s biological father.
CD- Who?
Mrs. Barlett- Hank Rhiley.

CD- So it doesn’t matter that Jinny didn’t want her to be with this man?
Mrs. Barlett- I’m sorry.
CD- So am I.
Mrs. Barlett- We’ll have a meeting with him and his lawyer on Wednesday.
CD- Wednesday as in 2 days from now? Isn’t that kind of soon?
Mrs. Barlett- The sooner we get this straightened out, the better.

CD hung up the phone and had such a look of disbelief on her face. She didn’t know what to think. Would she really loose Jennifer? Nate just came over and held her hand. He knew it wasn’t good news.

CD- He wants her back.
Nate- Hank?
CD- He wants full custody.
Nate- *Sighs* It’ll be okay CD.
CD- *Gets up* No it won’t! He wants to take her away. Jinny had to put up with a lot of crap to get over him. He didn’t want anything to do with her or her baby. He left her pregnant and alone. A man like that doesn’t deserve to be a father!
Nate- I know CD. We’ll figure it out.

CD- Yeah…sure.

CD knew she had to talk to Jennifer about this. She knocked on Jennifer’s bedroom door and peeked in. She was fast asleep. CD went into the bedroom and lay on the bed next to her. Jennifer tossed and turned but when she realized it was CD in her bed, she cuddled CD and they both fell asleep. The next morning, Nate went looking for CD and found her in Jennifer’s bed. He thought it was so cute, he quickly snapped a picture.

CD- I know Jen. Like I said, nothing is settled yet, we are talking to him tomorrow, to figure all this out. You may have to go meet him, and yes you might have to go live with him, but I promise you, I will try my very best to stop that from happening.
Jennifer- *Hugged CD* I don't want to leave you.
CD- I don't either baby. We'll figure this out.

The next day, CD and Nate had a meeting with Mrs. Barlett, Hank, and his attorney, Mr. Rooney.

Mr. Rooney- So we're asking that Ms. DeLorenzo hand over the child as soon as possible.
Mrs. Barlett- I don't think so Mr. Rooney. We're not even 100% positive Mr. Rhiley is the father and if he is, he has ignored this child for 7 years.
Mr. Rhiley- Look, I wanted to be with Jinny, I loved her, but she didn't want me around. She wanted to raise this baby on her own. Then I read the paper and find out that she's...gone, and I knew I had to see my daughter.
CD- That's crap!
Nate- CD.
Mrs. Barlett- We want a paternity test.
Mr. Rooney- That's fine. We want visitation with the girl.
CD- Jennifer.
Mr. Rooney- Excuse me?
CD- Stop calling her 'the child' 'the girl', that girl has a name and it's Jennifer Exstead!
Mrs. Barlett- *Smiled*
Mr. Rooney- I'm sorry.
Mr. Rhiley- I want to meet my daughter.
CD- You can meet her this afternoon. That's all!
Mr. Rooney- With all do respect Ms. DeLorenzo, he has every right to see his daughter for more than one day!
CD- Did you have a six year old girl crying on your shoulder at eight o'clock in the morning because she didn't want to leave you? She has been through a lot in the past few months. Her life went from perfect to bizarre. Her mother gets sick, then dies, she comes to live with me, and now her father wants to take her, no. I don't know how much more she can handle. I will let you see her this afternoon, I am not making any promises. I will let her decide.
Mrs. Barlett- That seem fair?
Mr. Rooney- *Looked at Hank, who nodded* Arrange the meet.

CD had talked to Jennifer about it. Of course she didn’t want to go, but she knew she had to. CD and Nate drove her over to the park. She started crying in the car so Nate hopped in the back seat to calm her down.

Jennifer- But I don’t want to go!
Nate- Come on Jen, afterwards, we’ll get some ice cream.
Jennifer- Let’s go for ice cream instead.
Nate- Now you know that isn’t going to work.
CD- Look, just swing on the swings and have a good time. It’s only for an hour and I will be right back to pick you up.
Jennifer. Promise?
CD- I swear.
Jennifer- *Sighs* Alright.

They arrived at the park to find Hank sitting on a bench. Nate sat in the car. He could see CD introducing Jennifer to Hank and then CD walked back to the car.

CD- I hate leaving her here with him.
Nate- How long will they be here for?
CD- An hour, that’s all!
Nate- Well why don’t we go to the Anchorside and grab something, it’s only a few blocks from here.
CD- Okay.

Hank and Jennifer were just talking and Jennifer mainly paid attention to the swings and slides.

Hank- Soo, how old are you?
Jennifer- I’ll be 7 soon.
Hank- Ah, I knew that.
Jennifer- Why didn’t you love me?
Hank- What?
Jennifer- Well you left my mom, when she was sick. Why, didn’t you love me?
Hank- No Jennifer. Your mom wasn’t sick then, but I wanted to stay. When she told me she was pregnant with you, I was never more happier, but she didn’t want me around. I loved her more than anything in the world, but she didn’t love me.
Jennifer- *Confused* Oh.
Hank- Say, I’m kinda hungry. Are you?
Jennifer- A little.
Hank- How about we go get some ice cream? I asked CD and she said it was okay.
Jennifer- But she was going to take me.
Hank- She has more important things to do, so she asked me to do it.
Jennifer- Oh…okay, I guess.
Hank- Okay, let’s go.

Hank and Jennifer got in the car and quickly drove off. They stopped at a dairy queen because Jennifer would get fussy if she didn’t get her ice cream, and then he just started driving. An hour had passed and CD was on her way to pick Jennifer up.

CD- I don’t see them do you?
Nate- Now, don’t panic, they’ve got to be around here somewhere.
CD- I’m telling you I don’t see them! Jennifer!!!!!!!
Nate- CD, his car is gone.

Hank pulled over and took out his cell phone. As CD and Nate were still looking in the park, her cell phone rang. She didn’t know who it was since it was a blocked number.

CD- DeLorenzo.
Hank- CD.
CD- Hank! *Looks at Nate* Where are you?
Hank- I’m not exactly sure.
CD- *Pause* Why Hank?
Hank- Because she’s all I have, and you would never let me have her. Then Jinny didn’t even give me a chance! I would’ve given up that other woman if she just waited for me!
CD- Please, just give me Jennifer back.
Hank- I’m sorry CD. Good bye. *Hung up*
CD- Damn it! He has her and wants to keep her! We’ve got to get down to the station.

Kate- Oh my god. Was he stupid enough not to block his phone when he called you?
CD- No, he blocked it. *Started to cry* What am I going to do?
Kate- We’ll find her! We’ll set up an immediate press conference and get you on every channel. Do you have a picture with you?
CD- Yeah. *Takes out wallet and stares at it* Here.
Kate- Thanks.

Few hours later, Hank and Jennifer made it to Los Angeles and stopped at a hotel to sleep for the night.

Hank- I’m going to go take a shower okay?
Jennifer- Can I watch TV Mr. Hank?
Hank- Sure, umm, would you like to play a game?
Jennifer- What kind?
Hank- Well, let’s have code names. I’ll be Joe, and what would you like to be?
Jennifer- Princess Diana!
Hank- Okay. So from now on, if anyone asks you your name, you tell them that okay?
Jennifer- Ok.
Hank- Good girl.

Hank went in the shower while Jennifer flipped through the channels. Jennifer sat comfortably watching the Flintstones when all of a sudden it went off.

Jennifer- Hey!

When the TV came back on, she saw CD on the channel, along with a picture of Jennifer. Underneath, it said the word ‘Missing’.

Sorry everyone! Had surgery on my foot on the 7th and have been recooperating since then but it's getting better so I'm slowly getting back to my fics lol Here's a little more before I head to bed :)

Hank went in the shower while Jennifer flipped through the channels. Jennifer sat comfortably watching the Flintstones when all of a sudden it went off.

Jennifer- Hey!

When the TV came back on, she saw CD on the channel, along with a picture of Jennifer. Underneath, it said the word ‘Missing’.

Jennifer- CD? That’s me! Missing? I’m not missing! I’m right here!
CD- My name is Candace DeLorenzo. I am an Inspector with the San Francisco Police Department. I am also the guardian of a little girl who was kidnapped this afternoon. She was last seen at Oakwood park this afternoon in a pink dress. She is 6 years old named Jennifer who has hazel eyes and dark black hair. This is the most recent picture I have. *Picture flashed of Jennifer on her 6th birthday with Jinny* This is her with her late mother earlier this year. The suspect is Hank Rhiley, who is Jennifer's father. *Starts tearing up* If anyone sees them, please contact your closest police department or the number flashing on the screen now. I just want her back. Thank you.
Jennifer- Aunt CD. I'm right here. *Thinks* What would Mommy want me to do?

Jennifer looked around the room and saw Hank's cell phone on the table. She went over and grabbed it before the number went off the screen.

Kate- McCafferty.
Jennifer- *Whispers* Grandma Kate?
Kate- Jennifer! Where are you?
Jennifer-*Whispers* I'm not sure, it's a room with two beds and a tv and bathroom.
Kate- Why are you whispering?
Jennifer- Because Joe is in the shower.
Kate- Who's Joe?
Jennifer- The man I'm with. I'm Princess Diana!
Kate- That's great Jennifer. I need you to look around the room and find a note pad. Do you see one?
Jennifer- Uh...yes on this table.

Jennifer- Hampton Inn 2464 Romada lane Los Angeles CA.

Jennifer hung up the phone just as she heard the water turn off in the shower. She quickly put the phone back where it was and turned back on the TV and pretended she was there the whole time. Then Hank came out of the bathroom to make sure Jennifer was there and no cops were. When he was sure they were alone, he told Jennifer to get into her pajamas and get to bed.

Jennifer- But I'm not tired. It's only 8:30.
Hank- Well we have a long journey ahead of us tomorrow.
Jennifer- We do?
Hank- Yes we are going on another adventure.
Jennifer- Joe, I want to go home.
Hank- *Sat next to Jennifer* You are home now.

Jennifer just put her head done and crawled into bed. She wasn't asleep but she closed her eyes so he wouldn't say anymore. So Hank went to his bed and turned off the light.

Kate- CD, come here.
CD- What is it?
Kate- I just got a call.
CD- Someone knows where she is?
Kate- She knows where she is. It was Jennifer who called me.
CD- Oh my god! Does she know where she is??
Kate- Even better. I have an address.
CD- Let's go!! Nate, come on!
Nate- *Eating* Okay.

Five hours later, the police went to the address Jennifer gave them. CD and Kate went to the managers office, to get which room they were staying in.
CD banged on the manager's door.

CD- SFPD! Open up!
Manager- What do you want? Do you know what time it is? NO VACANCY!
CD- We're looking for a man.
Manager- That narrows the field.
CD- *Grabs manager's collar* Listen buster. Did anyone register with the name Riley?
Manager- *Scared* Riley, no it doesn't ring a bell.
Kate- The man we're looking for has a little girl with him.
Manager- Little girl...yes! There's one man here with a girl, looks about 7 or 8 years old.
CD- What room?
Manager- 508.
CD- *Smiles* Thank you.

Jinny- *Smiles and bends down so Jennifer can give her a hug. Jennifer ran into her arms*
Jennifer- Mommy! I miss you so much.
Jinny- I miss you too Jenny.
Jennifer- Are you back? Can we go home?
Jinny- Honey, I'm afraid this is just a dream. I have to go in a few minutes.
Jennifer- I don't want you to go.
Jinny- I have to. CD is on her way to get you.
Jennifer- I love CD, Uncle Nate too. But you're my mother. I want to live with you.
Jinny- Sweetie, God decided it was my time to leave. But I am never away from you. I am always right *touches Jennifer's chest* here. In your heart.
Jennifer- I love you Mommy.
Jinny- I love you too. *Hug* Good bye Jenny.
Jennifer- *Cries* Good bye Mommy.

{Dream Sequence Ends}

Suddenly cops came banging through the hotel room door and Hank jumped awake. CD came running through the door and went right to Jennifer's bed.

CD- Jennifer, sweetie wake up.
Jennifer- *Opened her eyes* CD!
CD- We're going to go home now.
Jennifer- *Smiles* Mommy told me you were. *Hugs CD*
CD- *Realizes what she meant and smiled* Come on let's get you out of here.

Jennifer looked over at Hank who was being put in handcuffs.

Jennifer- Where's Joe going?
CD- Joe?
Jennifer- Yeah. He's Joe. I'm Princess Diana.
CD- Oh. Well, Joe did something bad. He has to go to someone to find out what his punishment is.
Jennifer- Will be put grounded?
CD- Hopefully. *Smiles* Let's go.

Hank got put in jail. He is currently awaiting trial. He couldn't afford bail. Jennifer is doing well. CD and Nate's adoption of her went through and she visits with her grandpa and uncle regularly. CD and Nate were later married and they were one big happy family.
