Well, it is about time!!! I'm surprised the first season wasn't released sooner, since it has the controversial 2-parter, Maude's Dilemma!

So odd, too, considering just yesterday I mentioned how we needed Maude on DVD over in The Jefferson's forum.

Here's hoping the sets do better than the reruns did.. lol.

I heard a few rumors about Maude being released on DVD. I hope it sells enough so they will release seasons 3-6. When I first looked at that article I thought I was seeing Phyllis Diller.

Yes Bill Macy is still alive. In May he will be 83. Gald to see Sony finally got some sense.

I received an e-mail this morning from tvshowsondvd.com. It sounds like they want to release Maude around the same time as All in the Family 5. The way the note sounded like they might release Archie Bunker's Place too.

They probably try to pace themselves with these series. It does cost them $$ to license them and to restore them so that they're presentable for DVD. With the wrap up of Sanford & Son and one more season left of Good Times, they would want to come up with something new to replace them. That's why I think they're willing to release DVDs of Maude and Archie Bunker's Place before finishing up All in the Family. If they didn't, they'd eventually run out of shows to release. They just probably can't afford to release EVERYTHING all at the same time. Bring them on... :)

For someone who gets so anal about whether Good Times is a spinoff of Maude, one would think you'd get the logistics of why Archie Bunker's Place is NOT considered the same show as All in the Family. To you and me it's the same show, and technically it is, but to licensees of the programs, they are complete and separate properties, at least as far as the world of syndication is concerned. This is why Archie Bunker's Place is never aired after all 9 seasons of All in the Family have been aired. It also explains why Archie Bunker's Place, in whatever timeslot it ends up in, never aired All in the Family before it. To the syndicates, the title change is the cutoff point, and they're viewed as two different shows. Much like the situation with The Golden Girls and The Golden Palace. To fans of the shows, they're one and the same, even if Bea Arthur left after Season 7, but again, to the syndicates, they're 2 different shows. In fact, it wasn't until this summer that Lifetime started airing The Golden Palace.

I hope you get my point. You and I can see they're one and the same, and I will be placing my Archie Bunker's Place DVDs right alongside my sets of All in the Family, even if things in my collection should go between them alphabetically. Then you didn't pay attention to my earlier post. If the syndicators view them as separate series, they'll release them according to their time table and not in chronological order. It's a tad odd, but understandable...

A date has not been set yet for ABP. It could be even late 2006, and by then we might get 2 or even 3 more seasons OF AITF. In reality, they will do S5 in Jan, maybe S6 in May, S7 in Aug, and S8 in Dec along with ABP. Just a guess, but four in a year is unlikely from Sony, but possible...

I think they are more likely to get sales for ABP if they pair up AITF/ABP/Maude together.
