THE ONLY REASON I BRUNG THIS UP WAS,I DID A TRADE WITH SOMEONE AY HAD MORE AND THEY HAD MORE DATA THAN DVD SETS,SO IN A TRADE FOR A SET OF 7 DVDS I GOT 90210 AND JEM COMPLETE..ALL I GOT TO DO IS PUT THEM ON DVD MYSELF AND MAKE MY OWN MENUS..AND SOMETIMES WE MIGHTGET A SHOW THAT WE WOULDNT WANT TO EVEN WAST DVDS ...SO TRADE IT AS DATA..I SAVE ALOT OF MY SHOWS I LIKE ON DATE JUST INCASE THE DVDS GET MESSED UP I CAN GO BACK AND REMAKE THE DISK..LIKE I SAID IT WAS AN IDEL..

isnt that an awful lot of work to save a few discs

there are lots of ideas out there, i know someone who trades hard drives full of shows, good idea until you figure the postal costs, and the risk of damage

joey, you dont need to reinvent the wheel, blanks are very cheap, and cheap to ship,

Umm...I hate to break this to you but no matter how you slice it if you take a 25 disk set and turn it into a 2-3 disk set...it's gonna look like crap. So yes you will have more of a variety but they are going to be ***** quality because half the people in this hobby don't take the time to learn how to do things CORRECTLY and you will end up with a market flooded with DVD sets that are worthless.....so they trade crap for the good stuff and stick to the hard workers that put time and devotion into this hobby. The 7 disk batman set is a perfect example...sellers or some traders rate this an 8-8.5 or even a 9...excuse me? Anyone with common sense would realize you cannot take a series that has 120 episodes and put that onto 7 dvd's and maintain any sort of quality. (unless they are DL dvd but that is WAYYY to expensive.)

This is exaclty why I ask for samples before I commit to any sort of trade with people I don't know....

I think I understand what is being presented. And correct me if
I'm wrong here.

Joey1727: What your basically saying is to take the raw files
(either mpegs or avi files) and then pass them to each other
so that people can create they're own custom sets.

I've done this from time to time if I have 1 or 2 episodes of a series
that someone wants for they're own collection to build they're own
dvd's. To me it's useful for the 1 or 2 episodes but an entire series
would end up being a larger pain.

Mostly the problem would be rating the quality. Some of the MPEGs I've
sent ended up being 1.5 gb of information (I do HD conversion with a3 audio on some of them. So that's going to end up being a large amount of data) so you're still only getting 3 episodes per disc. That converts down to something around 2 episodes of a disc since unless you convert it down
to something much lower. So lets take for instance lost

23 episodes plus the special. so that ends up with a little bit over 30 gb
of data (very roughly muliplied out). you get 4.3 gb roughly per dvd
so you're passing on 8 dvd's give or take. now this is just the rough
files. one of the things about passing the sets along is the convenience
of not having to take the time to convert to a .vob format and then
burn your own dvd (minimum 2 hours on some programs depending on
what you use). So there you've burnt the original 8 discs that can't
be reused (we'll leave out dvd r/w for this demo) and then you end up having
to burn another 7 discs for the actual set. So you've doubled you're disc
output and your time output all in the matter of convience.

It's a good theoretical idea. but for practically it ends up getting shot
in the foot. mostly cause of the time distribution and the added disc
costs (and I have a large aversion to just throwing out discs cause it's a
one time use).

I WAS LOOKING AT IT.THAT MAYBE WE WOULD GET BETTER SETS WITH GREA MENUS THAT WAY,BUT NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT,WASTE OF TIME.JUST THINKING OUT LOUD,,I;M LEAVING THAT THOUGHT ALONE.. :happyface

It's a good idea on paper. but it just doesn't work in practicality.

Still, with the creation of Divx players some people would be interested in this
at somepoint.
