View Full Version : So, who has bought the DVD? Munsters#1 09-27-2005, 06:06 PM I haven't gotten mine yet from eBay, but who else has bought the new Ultimate Volume 1 DVD? treky 09-28-2005, 01:20 AM not me, but I plan on getting it ASAP! :) :) Munsters#1 09-28-2005, 01:49 AM I got some double-talk from eBay, saying that they "hadn't received" my payment, even though I sent it 2 weeks ago. Now I'm probably going to be in an argument with them forever now. :( Munsters#1 09-29-2005, 12:09 AM Whew! They found my payment and are processing the order. Yay! :D hoosierelvisfan 09-30-2005, 08:03 AM I bought my set yesterday at Walmart for $21.94, I think. I couldn't believe how cheap this set was. I was expecting it to cost much more than that. I watched a couple episodes yesterday. I also bought the Chicho and the Man dvd. It was less than six bucks!!!!! So a LOT of great television for less than 30 dollars!!!!!! :D Here's my question, I wonder why they called it the Ultimate Collection?????? It's Season One, isn't it??????? Why don't they just come out and tell people it's Season One?????? I think that's confusing to people. This year I've been scammed twice by people taking my money and not sending me what I paid for. This latest time was for some Dark Shadows dvd's. I had more problems dealing with Ebay than I did with the jerk who ripped me off. Ebay will NEVER get any more money from me. I will spend my money elsewhere like Amazon from now on. Signed, Respectfully, Dutch Munsters#1 09-30-2005, 09:34 PM It's not the first season. It's 26 episodes, of the 36 episode first season. The rest of the episodes are property to the creator of the show, and they might never be released on DVD. Why? I don't know. It's called the "Ultimate" collection, because these episodes have been digitally restored and contain the original theme music. There have been dozens of various Hillbilllies releases, but most of them were poor quality and sound. From now on, I will just keep buying these "Ultimate" collections. Munsters#1 09-30-2005, 09:39 PM I got an email today saying my item had been shipped! Hooray!!! ~~~ The most I have ever been taken for by someone from ebay, was about 8 dollars. I'm very glad it wasn't more. Whenever I buy from sellers on ebay, I always check to see how much negative/positive feedback they have, and what comments other buyers left. treky 10-01-2005, 01:56 AM It's not the first season. I think MCI only has the rights to the first 27 episodes, & Paramount owns the rest. hoosierelvisfan 10-01-2005, 09:23 AM This is really disappointing. No wonder they didn't call it "Season One" because it's not season one. This is really kind of irritating, to be quite honest. I have bought Beverly Hillbillies, Bonanza, etc. on release before and they have different theme music, etc. Plus there's so much repetition. e.g., you buy one dvd to get one or two episodes but it might already have two or three eps. that you already have. So, in essence, this was a really good collection but it's not the whole season. I had seen the line up before the release and I guess I just assumed by looking at the original airdates that it was the whole season, because the episode airdates looked like they were pretty much in order. This is so disappointing. Signed, Respectfully, Dutch Munsters#1 10-07-2005, 08:29 PM I got Volume 1 today in the mail. I am glad the episodes are uncut, but not so glad about picture quality on some of the early episodes. The film is jumpy from time to time, and there is a heck of a lot of grain. There are also a lot of digital marks on the picture. It looks like a JPEG image. The sound is also crackly in some episodes. Munsters#1 10-08-2005, 11:36 PM Here are some caps from the DVD. Below: 5 Pilot pix. Munsters#1 10-08-2005, 11:43 PM More caps from the DVD. Below: Commercial for Kelloggs, Color promo (for the 4th season, I suppose), Pic from the Henning interview, Clip of the Max Baer interview, Buddy Ebsen on another show and dancing, Irene Ryan on another show and she sings. falc04 10-11-2005, 06:12 AM Thanks for the jpegs ethelmaepotter 11-03-2005, 08:36 PM Well, first of all, let me say that the release of "The Beverly Hillbillies" is a task that should be heaped on the shoulders of Paramount Home Video and only Paramount Home Video. It boggles my mind that Paramount has poured its time and energy into releasing shows like "Happy Days" and "Laverne & Shirley" on DVD to poor sales and ignores the earning potential that shows like "The BeverlyHillbillies" and "The Lucy Show" could earn. But, anyway.... I am a big fan of "The Beverly Hillbillies", but I am not a fan of this newly released compilation. It isn't the entire season, which is ludicrous. I think about 10 of the DVD's 26 episodes are in poor quality, with sound drop-offs and annoying lines running horizontally down the picture. That is simply inexcusable. If your going to release these shows, then show the show and the consumer a little respect by cleaning them up a little bit. We need to band together and forming a petition or an agressive letter writing campaign directed to the folks at Paramount Home Video and get the ball rolling on releasing a real, decent DVD collection of "The Beverly Hillbillies". ALL of the DVDs out there right now of this classic series are simply a shameful disgrace. treky 11-05-2005, 11:17 PM well; the DVD got ratings of 4-and-a-half to five stars on AMAZON.COM!! And tvshowsondvd.com also says it's GREAT!!! And also the second one that MCI is bringing out in Febuary, that starts right where the first one leaves off; and has the ENTIRE 2nd season!! I'm probably going to pre-order it from AMAZON.COM The Christmas one is also supposed to be just as GREAT!! Also; they also don't think it's right that they skipped 10 episodes on the first disc; and they sent MCI e-mails telling them it's a bad idea, but they wouldn't listen. ethelmaepotter 11-17-2005, 03:27 PM I read on this site that Paramount plans to release the show in February on DVD. I hope so, because MPI's release was a shame. I am one of these people that don't really go for a lot of bonus features. Mainly, because you watch them once and that's about it. I just want good, clean and unedited prints of the show. MPI did not give me that. They distributed a bunch of grainy copies of the show...several episodes have annoying lines running through them. I am just not happy with this release at all. I don't care about endless commericals with the cast plugging breakfast cereal and cigarettes. Just give me copies of the show I actually would be proud to display and show friends. treky 11-18-2005, 02:34 AM well, I bought both of them from deepdiscountdvd.com (I decided not to get it from Amazon.com-they wanted too much) but I haven't watched it yet. I plan too soon, and I'll let you know what I think. Munsters#1 11-18-2005, 05:09 AM The picture quality is very bad. The sound was not very good, either. Plus there are those ugly digital blurs on the words in the closing credits. The episodes look like JPG images on DVD. treky 11-21-2005, 02:14 AM well, I watched the pilot episode last night, & it was GREAT!!! Some of the things are a little diferent, but that's all. I won't spoil it for anyone who's planning on watching it, I'll just say that Jane Hathaway was only in one scene, and she just has 1 or 2 lines. But, the sound and the picture is AWESOME!!! It's almost like you're back in Sept. 1962, watching it for the very first time! Munsters#1 11-30-2005, 09:26 PM I've heard mixed feelings about the Ultimate Collection. Some say the remastering is the best ever, yet compared to other shows like Dick Van Dyke and Andy Griffith, this set pales in comparison. The only good aspect is that you get most of the first season, the pilot, and some neat bonus features! One thing that makes the set look cheap, is the 4 discs on hinges inside the case. A set with pull-out flaps would be much more appropriate. Or, put the discs in their own seperate cases, like Andy Griffith Season 1, and The Honeymooners 39 episode collection. treky 12-02-2005, 02:21 AM well, since I wrote that last post, I've watched all of the first disc and three-quarters of the 2nd one, and all I can say about the episodes is AWESOME!!! The audio & video is so great, it will knock you over!! (REALLY!!) and the extras (at least, the ones I've seen, I've heard that the cast commercials and interviews etc. are on the last disc) are also great!! The sponsor spots at the beginning of each episode, the scenes wich were cut out years ago for sydnication....I could go on, but like I said before, I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. The only thing I don't like is, whenever an episode is over, instead of returning to the main menu, the DVD starts the next episode. Also, there's no SCENE SELECTION. |
