View Full Version : I know longer like the Becky character after what she said to her Father on the
TVFactFan 09-23-2005, 03:20 PM episode when she married Mark. She was crying and said to her Dad-"if you knew how to run a Business Mark wouldn;t be unemployed and if I would be able to go to college, you screw up big time. I'm the only one who has the guts to say it."
He should have never spoken to her again in life
TexasGurl 09-23-2005, 03:50 PM Yeah, that was pretty crappy. She has said a lot of junk that is like...WTF?!

i was glad he ignored her a$$ when she came back and was already married
Southern Hellraiser 09-23-2005, 04:11 PM She cared about Mark more than her own family.

Yeah I remember that Episode... I thought that was kind of nasty thing to say to her own father.. I never liked the Becky that played roseanne even the 1st one.. i think they both had attitude problems.. I like Darlene and Dj the best out of all the kids.. Becky is just a spoiled brat.. just thinks of herself.
P.S. Mark isnt the greatest Guy on earth she could have gotten better then him lol.. He's just a jobless person.. and needs his wifey's Daddy to get him a job..haha
dynoguy88 09-23-2005, 04:17 PM I think the writers had to make Becky extra b*tchy in this episode because Lecy Goransan was leaving the show at the time. They couldn't kill the character off and they had to think of some way of describing her absence so they had her marry Mark and move to Minnesota. That's why they made her so incredibly ungreatful and cruel in this episode, worrying only about Mark and completely ignoring the fact that both of her parents were out of work. Becky had her snide moments before but she was never THIS awful.
I doubt Becky and Mark would have even stayed together if Lecy hadn't left the show in the first place. Notice how Becky and Mark weren't together shortly before this episode aired - but the writers had to get them back together really quick in order to explain her absence from the show.

I hated the part when Roseanne was telling the kids that Dan was going to close the bike shop, and then she asked Dan ''You are gonna help Mark find another aren't you''
Brian Damage 09-23-2005, 04:22 PM The first Becky was such a bitch.
GeorgiaboyJeff! 09-23-2005, 05:06 PM I just thought about something & maybe I'm late, but I had always thought that Becky had finished high school when she left with Mark am I right? Or she didn't finish high school? Because on one of the eps, Dan asks Becky.. aren't you going to school with Darlene today? So Becky was a high school dropout? Boy if you ask me, Becky got away too easily. If I ran away with some chick & got married. My parents would not even let me step foot in their home & Roseanne was just too kind to Becky when she came back!

Becky said in episode ''Homecoming'' that Mark got mad at her for quitting school. So I guess she dropped out.

ditto
80sTrivia 09-23-2005, 06:12 PM For the most part, Becky was a selfish, inconsiderate brat. Darlene had it more together. I loved the episode when Roseanne and Becky are fighting and Becky moves in with her Aunt Jackie. Darlene goes over to see Becky and gives her Hell for being such an immature brat and causing so much turmoil amongst the family!!! I always applaud when I see that episode!!!

Yeah, that was pretty bad. But Dan's sarcastic remark was funny -
I don't have a job and your mother doesn't have a job, but we'll make Mark our first priority.

True. Becky had her bad moments but I applaud every time they show the scene where she told Darlene to finally drop the depression act already because she was milking it for all it was worth and getting out of chores. school work etc.

the fact that Becky was being a bitch, only shows how realistic this show was. I had the best father in the world, and being a rebellious teen I can remember making my father cry on two occasions. I regret those moments and I hate myself for being the bitchy brat that I was. Being a teen, you think you know it all, you think 'Daddy' is supposed to step aside for you and "the love of your life." If I had listened to my dad, I would have ended up with a sports car instead of a husband (ex-husband now) who abused me. Man, Dads always know best. If kids on sitcom were always "nice and sweet" like the Brady Bunch or Full House, it would be so unrealistic. It makes me gag thinking of those 'sugar-coated' shows. I like realism. Becky also was good and she made a bad decision in choosing Mark.
GeorgiaboyJeff! 09-24-2005, 01:28 PM I felt bad for Dan, even though Dan wasn't the perfect father. Let me rephrase that there's no perfect father, but Dan tried his best to keep his family happy.I think all of that stress had let up to his heart problems. Which made him have that heart attack later down the line when Darlene & David got married. I think deep down, he feels responsible for what happened between Becky&Mark & I don't think he really got over it,but he tolerated it, notice the episode when he called Becky up at the end of the show.

Thank you! My sentiments exactly. I was a hellacious brat of a teenager and I said similar cruel things to my own parents. The writers were showing reality -- not all teens are pleasant, sweet, and love their family more than anything else in life. In fact, I'd bet that most of them are more like Becky than not.
Just think about a teenager who has found the first person that they truly *LOVE* (and not in a family way) and you believe your father is the reason you may never see him again. To me, though her words were harsh, it was an understandable reaction for a teenager. The short time that the average person is a teen is one of the most passionate, anger-filled times of our lives. It's understandable that Becky would be more concerned about losing Mark "forever" than her parent's finanances at this juncture.
Hell, I would have been surprised if she *HADN'T* had the reaction she did.

I couldn't agree more.:talk: This is a great example of why this show although totally fictional is very accurate with a lot of its themes. This was one of Lecy's better performance too.:)
