I watched a bunch of these movies all in one week last year and Beat Street was the most realistic, least watered down Hollywood version of hip hop. In case you didn't see it already, check out this thread on 80s Hip Hop Movies. But I picked Breakin' because I seen it more than the others I listed. Might I add, they were poor actors on Breakin' LOL Ozone and Turbo and even Kelly acting skills sucked! Another thing, Vashti. If I would have known these movies were posted already, I wouldn't have created this poll. That was posted before I even registered here. I just thought of this in my head. I just gave the link because I thought you'd be interested in checking that thread out too. leyajai74 10-09-2005, 05:20 PM No doubt about it Breakin LadyBee 10-10-2005, 04:35 PM Krush Groove. isiahthomas 10-12-2005, 05:05 PM Krush Groove Auntie 10-15-2005, 09:14 AM Me, I'll say none of the above. I usually don't go for those type of movies. They bring nothing but trouble. GARFIELDKOOL 10-15-2005, 09:28 AM Me, I'll say none of the above. I usually don't go for those type of movies. These movies are anything but trouble, so stop making prejudice assumptions about hip-hop. Brad Russ 10-16-2005, 04:24 AM Is Boyz & The Hood considered hip hop? If so, then that's my favorite. I agree with you GARFIELDKOOL, it's not good that people generalize hip hop movies. Alot of the movies you posted up are realistic, and just tell stories from a more relatable point of view. Boyz & The Hood is a perfect example. I'm sure there are many young kids throughout South Central Los Angeles, and throughout all of America, who live very similar lives to some of the characters in the movie. Those kids have the right to have their stories told, just like anyone else. GARFIELDKOOL 10-16-2005, 11:03 AM Is Boyz & The Hood considered hip hop? If so, then that's my favorite. It didn't focus on hip-hop like the movies I listed. It had various hip-hop soundtracks throghout the movie, though. One of the best hip-hop films ever. isiahthomas 10-17-2005, 02:17 PM LOL@Auntie saying hip hop movies bring nothin but trouble hahahahahahaha. Since you said that, what about if blacks were to say how come heavy metal groups always have weird album covers & they talk about the devil? Now if blacks were to say that, you'd say we're racist. How come heavy metal artists do drugs, paint their faces & wear long hair? LOL. Boyz N The Hood isn't a hip hop movie. It's a hood movie. Just because Ice Cube is in it & he's a rapper doesn't mean you can consider the movie hip hop. Boyz N The Hood is one of the tightest soundtracks ever. My favorite songs on there is How To Survive In South Central by Ice Cube, Growin Up In The Hood by Compton's Most Wanted, Every Single Weekend by Kam, Hangin Out by 2 Live Crew, It's Your Life by Too Short. One of my favorite scenes in Boyz N The Hood is when Ice Cube & his boys are on Ice Cube's front porch talkin sh*t while Morris Chestnut is in the house talkin to a black college recruiter. One of Ice Cube's boys says i'll tell ya'll where there's plenty of fine women at. After Ice Cube & his boys guess, the dude says i'll give you a hint. Everybody's been there. Ice Cube said spit it out. The dude said church LOL. Ice Cube said nig*a please LOL. Ain't nobody going to church to catch no bit*hes LOL. I should roll your ass off the porch for saying that sh*t LOL. Another scene i liked is when some dude bumped into Morris Chestnut at this hangout spot where everybody goes. Morris said to the dude, what's wrong with you. The dude said what the f*ck you lookin at nig*a. Morris said i'm still trying to find out nig*a LOL. So then this girl says can't we have one night where don't nobody get shot. Ice Cube said shut up bi*ch LOL. Then Ice Cube pulled out his gun & the dudes walked away. So then the dude that bumped into Morris started shooting a machine gun in the air outta the trunk of his car & everybody started running hahahahahahahahahahaha. Ice Cube almost ran somebody over with his car LOL. Why did that dude that hung with Ice Cube have a passifier in his mouth GarfieldKool? Hahahahahahahaha. |
