View Full Version : I had a Dream
Brian Damage 09-22-2005, 10:22 AM I know this episode has been mentioned in other threads, but this has to be by far the WORST Good Times episode of all time! There was absolutely nothing redeeming about it. I guess the only bright spot to this episode was the actress that played Carmen. She was a hottie.

Yeah Carmen was nice. I bet John Amos was watching this episode in 1977 and shaking his head saying-"why can;t that fool see that they are slipping in negativer stereotypes on us?" "he doesn't know he looks like a a$$hole?-lol
Brian Damage 09-22-2005, 10:42 AM I always hated dream sequences on sitcoms.
nerrad 09-22-2005, 01:53 PM Stupid episode indeed. Not to be funny, but I would never dream of being another color. What were they thinking? And yes Carmen was fine. She told the white JJ off didn't she. Saying something like, "You've got to have soul".
TVFactFan 09-22-2005, 02:55 PM I just don;t know why they brought that dumb ass BLUE HAT back when it wasn;t seen at all up to that point during season 5

I liked the episode. The point to me was to put yourself in other peoples shoes, and see how you can get different results in the same situations for different people. The show kinda summed it up, to me, in the last line when JJ said, " I'd hate to go through that dream in a dress."
And you know I was thinking about why they brought the blue hat back for this episode, and I think cause they wanted the classic JJ character to be shown as white, and you have to have the blue hat to have the classic JJ, and the purple sweater. :D

I totally disagree. The Judith Cohen Story is the worst episode.

To my knowledge, it was the last time it was shown on Good Times.

Jinxey 09-23-2005, 01:00 PM Willona......"oh lord, the boy done turned white"
LOL
GeeBee 09-23-2005, 01:31 PM I think they kind of ruined the "J.J. dreams he's white episode" by having Jimmie Walker actually there, accompanying his white counterpart throughout the whole thing. It took away from the illusion that he was supposed to have changed.

one thing annoyed me abt the scene where JJ's boss is telling "white JJ" why he isn't going to get promoted, because he is going to give it to a black employee. I can't recall the exact words, but it sounded more like he was preaching, wanting to get that damn audience applause.

I was more annoyed by the "real life" situation where the boss tells black J.J. that he will probably have to give the promotion to a white person. It was just plain wrong. It was also a bit unrealistic to think that any employer would have been so overt in his discrimination, although it definitely exists. Yes, in the end, it was given to a black female, but to even entertain the original idea is disturbing.

True. No employer would say that. That is grounds for something I am sure. I came to the conclusion the other night that when the writers of shows like GT, All in the Family, etc. were writing the scripts, they were writing them with the audience in mind. They knew the words would be said by a character but the "idea" was being said to the audience, which is why certain things were "emphasized."
GeorgeWBushGOP 09-26-2005, 11:51 AM I think the point Boss Hogg was trying to make was.
Too hell with convention. I'm sick of sticking to these bigoted practices and saw the light.
GeeBee 09-26-2005, 06:07 PM It would have been more realistic if J.J. would have overheard the boss talking about his bigoted practices to another white colleague.
