Why oh why are these characters from the old McDonald's commercials and ads not visible anymore? I miss seeing them. My kids look at me funny when I mentioned this to them. they were like What????? with this "duh" look on their faces. Does anyone else remember these characters? There was also a big purple character, I can't recall his name, anyone remember? No, it's not Barney.

Hmm I think I remember them. They still show them on signs for toys and stuff at McDonald's sometimes.

Mayor McCheese is a Scientologist! He was just on Conan O'Brien a few months back talking about it. :p

But seriously I do remember all those characters! That bird (I forget her name), Grimace, Hamburglar, those Fries- I don't know if they had names!

I also remember really cool toys they had (like playground toys) they had at some McDonald's. There was one really cool thing where it was like a jail thing high up. You'd climb up it in the center and then the top it was like a circular tunnel you'd crawl around, but it had like jail bars on it so you could look out!

She was named Birdie the Early Bird.

thanks! I actually just did a search and found that was her name. I also found the fries were called "Fry Kids" and also the Chicken McNuggets! Forgot about them.

What's a better time than this to show this picture I have! This is my dad on stage with Ronald McDonald at one of his shows back in 1987 we went to. As you can see my dad is the only adult on stage with all the kids. He's wearing a paper bag on his head (a McDonald's bag obviously!) and he's trying to write something on there I believe. I don't remember much about it since I was only 3 or 4, but it was pretty funny I guess!

Hey, wasn't there a guy with a head shaped as a moon or something?? He'd drive around space in this convertable car or something. Maybe I'm going crazy- but I remember there was a guy with a moon head. Hmm, maybe another fast food chain? I could have sworn it was McDonald's though.

Oh, I remember all the characters you just named though

yes, I believe that was Mac Tonight? I think that was his name. I know there was another name I called him when I was little. Maybe that's what I called him. I know who you mean though.

I believe there was also a character named "Big Mac" who like Mayor McCheese had a burger shaped head. I also think he was dressed as police officer, since someone had to deal with the Hamburgler.

There were also the Goblins, who were later renamed The Fry Guys.

It's scary the things you remember.

OMG!! you guys remembered! Ah memories. Thanx for the pics. I don't know why they don't use these characters in their ads like they used to. I miss seeing them. You know, back in the days the hamburgers seemed to have a little better taste, just like the previous poster said.

I could be wrong, but I think they removed those characters because of all the bad publicity they were getting from parents of obese children. Alot of them were complaining that McDonald's was making their kids heavy. So they toned down their ads geared towards children. They hardly use Ronald McDonald anymore either.

That's definately a shame. I, for one, believe the choices come from the individual. In the case of young children, their parents make their meal choices for them, not Ronald McDonald. I wish they could bring the fun back in to things, like the stuff I remember as a kid.

I remember the McDonald's characters, but not Mayor McCheese. My mom recently gave away a bag filled with Happy Meal toys lol. Those things could be worth a lot of money someday

BTW, Burger King also had a series of characters, does anyone her remember them?

Is this Captain Crook? I found this picture from one of my brother's birthday parties he had at McDonald's and I didn't recognize the character on the table. He does looke like a pirate though! There's a bunch of old pictures from McDonald's in an old album we have because my brother had at least 2 of his birthday parties there!

PS- that's me the blonde in the white t-shirt. I look like a boy in that picture!

The Burger King

That King is a lot less scarier than the one they have now with the freaky plastic face!

How cute!!!!!!! What a wonderful memory you have there!!!!!

BTW, to the poster whose mother threw away the bag of mcdonald's toys...tsk tsk tsk...$$$$$$ thrown away!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAA~
I had collected two big boxes of those old toys and due to the overcrowding of toys I threw them out. That was abt 15 years ago. Man, I had seen a special on tv abt old fast food toys and those damn things were worth money!!!!!
