View Full Version : Wonder when the spinoff discussions will begin, 2006? 2007?
TVFactFan 09-13-2005, 10:11 AM Ok, It's about time to combine both spinoffs of Sanford and Son, title the Set-"The Spinoffs of Sanford and Son" and have Grady and Aunt esther on the front cover. I only seen 4 of 8 eps of Sanford Arms and 2 eps of Grady. So I see no reason why both spinoffs shouldn;t be combined and have a total of 20 episodes, 3 Disc Set. Grady had about 11 eps and Sanford Arms had 8. It would just be foolish for these spinoffs not to be released at all.
Brian Damage 09-13-2005, 10:14 AM Add Sanford to that list.
TVFactFan 09-13-2005, 10:41 AM Add Sanford to that list.
i'm only talking about the spinoffs
Brian Damage 09-13-2005, 11:43 AM Sanford was a spinoff.
TVFactFan 09-13-2005, 11:46 AM Sanford was a spinoff.
Brian I'm talking about the two shows that are connected to Sanford and Son. Esther's and Grady's show. sanford had fred in it and it wasn;t a spinoff, it was a new updated version of the origianl show. So that show is not in the same category as sanford arms and grady
Brian Damage 09-13-2005, 11:48 AM Here we go again!
TVFactFan 09-13-2005, 12:05 PM Here we go again!
Well this wouldn't be a debate that last too long because it's clear that sanford was it's OWN SHOW-lol There wasn't a Fat white guy or aunt esther's nephew cliff on sanford and son, just sanford, which was a updated version of the original show
magellan333 09-21-2005, 10:50 PM So Archie Bunker's Place was not an All In The Family Spinoff?
TVFactFan 09-22-2005, 09:53 AM So Archie Bunker's Place was not an All In The Family Spinoff?
Archie Bunkers place was a CONTINUATION. The name was just changed from All In the Family to Archie Bunkers Place. Now in Sanford's case, it wasn't a continuation because it started 3 years after the original show ended. So Sanford was just a UPDATED version of the original show. Always remember, if the main character is still involved, it's never a spinoff. It can;t be a spinoff if the main character is still on the show

The man is correct. Why do some of you insist on continually arguing the fact with him? ;)

but u have never answered Brian's question...where does it say that a main character NOT makes a show a spin-off?
TVFactFan 10-10-2005, 02:22 PM The man is correct. Why do some of you insist on continually arguing the fact with him? ;)
Exactly, it's not even worth debating-lol If the Main character is still on the show it's never considered a spinoff
Ireneparalegal 10-10-2005, 02:24 PM Exactly, it's not even worth debating-lol If the Main character is still on the show it's never considered a spinoff
so, why not answer Brian's question...read my above post? I'm not arguing, not debating, just want an answer as to where it says that abt the main character.
TVFactFan 10-10-2005, 02:31 PM but u have never answered Brian's question...where does it say that a main character NOT makes a show a spin-off?
I just thought it was obvious going by Archie Bunkers Place that when the Main character s still involved it's not a spinoff. Not Sanford can't be considered a continuation because it aired 3 years after S&S ended so it was a updated version of the Original show.
Brian Damage 10-10-2005, 06:58 PM Your argument has no logic. Where has it ever said that a main character can't have a spin off. That is silly.

If Fred was still involved with a different Title and iving in the same House it's not a spinoff. UPDATED VERSION of the Original. So are you saying Fred was not the star of the show?
nerrad 10-11-2005, 01:43 PM I think if they finally put those shows on DVD, it will probably be the same set because there wasn't that many shows of the two.

so basically, it's your OPINION, OBSERVATION, DEDUCTION based solely on what AITF did. Not some television history encyclopedia that defines what is a spin-off. Okay Soloman gotcha.
It's his opinion Brian, not a FACT. Ok, I will let this post go, because you were making it sound like it was written in stone somewhere that a main character doesn't make a show a spin-off...etc.

Yes it's my opinion, if the main character is still on the show, it's a contuniuation not a spinoff. Would have only be a spinoff if Esther, Bubba, Rollo. Lamont, or Grady was involved with new characters
Brian Damage 10-13-2005, 11:29 AM You may have a point with Sanford, but if a character lead or not is put into a totally new environment and the show is renamed, then to me, that is a spinoff.

If it's a different environment then it's a continuation like Three's a Crowd
I would buy Sanford on DVD - Spinoff or not, the show was still good.
It`s definetly a DVD I would buy to include with my S&S dvd collection.

Same here. Anyone who don't agree deserves "One across the lips.";)
again...Sanford Arms and Sanford are not spinoffs, but continuations of Sanford and son.
Retro, you yourself said that Archie Bunker's place was not a spinoff but a continuation of All in the Family (and you are right there) but it's the same with Sanford Arms and Sanford. Gloria was a spinof, just like the Jeffersons and Maude,

Sanford was REMAKE like What's Happening Now
a remake of what? it was the same as Sanford and Son with recasting a new partner and girlfriend.... just 3 years later. other than those two characters, it ws the same house, the same star, the same characters, the same history, the sma everything....3 years later.
a CONTINUATION not a remake.

It was a revamped version of the original. It was not a continuation because it was 3 years after the Original ended
so you think that all the STAR WARS movies were remakes of the first one that came out because there was a few years in between releases? that's crazy rationalization. same with SUPERMAN, BATMAN, INDIANA JONES....
so what was Maybery RFD? it wasn't a spinoff. it was CONTINUATION of The Andy Griffith Show without Andy as a lead or even a commen character on the show.

What I'm saying is Sanford was a REVAMPED version of the Original Show. The End
so, you have the "final say" and that makes you right? nope, you are still wrong and will not concede that your defintions are wrong.
i know this is not life or death with these topics, but at least open up enough to see it.
as for you new word "REVAMPED"...i can easily say that each episode is a different series because it was different than the previous one, each time, by using your definitions.

For you to call Sanford, a show that started 4 years after the Original Show, and What's Happening Now, a show that started 7 years after the original show CONTINUATIONS is just plain SILLY.
i don't even remember WHATS HAPPENING!! NOW. that must have been while i was working nights and pre-vcr days. so i can't comment on that show as i don't know any specifics on that one.

The main point is if there was a spinoff release Sanford would not be included. Only Grady or Sanford Arms.

In my opinion with so many short lived shows coming out on DVD, I think its a great idea to release both "Grady" and "The Sanford Arms" on DVD. But I don't think they should be combined together in one whole set, but as two seperate releases. I mean one might like one spinoff and one might not like the other spinoff. It sounds better. If anyone wants both spinoffs, then the best idea would be for these retailers like Amazon.com or Best Buy to offer both sets at a discounted price.

Grady and Sanford Arms would have to be combined because there were only 8 eps of Sanford Arms and 12 eps of Grady.
gilligan fanatic 11-14-2005, 11:49 AM I don't know if I would buy the spinoffs or Sanford. I can't see myself enjoying them.
nerrad 11-14-2005, 02:38 PM I wouldn't purchase them either. I remember the titles, but never watched any of the shows. Except for the ones with Cal. The only episode I remember is when Fred suffered a heart attack.
TVFactFan 11-14-2005, 06:55 PM But don't you guys want to see a show that's part of Sanford and Son that you never had a chance to see?

I don't know if I got it as a gift maybe. I know I would watch it on tv though.

I sure do. I never got to see Sanford Arms, Grady, or even Sanford.
