Rene 09-11-2005, 01:33 AM well when i was about 12 or 13 i had this phobia about choking so i would never swallow my food-my parents thought it was a disorder but it wasnt-but maybe subconciously it was-if that makes sense. but if the person is doing it b/c they dont want to get fat then yes its a disorder Viviana 09-11-2005, 01:39 AM Do you think they feel hungry if they do it to lose weight cuz the food is not going into the stomach? Viviana 09-11-2005, 01:43 AM Yeaa but if their doing it to lose weight, do they feel like their starving? Hollow 09-11-2005, 01:50 AM Yeaa but if their doing it to lose weight, they feel like their starving? that's anorexia. consentida 09-11-2005, 01:53 AM Yeaa but if their doing it to lose weight, they feel like their starving? If you don't eat, you feel hungry. Putting food in your mouth, chewing it and then spitting it out is like chewing gum. All you get is the taste and nothing else. It doesn't take away hunger pain. So, in reality, of course people who do this are going to feel hungry. It doesn't matter if they're doing it to lose weight or whatever. The result is the same... Viviana 09-11-2005, 01:57 AM O cuz I came across this while looking online & it said that some people feel full. I don't think that's true. Max Whittaker 09-11-2005, 01:33 PM O cuz I came across this while looking online & it said that some people feel full. I don't think that's true. It is possible to fool your body into thinking it's eaten a large meal. Your body thinks because you chew a lot, you've eaten a lot. You aren't actually full. But your body thinks that you are, for a short period. I understand that that's how people would cope with hunger during hard times: they'd take a small portion of their food and chew it for as long as they could. This isn't scientific. It's my observation. MsOrange 09-11-2005, 10:22 PM do'nt you still get a good bit of the calories though, espeically if you chew it real good, even if you do spit it out? dawsongirl 09-12-2005, 02:48 AM do'nt you still get a good bit of the calories though, espeically if you chew it real good, even if you do spit it out? No, not really. You may get some if you swallow some of the juices, etc., but that wouldn't be too many. The intestines are what absorbes all the calories, so by the time the little bit you may have inadvertantly swallowed gets there, it'd be so miniscule as to hardly matter. If it does have relevance in your life, I think you have an eating disorder. crystals 09-12-2005, 09:48 PM I would consider it an eating disorder because you would be making your body starve. Spitting out the food or not eating food at all or throwing up after you've eaten all is basically the same thing. You're not getting food into your body and for a long period of time that's no good at all. Unless you're talking about chewing a peice of food that feels too tough and you can't eat it. Like, I used to not like to chew steak when I was a kid and was still eating steak. Now I've stopped eating red meat altogether. If you're spitting food out because it's too tough to chew it's probably not an eating disorder. But, if you're spitting food out to keep from gaining weight, I guess you could call that an eating disorder. I'm just not sure what you would call it. I know bulimia is when you eat lots and then binge and anorexia is when you only eat small amounts or no food at all. I'm not sure, would it be a form of anorexia? I don't know. Ireneparalegal 09-13-2005, 12:26 PM haha, my thoughts exactly. If it does have relevance in your life, I think you have an eating disorder. I know they have an eating disorder. That avatar represents something, and I don't think it's your friend who has the problem. :( MsOrange 09-13-2005, 03:16 PM You don't "know" she has an eating disorder unless she has told you in private, and if she did, shame on your for telling everyone. Vivian, yes, I would consider this an eating disorder. If it's you, please talk to someone. If it's your friend, you might want to sit down and talk with her. Um, if someone puts that here on the forum, then it's not private. If they are asking abt something here, then we are giving feedback/posts. I had an eating disorder (anorexia) when I was a teen. I read between the lines and the "friend" thing. The avatar was kinda a dead giveaway. |
