I doubt you listen to rap much at all...you dont know the history of rap, nor do you care to learn, therefore you will remain ignorant and simply stereotype rappers as rapists because of how they look and sound, which is sad. And so what if it's not singing? There are different forms of music, it's too bad that you want to put a limit on what qualifies a musical genre. How about every Eminem song? Every 50 cent song? Every G-Unit song? I've heard rap and I still think its the worst "genre" of music. I dont give a crap about the history of rap, why would I if I dont like it? And im not talking about old rappers, im talking about current rappers. So, basially, we shouldnt judge rappers about how they sound? How should we judge them? About what their mom looks like? platinumblondelife 09-11-2005, 03:33 PM How about every Eminem song? Dean Winchester 09-11-2005, 03:34 PM I think the reason people dislike rap with such a passion is because it's taken over basically every format and station. The only real outlet people have to escape rap music is country, and what if people don't like country either? Plus I don't like the arrogant attitude most of the rappers have, like the way Kanye and 50 were both such "good sports" when someone else won "Best New Artist" over them. I don't like either Gretchen Wilson or Evanescence but it was really unprofessional for 50 and Kanye to **** over their moment. I doubt if the situation was reversed that Gretchen or Amy Lee would've tried to damper their moment. If hip hop didn't dominate basically every walk of life, people might not have such a problem with it, but when it's 90% of the videos you see on MTV or MTV-2 and when VH1 seems to only like to show Behind The Music's of rappers (they have a library of 200 of those, why is it they only ever air Dr. Dre's?) and "pop" stations play more rap than they actually play POP, people have the right to voice that they're tired of it. Just dont generalize one genre as totally evil. They dont really play that many videos on MTV anyway, and when they do play videos in the morning, maybe it's me, but I usually see other genres as well. Some of the rappers are arrogant, yes. Many musicians are arrogant, they just dont let many people see that outright. But dont believe that musicians of all genres are not arrogant. But, I mean, hip hop is what is selling right now, a lot of people like it (including me), it's great to dance/party to, and for people who dont like it to say every rapper's music is about rape when they dont even listen to it is ignorant imo. I understand that people may be tired of it, but I mean, platinumblondelife 09-11-2005, 03:44 PM I didnt say I heard every song. No actually, I've heard rap, and I STILL hate it. So the lesson is: if you're going to talk about something, you should actually know something about what you're talking about. You cannot even name 1 song. you said "how about every rap song" in response to what songs talk about rape, and then you say you cant think of any because you havent heard many rap songs because you dont like rap. Well ya know, I could go on and on about "OMG COUNTRY IS ABOUT HICKS COMPLAINING NAME ONE SONG THATS LIKE THAT" but did I? No. And from the songs Ive heard, thats not what its about, but I didnt ask you 20 questions about it cause I knew you didnt like it and since you dont like it, probably dont listen to it every day. JT 09-11-2005, 06:11 PM Maroon5'd, you're making a complete ass out of yourself, and I would advise to just shut up and leave the thread. You made a ridiculous generalization about something that you know rarely anything about. Truly, if a mainstream rapper, especially one of those you mentioned, released a song about raping someone, the whole country would know it already and you wouldn't have to explain yourself. You're making stuff up to back your argument up, and it isn't working because the people you are opposing are smarter than that. I call it crap! It really disgusts me when it starts creeping into heavy metal. Mozart once said, "Music is melody; melody is music." Talking into a microphone over a drum machine is not musical! Rap has no melody, so it's not music. It is completely and utterly devoid of any talent. I'm repulsed the media glorifies it so much. catgurl 09-11-2005, 06:30 PM That's one of the reasons I stopped listening to rap music. JT 09-11-2005, 06:33 PM Personally, I'm no fan of rap for the most part. Every so often, there's a song that comes out and I find it catchy and I like it, but most of the time, I'm annoyed by it. I just find it completely immature, asinine, and plain stupid for people to raise their blood pressure over something that they supposedly "don't care for." If you don't like rap music, why don't you stop talking about it all the time? Refusing to call it a genre of music is childish. "Rappers don't sing!" Well Beethoven didn't either, dammit, and classical is considered a genre! "Well there's no melody!" The rapper barely has a melody, but the music usually does. I'm not defending rap music at all, but I'm just saying that some people really just need to pull the Huggies out of their ass. Cautioren 09-11-2005, 06:35 PM they stupid alll they do is talk Fixed. :) Cautioren 09-11-2005, 06:36 PM The only rapper I like is Eminem because I find his videos funny. Thank you for defining just what qualifies as music for the rest of the world. I know about melody, I've been playing/listening to classical music since I was in 4th grade. Rap has a melody. If it devoid of any melody, I doubt many people would be listening to it. I dont know what rap you listen to, but it's not a bunch of drums.
