I love the chemistry between Moses Gunn and Esther Rolle. The episode when they were on the couch talking was touching and looked natural. Of course, he could not replace James but I like the relationship between Carl and Florida. Too bad the relationship was more developed and storylines about them dating.

Overall, didn't like it. The Florida character loved God. Carl didn't. The writers could have brought this character in a diff. way. I actually prefer that man she met at the "Meeting Place" when Willona took her out for the night. He was damn handsome.

FUGLY!!!!! Not to mention very cranky and irritating. Even James from his grave was telling Florida "No No No, pick the other guy!!!" :D

I didn't like it. That scene your talking about when they were on the couch getting all touchy, feely made me uncomfortable cause it was hard for me to see Flo like that, trying to use her feminine wiles (I never used that phase before) to get a favor. I wasn't used to that Flo.

I agree with you, I think so many GT fans couldn;t see any other man with Florida but James and never gave Carl a chance. I think carl and Florida had good chemistry too. And Just think it Esther never left the show, in season 5 we would have saw a wedding instead of a 4 part episode on Penny getting abused by her mother.

So in the words of my Mom, so that means that all the ugly people in the world should be alone forever?-lol She says that to me all the time because I'm very shallow and only date pretty women.

How about when Carl grabbed Florida, she was like "It felt good". James was the last one to touch her like that. And he used to hit her on the butt. :p

Not for nothing but Esther Rolle was not exactly Miss America either.

If it were me I would personally rather have done a love scene with a rattlesnake.

It was never what James and Florida's relationship was, but then it probably wasn't supposed to be. Carl definitely brought out a different side to Florida with his athiesm.

Oh I agree, the man in that episode seemed more like her type. Carl seems, at least to me, to be just saying the lines, no kind of connection to Flo like the other man had. I don't think James would have liked Carl.

I really think the writers on this show after John Amos left got lazy. JMO!

Esther Rolle may not been a Hollywood glamor type. Ms. Rolle was the heart and soul of Good Times. We seen how lost the show was when John Amos was written out but when Esther Rolle left the show after the 76-77 season there was a huge hole left the following season with just J.J., Thelma and Michael floundering through life. When Esther came back in the Fall of 1978 she received a five minute standing ovation when she made her first entrance. She was a strong woman with strong convictions. If it wasn't for her when she stood up to be counted Good Times would had been another Amos and Andy. She wanted the show to entertaining but with positive values especially for young people. Again, Ms. Rolle may not been a raving beauty on the outside but she definitely had a heart of gold.

First, I was kidding...and trying to add some humor to this board..if I offend anyone, I do apoglize; but there is nothing wrong for you ONLY dating pretty girls. You have good taste, there is nothing wrong with that? ;)

Ok I semi agree with you. And I had a certain perception of her as a child. which was a good one. However I would agree with you on everything you say about her except for one problem I have with her.

She shamelessy pushed some psychic hotline at the end of her life on infomercials and the like. Obvious scam numbers for desperate people to call thinking they were gonna find the absolute truth about their future and spending money on it they couldn't afford because they were so desperate.

I think every intelligent person knew that psychic numbers were a bunch of bull**** designed to take advantage of the desperate. And myself feeling Miss Rolles was an intelligent woman am ashamed of her in taking part in suckering people out of money they couldn't afford to spend.

I am sorry. You probably disagree with me. But this is the way I feel.

No she was not on infomercials, to my knowledge, and if she did it was a mistake. Everyone makes them but it will not take away the incredible strength she brought to the roles she played and not compromising her principles and beliefs for an acting part. No matter what Esther Rolle was an incredible person and actress and I believe that what we should place emphasis on.

SHe most definitely did do them. I am sorry to dissapoint you.

Everyone makes mistakes. But in my eyes these were obvious scams.

I regret ever seeing her on them because it made me lose a lot of respect for her. I wish I had the same perception you do because up to that point in time I hade total respect for her. I remember being shocked when I saw her promoting them. Considering how she came accross as such a woman of faith.

OMG, I recall seeing her on infomercials too. Funny how things leave your memory until someone else points something out and then it comes back to you. Wasn't she wearing that thing on her head (the layered scarves) like she did on GT??????

Yes. All part of the scam.

She wore all that african garb to get her target audience which was??.

You guessed. Black people who were unemployed up at 3AM or home during the day.

It made me lose so much respect for her considering how she campaigned and made such strides for black actors and the like.

Just a gross hypocrite as it turned out. It sincerely actually saddened me.

Sad, really sad. Wonder why she did that informercial? Was she being evicted??? LOL
DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!
But to be serious, she was a remarkable actress and lady. I admire her for standing up to the producers and such.
I just wonder what made her do those kind of infomercials. I can't recall seeing her do anything other than that commercial.
