View Full Version : Any Segments We Haven't Discussed Here? Mr. Fuji 08-31-2005, 01:55 PM It seems like every new thread that goes up is about a segment that we've discussed a zillion times in the past. Are there any segments that we haven't discussed on this board that anyone would like to bring up? justins5256 08-31-2005, 02:09 PM No kidding. I think I'm going to pull my hair out if one more person mentions "the story about that girl abducted from a phone booth". Gee....what was her name again? This board has a search feature for a reason. Opal 08-31-2005, 02:20 PM I don't really mind it. I think it’s mostly new members that bring up topics that were already discussed in the past, but some of the original threads are hard to find (going back several pages) --- especially you don't know specifics. Since they don't make new episodes, there's only so much we can talk about before we've got nothing left. :( Then where will we be? LOL! ;) Kane 08-31-2005, 02:43 PM No kidding. I think I'm going to pull my hair out if one more person mentions "the story about that girl abducted from a phone booth". Gee....what was her name again? Angela Hammond. Thinman 08-31-2005, 02:44 PM One that I haven't seen discussed (maybe it has been), is the unsolved murder of 4 year-old little Rachael Runyan in Utah in 1982. That segment was heartbreaking and spooky at the same time. Anyone remember that one? SP4CE INV4DERZ 08-31-2005, 09:56 PM What about the Sarah Powell case; Where the pretty young girl woke up bound and gagged and couldn't recall what had happened and then she had visions of her attackers climbing through her bedroom window later. Her house was ransacked but nothing was stolen and it was raining outside yet no footprints were found... MetalHybrid 08-31-2005, 10:35 PM There are actually more than one way to discuss cases. There are things that can be discussed about cases, or lists of stories that have certain similarites. It was quite a shock to me that my earlier thread about UM stories from other countries that fall under the Fugitives, Missing, or Unexplained Death catagory got no replies. Even if there were no stories like this from other parts of the world on UM, we could at least talk about why, and wonder what it would be like if there were. Like I said, why do these cases happen mostly in Canada and the US, while all other catagories of episodes have occoured worldwide? This is a topic that could make great conversation. Could you imagine UM profiling fugitives from interpol? If we all want new episodes that much we should all get to our word processors and type letters of intent and send them to either's UM's HQ or a network. This kind of action has been talked about before. Opal 08-31-2005, 11:55 PM What about the Sarah Powell case; Where the pretty young girl woke up bound and gagged and couldn't recall what had happened and then she had visions of her attackers climbing through her bedroom window later. Her house was ransacked but nothing was stolen and it was raining outside yet no footprints were found... I vaguely remember that. No footprints??? PerhapsItsYou 09-05-2005, 06:41 PM According to the Lifetime episode guide, Sarah Powell, the girl who woke up to a ransacked house segement, will be on tomorrow, September 6th. Opal 09-06-2005, 01:57 AM Have we ever discussed the case of the teenager that was raped and then murdered in a graveyard? It was really terrifying to hear the details. It's one of the scariest things I could ever imagine. It was a newer segment -- I think 2001 (but not sure). I can only imagine how freaky the reenactment would have been if it was done during the early NBC years! I don't think I'd be able to watch it then! To my knowledge, the case is still unsolved. :( mikem7715 09-06-2005, 08:15 AM Is that the one where she was mutilated and police suspected satan worshipers or acult? The segment actually first aired on CBS in 1999, but wasn't rerun on Lifetime until 2001 (along with Lifetime's first-run segments). I recall having mentioned a link related to the case, and if my memory is correct, it featured some photos of Foster Chapel Cemetary, where she ended up dead. Opal 09-06-2005, 03:15 PM Is that the one where she was mutilated and police suspected satan worshipers or acult? Um... don't think so. She was raped in a car, I think -- and then she ran from the car and into a cemetary to hide. They ran after her and killed her. So sad :( I can't even imagine her terror. PerhapsItsYou 09-06-2005, 05:11 PM refering to Rachael Runyon, the girl in Utah. I had to read the post twice myself. george ramos 09-07-2005, 08:19 PM What about the twin who claimed his brother was the one who did the robbery which sent him to prison? Geraldo did an interview with both of them. The twin is still in prison. MetalHybrid 09-07-2005, 09:06 PM 1.Shelley Malone's Racehorse and the supposed trampeling she recieved. 2.Timothy Cooms and the Freemen. 3.Lynn Plaskett (I think that was her last name) who died on a bed fire after drinking. She did not smoke but a smoldering cig was the cause of the blaze. 4.Frances Buhay, the e-mail bandit whose e-mails say he looks forward to killing cops(this was a local story in my area that I forgot to mention earlier). 5.Guy obsessed over a licence plate winds up shooting Dick Hanson. 6.Yama****a's Treasure(golden buddha filled with daimonds). 7.Electric Lady segment from the Psychics set(similar story to Tina Roesh, which we should discuss again). 8.Theraputic touch. 9.Rebecca Young's murder in a sugar cane field, seen by a reluctant witness. 10.Curse of the Pharoah Okay this looks enough for now. When I have time I will list more. Opal 09-07-2005, 09:41 PM 9.Rebecca Young's murder in a sugar cane field, seen by a reluctant witness. Oh, I remember that! It happened in Florida, right?? The witness only spoke SPanish (if I'm remembering correctly) -- and he called the police with info, but never actually came forward. MetalHybrid 09-07-2005, 11:35 PM Oh, I remember that! It happened in Florida, right?? The witness only spoke SPanish (if I'm remembering correctly) -- and he called the police with info, but never actually came forward. Right. It happened sometime in may or march of 1991 near Miami in a town called Belle Glade. The man was thought to be Cuban, and even those who were fluent in spanish had trouble understanding him. Glass Joe 09-15-2005, 08:13 PM Does anyone remember the case about the busdriver lady who kept getting threating letters, and I think was shot? Does anyone remember this story? And more about it, and what season? Opal 09-16-2005, 12:45 AM Does anyone remember the case about the busdriver lady who kept getting threating letters, and I think was shot? Does anyone remember this story? And more about it, and what season? I believe you're referring to "The Circleville Letters". This is taken from DarkDante's description (taken from this thread: CLICK (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=144740&page=1))..... In 1976 the residents of Circleville, Ohio began receiving strange letters detailing personal information about its recipients. One of the first victims was a school bus driver named Mary Gillespie. The letter writer alleged that Gillespie was having an affair with a school official. Soon after the Circleville Letter writer turned violent and was suspected in the murder of Mary's husband and the attempted murder of Mary herself. In a bizarre twist it was determined that the lead suspect in the case was Mary's brother in law Paul Freshour. Freshour was later convicted of the crime all the while proclaiming his innocence. After serving a ten year sentence Freshour was released - During his imprisonment Freshour was kept in solitary confinement and yet the letters continued to arrive at the homes of various Circleville residents and several letters were even sent to Freshour himself while he was in prison. To this day the identity of "The Circleville Letter writer" remains an elusive mystery. CanadianUMFan 08-25-2007, 03:13 AM I just saw a case today about a couple in their forties in California (I think). The husband (named Hugh I think) liked working for the sake of working - they showed him unloading fish - while the wife was said to have liked the couple's dogs more than her husband. The wife also fed the husband dog food on occasion although the husband wasn't aware that it was dog food. Anyway, the wife was found dead in November of 1982 after being strangled with a dog leash. The husband was the prime suspect but no charges were ever laid and then he went missing in 1986. Does this case sound familiar to anyone? I believe that it aired in the 1993-94 season. Anyone have an update on this? The segment aired on the same episode as the Larry Costine case. kamy 08-27-2007, 01:41 PM What about the Sarah Powell case; Where the pretty young girl woke up bound and gagged and couldn't recall what had happened and then she had visions of her attackers climbing through her bedroom window later. Amnesia/memory lapse is a very convienent way to get out of anything. If it really happened, she had something to do with it. Just my opinion........ kamy 08-27-2007, 01:45 PM I just saw a case today about a couple in their forties in California (I think). I'm not sure whether he met with foul play, I half think he just left. I don't know of any update though. Corky Kneivel 08-27-2007, 05:18 PM A few I haven't seen discussed and wonder if there are updates on: The Pittsburgh fella who was going to a fishing outing in the early AM and sideswiped another car on the highway. When both drivers got out of their cars, the driver of the Champaign Mazda struck the guy and shot him a coupl eof times. He later died while in surgery. He told the story to his wife and the cops but they didn't even have enough info to issue a sketch of the suspect. The Los Angeles police officer, he trained other policemen on driving techniques, who was murdered upon entering his home after a day out with his family. An anonymous caller to the LAPD said they could identify the shooter but hung up and never called back with the info. The circumstances of this case are really odd. If I recall correctly: the officer was shot after carrying his sleeping son into the house, up the stairs, and then putting him into bed. He was surprised at the top of the stairs. The wife goes inside to inspect the sound of the gunshot(s?) and upon finding her husband lying there dead runs out of the house screaming, grabbing the child still in the car and hightailing it to a neighbors. The North Dakota man who was crushed to death at work in either: a suicide, an accident, or a murder (as his wife contends). He died amid strong accusations that he had abducted (they had yet to find her body) a local woman and one time co-worker. Her body was eventually found on a company's property (I'm unsure if was his or her place of employment) and she was, in fact, murdered. I've heard of no DNA result or the status of this case. The EAR/ONS. I know there is no conclusion to this case as of yet and that there is very little information available on this criminal, but I'm sort of surprised that the case, and/or the segment, isn't discussed more. Having done as much research about the case as I have in the past year, I was really surprised to see how brief and mild the UM segment was. I was expecting a much more frightening and creepy handling of the subject matter. One case I can just barely remember...a young man dating a young woman from a "troubled" family was found dead at a car accident after leaving a party being thrown at her house. His death was considered a suicide. It was contended that he had driven erratically and with increasing speed before ultimately swerving towards a tree. However there was some evidence to support that he was knifed (or shot?) by some of her relatives at the party and was frantically trying to drive himself to saftey when he crashed. This all happened in the late 60's-mid 70's or so and the decedant was a tall, muscularly built guy wth horn rimmed glasses. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I think that this was the case of Leroy Dreith, whose sister was trying to find out what happened. It was in the early sixties, IIRC, and the girlfriend was a Hispanic girl named Patty. It happened in Colorado. I believe that Leroy's death was ruled an auto suicide (as in automobile), and that there had only been 2-3 other deaths that were auto suicides in all of CO. Those others were ruled auto suicide only after extensive investigation, but Leroy's death was called auto suicide almost immediately by the coroner, leading his sister to later suspect a cover-up. I can't believe I remember all of this! I've recently been watching through old UMs that I have TIVO'd (and having a blast :D ), which is why this one stuck in my memory. Yep, that is the one. Man...you guys come through like champs yet again! Normally I have a tremendous suspicion of any UM segments featuring family members insisting their loved one's suicide was actually a murder; and not only a murder, but a murder made to look "suicidey". Usually their claims ring hollow for me and while I empathize with their suffering I just feel like their letting emotion cloud proper judgement. With this case, however, she didn't think it was rigged up to look like a suicide, the family contends that it was viewed as a suicide because some spectator at the scene exclaimed "I think he killed himself" and that was the investigator's POV from then on. crystaldawn 08-28-2007, 04:11 PM Yep, that is the one. And of course the officials involved will either refuse to be interviewed or if they have the balls to be interviewed they are evasive as hell. Watch the segments on these and tell me if they all seem to have that in common: Keith Warren - Arrogant Montogmery County, MD cops refused to budge on this case. And who was the sicko in the police department who sent the crime scene pics to the family? Tommy Burkett - The Fairfax County, VA cop who was interviewed seemed to 'squirm'. The DEA connection should have been explored further. Tony Lombardi - Why was Tony's friend ignored by the Westerville cops? Come on! Suicide because of a DUI rap? Please! I'd say the love triangle thingy is what did Tony in. Rae Ann Mossor - Most aggravating of them all simply because the evidence screams MURDER! Big-time coverup here. Of course, this IS Virginia! You know, HyeTev, that case always bugged me a LOT because of how it happened and the fact that someone is obviously taunting the family. There is soooo much messed up with that case. I can't imagine the poor mom opening those pics up. That is just sick. And then the other kid in the case dieing the way he did... There is obviously more to that story and people who know. As a parent, I think that would probably drive me insane, knowing people just walking the streets knew what happened but keeping their mouths shut. The weird death cases that I would LOVE to see solved are Keith Warren, Jeffrey Digman, and the one about the 8th grade kid who got beat up and later died (I can't remember his name but when they found him he was calling out a friend's name and then the witness saw a kid scamper away). I think his girlfriend's family killed him. From having just watched the segment, I was left to wonder if the coroner can tell with any certainty when the puncture and slash wounds on his neck were made. Is it possible that his neck was puncture and/or slashed by something inside the car on impact? I would agree the likelihood here is that Drieth was murdered, but slashing his throat at a family BBQ? In front of witnesses? And children? I mean, these must have been some cold-blooded or stupid people. Or both.
