Okay, a friend and I were debating on this. Emoticons are the alpha-numeric characters that look like facial expressions (such as ;-) ), AND smileys are the actual php face-looking images like this ----> :) . He calls the :) image as an emoticon, but I told him it wasn't and is a smiley. Haha... Who's right and who's wrong?

according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticons), an emoticon, also called a smiley, is a sequence of printable characters such as :), ^-^, or :-) or a small image that is intended to represent a human facial expression and convey an emotion. personally I dont think it matters either...
