And, if you attended both, which did you prefer?? vienna waits 08-21-2005, 04:40 PM public high school private college Brian 08-21-2005, 04:44 PM I attended a public school until I started at a private school from 8th to 12th grade. I found it loads better than a public school for a few reasons. 1. My private school had only 8-15 students in a class while the public schools had at least 30. 2. My private school had teachers and staff members that were better at addressing my special needs than those at the public schools. 3. I got to do stuff that I would have never been able to do in a public high school, which was play for the softball team without getting cut (I was on the wrestling team in 6th grade, though), work on the school newspaper and yearbook, and become student body president. slackermonkey 08-21-2005, 05:17 PM Public elementary school, private middle and high schools, public college. I do have to say I prefer the learning environment of private schools better, with the exception of the unnecessary rules and restrictions. robyrob 08-21-2005, 05:43 PM public. you shoulda made this a POLL! - and included the HOME-SCHOOLED option Southern Hellraiser 08-21-2005, 05:45 PM Public School I'd want to be in a public college. Brian Damage 08-21-2005, 05:53 PM I've attended both and my money is on private school. For all the reasons Brian addressed. Mijada 08-21-2005, 06:05 PM I attended public schools and colleges. My children will definitely be going to private school though. My husband and I already discussed that for the reasons Brian already mentioned. I didn't care for the other two private schools. Crimson and Clover 08-21-2005, 07:24 PM public Nighthawk76 08-21-2005, 07:33 PM I went to public schools my entire life. I was quite happy to have attended public schools. I never had any desire to go to a private school. Me too. At least in New York, on average, you'll get a better education at a public school over a private school, seeing that the teachers at public schools must have their masters degrees, while private schools can have any random person teach their classes. In January we took the English regents, which I received a 97 on (highest grade in the school), while the nearby private school had no grades over an 80. dawsongirl 08-21-2005, 09:13 PM Public School all the way. Wouldn't have changed a thing. I live in a state where the public schools are actually good. dawsongirl 08-21-2005, 09:15 PM Me too. My cousin spent her first 6 or 7 grades in private (perochial) school, and honestly, I don't think she learned a damn thing. I went to public school and I was 13th in my class on 395. barwars 08-21-2005, 09:20 PM My cousin spent her first 6 or 7 grades in private (perochial) school, and honestly, I don't think she learned a damn thing. I went to public school and I was 13th in my class on 395. Ohh, yeah, I just want to clarify that I meant perochial schools. There is one private school around here that isn't Catholic, but they use a completely different testing system, so you can't really equally compare between it and other schools. YoliUSA 08-21-2005, 10:18 PM I have attended private schools all my life. Viviana 08-21-2005, 10:33 PM Which did you attend? And, if you attended both, which did you prefer?? I like Public School, Private schools have too many rules. I got used to public schools and the rules are not so strict. My friend goes to private school and she HAS to be right on time cuz if she's late more than three times she get detention. And plus, I hate the uniforms also. ;) Mr. Television 08-21-2005, 10:50 PM I like Public School, Private schools have too many rules. I got used to public schools and the rules are not so strict. If we were late once we got detention. Ireneparalegal 08-22-2005, 12:06 AM Ohh, yeah, I just want to clarify that I meant perochial schools. There is one private school around here that isn't Catholic, but they use a completely different testing system, so you can't really equally compare between it and other schools. I am confused abt your catholic school statement. Are you stating that catholic schools can hire just any ol body to be a teacher? I hope that is not what you are saying. CollegeDropout 08-22-2005, 12:30 AM I went to a private nursery school...then public till college and now im going to a private college...but most people in my town only go to privet schools for atheletics or they need the special attention. The suburb I live in is known for its public schools, one of the best in the states, so if you take the higher level courses they are comprable to private schools, so its a waste of 150,000 or however much, we have kids going off to IVY schools, NESCEA or w/e conference the bowdions/bates are in, a bunch got into BC (woot woot), a few Wake forest, I'm not trying to come off as pompous and brag, but in some situations you really dont need to spend all that money on private schools Viviana 08-22-2005, 12:38 AM Public schools must have really changed over the years. If we were late once we got detention. WoAh  Yeah they must have, maybe they thought it was too mean that way, lol ;) vienna waits 08-22-2005, 12:40 AM aren't all nursey schools/pre-schools private? sara 08-22-2005, 01:38 AM I went to a parochial school for K-8th grade and I went to public high school. I prefered the parochial school. Going from a school with 75 student total, to a school with over 400 in my class alone, was quite tramatic. I felt like a fish out of water. Brian 08-22-2005, 02:43 AM Public schools must have really changed over the years. If we were late once we got detention. That is how it was at my middle school. If you didn't make it in your seat before the bell rang, you would serve a detention. If you called someone a name, you would get a "Name-Calling Infraction Slip" and serve detention. There were other things that would warrant an Infraction Slip and a detention such as PDAs (public displays of affection), chewing gum, and stuff. The private school that I went to was more relaxed. You could chew gum, they didn't have a policy about wearing hats in class, there were no strict rules. The only exception was during my 12th grade year, when students were required to wear shirts with collars. I had no objection to it but most other students did. I didn't see what the big deal was. Raven-Symone 08-22-2005, 02:46 AM I went to public school all my life. dawsongirl 08-22-2005, 03:22 AM aren't all nursey schools/pre-schools private? I think our public school system has preschools. But they may just be for kids whose parents can't afford to send them to a regular preschool. SBTB Geek 08-22-2005, 03:43 AM Pre-K-12: public University: private I prefer public education for several reasons. TJL 08-22-2005, 04:59 AM Private High School Not so great State College. barwars 08-22-2005, 08:34 AM I am confused abt your catholic school statement. Are you stating that catholic schools can hire just any ol body to be a teacher? I hope that is not what you are saying. Catholic school teachers don't need a MA, whereas public school teachers are given five years to earn it, or they're out. MissZero 08-22-2005, 10:34 AM I attend public school and I love it. My sister attended private school up until the end of 5th grade and then went to public school..for her private school was a terrible experience marmalade 08-22-2005, 11:23 AM State school, mainstreamed to public. They were both crappy. :( Moonlight Lady 08-22-2005, 11:26 AM Public School: K-12 I liked it. PZelda 08-22-2005, 11:54 AM Public schools must have really changed over the years. If we were late once we got detention. Not so. I was in school til a few years ago and if I was late once, I got detention. I once got detention for being a measly 5 seconds late. Thank god that was at the deaf school...I only had 20 mins of detention that day and if that was at the public middle school I went to, you got 1/2 hour. At the HS, it would be THREE HOURS. omg: I didn't attend any private schools, but everybody else in my family did, my parents and both siblings. They all went to Catholic grade schools- my sibs went to the same one my mom went to that was K-6, but my dad went to a different one that was K-8. My parents got a great education at their schools, but my sibs HATED Catholic school...so my brother only went up til he finished 5th grade and my sis went til 3rd grade (they left the same year, in 1991). I did, however, attend a residental school (the deaf school) as a day student (meaning I didn't live in the dorms and lived in a place off-campus with my mom), and I DO NOT recommend residental schools! That's 11 years of my life I'll never have back. MaydayMalonesGirl 08-22-2005, 12:59 PM All public school for me so far. I'd like to go to a private high school, but it'd be hard for my family to swing money-wise. MissZero 08-22-2005, 01:30 PM in our school u get late slips..i think if u get three u get detention or ISS...im not sure exactly how it works marmalade 08-22-2005, 02:48 PM I did, however, attend a residental school (the deaf school) as a day student (meaning I didn't live in the dorms and lived in a place off-campus with my mom), and I DO NOT recommend residental schools! That's 11 years of my life I'll never have back. That's what I did, only it was the blind school, and they mainstreamed us from the eighth grade through high school. BoscoGal 08-22-2005, 05:15 PM I attended a private elementary and middle school and I now go to a public high school. I prefer the public school much better; I feel free to do what I want and the teachers seem much nicer. In public school, all my teachers stay after for help everyday, but in private school, they never did. Defenitley public!! :) TheHappyBurgerMeister 08-22-2005, 05:21 PM I have always went to private school. I went to a preschool at a church. Then from pre-K to 8th grade I went to a private school (lutheran) and then I went to a lutheran high school. The only time I went to a public school was when I took a few classes at a local technical college in my city. Courtnee 08-22-2005, 05:23 PM I've only gone to public so... theshark8777 08-22-2005, 05:50 PM Public. Like 5 different districts... :( cralappyhappy4 08-22-2005, 06:40 PM I go to public school it sucks but i wouldnt want to go to a private school...school starts on wednesday and all of our secretaries, janitors, and teacher aids are on strike that should be fun :) TV DVD Fan 08-22-2005, 07:00 PM I hated my last three years in Public JH. I'm starting a Catholic school on the twelfth and I really enjoy it so far. It operates like one big second family. pat Rachel3118 08-25-2005, 12:48 PM I go to public. I don't think I would want to go to private but I don't know since I've never been. |
