I don't think Wendy's was serving chili back in those days. It's been around for only the last ten years, I believe.

We got our Wendy's in the late 70's. It used to have that Victorian decor the chain had years ago.

They made the chili sound so bad on the show that it was almost irresistable to me to jump through the TV screen and eat a mess of it.

I bet since it was Pheonix, that chili was EXCEPTIONALLY HOT...if that is the case, while I would LOVE to try to eat it just for the memories it would give me of seeing all those folks at the diner, I'd have to pass...;)

It was REALLY good, they just liked to tease him about his food! It was commented several times it was the BEST chili in town and it's what made him "what he was in the restraunt" business,,,if THAT was anything:)

When I was little Mel's Diner always looked like a SEAFOOD restaurant to me,,I guess just b/c of the sea symbols from the navy and Mel wearing a "captain-like" hat.

Yeah, it looks like Mel's specialty could've been fish and chips. Wasn't his character originally from the east? I thought when Martha Raye came on she flew in from New York or someplace across the country.

Yeah we have a Captain D's where I live and a LOT of the decorations look like the one's in Mel's Diner.

Mel was from Ney York I think.
