View Full Version : Is this normal?
okay im 16 and its the summer-now my moms home all the time since she doesnt have a job anymore and this is the first summer with her home. okay now heres where the problem starts-i go to bed at 4 or 3 and i wake up at noon- i dont see the reason for waking up early because its summer-which is of course the only time to relax. my mom says that im not normal and i should get ouf of the house and go places which i understand but she wants me to wake up at 9 and go to bed at about 11:30. but i keep telling her im a teenager and its the summer and im supposed to be able to sleep late and go on the internet and watch tv all day if i want to....what do you think? is it normal? and you people better respond cause i took a lot of time writing this :p
Superstar 08-11-2005, 04:13 PM my mom is like that, she doesn't want me sitting at the computer all day and she's always telling me to get off it. She says that its not normal either, that other kids are always outside and blah blah blah. Lately she hasn't really said anything about it to me.
i know! all i wanna do is relax and go on the internet- i wake up at 6:30am during school-why cant i just stay up and wake up late during the summer!?

exactly, my parents think that I come on here and I'm bored, but I usually come on here because I am bored and the internet is fun to me

Yeah...Same here too.
But obviously although it may be a bit abnormal, there are many of us.
barwars 08-11-2005, 04:44 PM I think you may end up regreting spending so much time online. I mean, not that I should talk, but I always enjoy my time out of the house much more than when I'm at home. At the end of the summer, you'll think back and wish you did more.... not "ahh damn, I should have been online more this summer"
Anyways, the sleeping schedule you've got isn't bad. Tell your mom it's too hot in the morning to be awake, and the cool air at night is more comfortable for you. I figure, if you sleep for around eight hours, it shouldn't matter when you do it.
lol at the end of the summer i always think "damn i didnt get enough sleep" and i dont want that to happen this year- but i should tell my mom about the sleeping thing-maybe shed get off my back if i did
AllIWantIsYourClutch 08-11-2005, 04:48 PM My mom is like that too. The thing is, I'm having tons of problems with friends and stuff and she keeps bothering me to go out and do stuff with people other than those who used to be my best friends. She doesn't understand how hard that is, but whatever. She's constantly telling me to get off the computer, yet I sit here every day. I've done nothing social this summer.
moeee 08-11-2005, 05:07 PM I would rather be on the computer than being out in the streets, which is trouble.
YoliUSA 08-11-2005, 05:29 PM My mom doesn't really complain about me being in the internet, and sleeping and watching TV all the time. She tells me to go outside once in a while, but since I don't have a lot of neighbors around my age and the ones that are my age are drinking and doing bad things, I prefer to stay inside :)

you are soo lucky your mom doesnt nag you about that. but anywho i tried to tell them that im a teenager and i just wanna sleep but my dad told me to shutup and stop saying that lol
Titania 08-11-2005, 05:48 PM i think its normal enough.
ive always been a morning person...but you are a teenager and its summer and you only have so many years left where youre not going to have responsibilities and have to get up for work or anything. i say take advantage of the extra sleep and do-nothing time.
maybe think about going outside every so often though. ;)
TripperFan 08-11-2005, 05:50 PM Actually I agree with barwars. I was like you, would stay up all hours of the night (always have been a nightowl), but would wake up at maybe 11:30 or noon and would get out of the house for a few hours at least. Actually, I was rarely at home - just to eat and sleep, but that of course, was before the internet.
It is summer - get out and enjoy! You can still always have tons of hours online in the nighttime. That's usually when the board is the most active anyway.
I found by changing my sleeping habits so extremely - it would really be rough when school did start getting back into the pattern of going to bed early and worse, getting up so early.
Warm & Fuzzy 08-11-2005, 06:00 PM I think it's pretty normal... when I was your age (haha, I make myself sound so old. :p), I stayed up till 8am, sometimes..... or maybe I just won't sleep. I'm anti-social, as aresult, tho, so I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not. :o
lol well i think you are all right and i should get out of the house and do something- maybe ill go to a bookstore or the mall or something- i guess i should kinda compromise with my mom-if she lets me sleep late then i will go somewhere with her but just not at 9 in the morning lol next year when i have a car i probably wont be at home at all lol
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-11-2005, 06:25 PM bleh, my parents say the same thing. I sleep even later than 12

lol my mom gets mad if i sleep past nine, if i slept past 12 shed probaby take me to a doctor (she always assumes im sick if i sleep late) lol
Rachel3118 08-11-2005, 07:17 PM My mom makes me go to bed around 12 and she complains about me sleeping in to 10. It would be fun to stay up late in the summer but I always have to go to bed early. At least I have a portable dvd player so I can watch that in my room after she makes me go to bed.
robyrob 08-11-2005, 07:33 PM yep you're normal... but so is your mom. Actually you're pretty lucky your mom isn't telling you to get up off your lazy butt and get a job - that's what mine did.
:p

lol im afraid that will be her next step
MsOrange 08-11-2005, 11:08 PM your a freak. go to sleep.
jk :) your both normal... give me a mom that hasn't told their kid they need to go to bed and get out more (of course I realize now that every other member will not reply "UH HUH my mom is so cool", so an early advance to that special someone... you don't count)
TheHappyBurgerMeister 08-11-2005, 11:14 PM Hey, it's SUMMER and you're only 16 so I think you should be able to relax. Just as long as you get back into your regular schedule once school starts! :)
I'm kind of in the same situation as you, except I'm 21! Well, I have pretty much the same sleeping schedule as you, but my mom doesn't care because she stays up really late too. It's OTHER people who think I'm crazy for sleeping those hours (my grandma, neighbors, etc!) It drives me nuts because I DO work a job (second shift and I love the hours) and I LIKE to stay up late. Apparently to some people don't think it's normal unless you sleep "regular" hours from 11 pm to 7am or whatever.

Also, It doesn't matter WHEN you sleep. The only thing to worry about is how LONG someone sleep. If you went to sleep at 4 and got up at noon, that's 8 hours of sleep. Now, if you went to sleep at like 10 pm or midnight- now that would be a problem. Who cares WHEN you sleep as long as you get your 8 hours! :)
