We live in such a PC world today, I am surprised that no one from the N.A.A.C.P. is organising a boycott of the Dukes of Hazzards movie because of the Confiderate flag on the car.

I am not african american, but I could see african americans being offended by it. Personally, I don't think that flag represents racism. It is just a flag of a short lived country. The buring crosses by the K.K.K. is another story. Still I could see african americans being offended.

I think it represents more than just a short-lived country. It represents a rebellious nation that didn't want to stay with the Union. I can see how it represents racism on some level.

That's one reason I'm boycotting it. The other reason I'm doing it is because they shouldn't do remakes of classic shows such as "The Dukes of Hazzard" and casting actors and actresses that aren't very good.

A boycott of the movie over the Confederate flag is ridiculous. Most people down south do not use the flag as a symbol of racism. I'm sure that when most people see the Confederate flag in the movie, given the movie's context, they don't think "racism". It's just a symbol of Southern identity. Some people may use it as a racist symbol, just in the same way some use the Christian cross as a racist or anti-semitic symbol.

well, it shows just how much more sensitive the nation has gotten in 25 years. In the early 80's, we all had Dukes Of Hazzard toys, us as little kids thought nothing about the flag on top of their car, it was just some design, and yet now it's that the Dukes are Klansmen.

When I see someone with a Confederate Flag on their car (I like in northern KY, where there's some, and some who aren't), first thing I think is "these guys are white trash", but remember that Bo and Luke Duke were supposed to be rebels (in a good way) and the confederates were rebellious (though not in a good way). If the show was set in NYC and they still had the Confederate Flag on their car, it'd be a completely different story.

He loves those shirts like Garth Brooks wears - bold, bright, etc.. One of the shirts he grabbed had the Confederate design on it. We both just liked it because it looked "Americanish" (if that's a term :lol: ) and looked good on him.

Well we got tons of stares at the airport in Orlando and just chalked it up to him looking pretty good in it. :lol: It wasn't until we got on an elevator with a couple of black guys back in Canada and they just GLARED at us and started whispering. That's when I did a couple of googles and found out what it could represent! We just about died. :eek:

He said he still wanted to wear it because it was just a nice looking shirt to him, but I begged him not to - it's o.k. though - I fattened him up enough that within about 6 months he COULDN'T wear it anymore! :lol:

I agree with you there! I find myself even getting a bit paranoid (like in my story). I don't want to offend anyone, and am not the least bit racist - just like the design of certain things.

I've even been criticized by an aborginal (Canada's equivalent to Native Americans) for wearing some jewelry and Indian style jackets though - I LOVE that stuff and even their culture - what's wrong with it? ('course this person was also a kook who grew up with Shania Twain and called her a "skank" - meanwhile, you should see THIS broad! :rolleyes: ) :lol:

As a white person from New York, I have no emotion connection to the flag one way or the other. But with what happened in the last presidental election, it is clear our nation is devided.

The movie has one offensive scene, alas, that doesn't belong in a contemporary comedy. Bo and Luke are involved in a mishap that causes their faces to be blackened with soot, and then, wouldn't you know, they drive into an African-American neighborhood, where their car is surrounded by ominous young men who are not amused by blackface, or by the Confederate flag painted on the car. I was hoping maybe the boyz n the hood would carjack the General, which would provide a fresh twist to the story, but no, the scene sinks into the mire of its own despond.

Good condition Chargers with those engines are selling for $20,000, $30,000, $50,000 and up (way up).
BTW, why would someone who posts photos of '50s and '60s VWs call Chargers "crude?" The '50s VWs didn't even have a gas gauge! And the '60s VWs had a joke of a "heater." They drew in warm air in from the engine compartment, so if there is an exhaust leak somewhere in the engine compartment, you get some nice carbon monoxide to breathe along with the air from the "heater."
And I have a road test of a '70 VW Bus... its pathetically slow engine took 44 seconds to go from 0-60 mph and it had a top speed of 65 mph! (A '68 Hemi-Charger could do 63 mph in first gear and 107 mph in second!)
