View Full Version : Keith is proof why you need an education
Ireneparalegal 08-04-2005, 12:22 PM Keith having hurt himself, okay, now he can't play football, but had he educated himself in the brain, he would have had something to fall back on. May not have been a million dollar a year job but it would have been better than driving a cab. He could have had a decent job elsewhere and then he and Thelma could have at least left the ghetto.
nerrad 08-04-2005, 01:19 PM How did he start driving that cab anyway? That was quite sudden. They never talked about him driving one.
Ireneparalegal 08-04-2005, 01:41 PM How did he start driving that cab anyway? That was quite sudden. They never talked about him driving one.
What do you mean? that was the job he ended doing as a way to support himself and the family.
nerrad 08-04-2005, 01:44 PM I mean he just appeared out of nowhere driving a cab.
Zions Mother 08-04-2005, 01:55 PM Keith had to have had an education. He was a pro football player. You weren't drafted out of high school.
Mr. Television 08-04-2005, 02:00 PM Keith had to have had an education. He was a pro football player. You weren't drafted out of high school.
That is true.

Yeah Zion I know that. But what I am saying is that he focused mostly on football in school obviously. It is typical especially in that era for guys to have been focusing on sports rather than their education and when they had a career ending injury, they had nothing to fall back on. I know that Keith went to school, college, whatever, but he WAS NOT EDUCATED. Do you get what I mean? Anyone can go to school, but not everyone gets educated. He should have had a back up plan for the day he could no longer play football. Had he maybe received a degree in accounting let's say, he could have used that skill in a city or town where he could have moved him and Thelma. It wouldn't have been the lifestyle of a million dollar football player, but it would have been better than the ghetto. Remember, that is what James always told him children. Get an education so your hands don't have to look like mine.

Well since they never mentioned what he majored in, it's hard to say. It was still a time when even with an education, it was hard for many blacks to obtain good jobs. Even today, having a degree, even if you've graduated with a high GPA, many (any race now) find it hard to land good jobs, let alone even in their field of study. I just think it's a stretch to say he wasn't educated. JMO
By the way, I got a response from TVLand. Do you want me to email it to you?

isiahthomas 09-06-2005, 12:59 PM My real name is Keith. I forgot that Keith got a job driving a taxi when he got hurt early during his pro football career. Education is definitely important & it's a shame that most black pro athletes don't have a career to fall back on if their careers end early or if they don't get drafted. That's exactly why the NBA now is about to have a rule that says you have to be 20 years old to get drafted because too many high school basketball players are getting drafted & they aren't ready for the NBA. Kwame Brown is a perfect example of that. He hasn't done sh*t since he's been in the league. All he did was make excuses when he was with the Washington Wizards about why he wasn't that good. Now he's gonna get another chance with the Lakers & i'm gonna see what's gonna be his excuse when he doesn't do well with them. For every Lebron James, there's a Kwame Brown LOL. Every high school player doesn't do well in the NBA & NBA scouts need to realize that.
hatwink 09-06-2005, 02:13 PM One of the main reasons Lebron is doing well is because he's physically built for the league. If not, then his chance of making it would have gone down.

You got that right. A 20 year old taking the league by storm like he is??

Usually when a athlete gets hurt, it's on the field, not walking with their wife on their wedding day-lol Poor Keith
nerrad 09-06-2005, 02:45 PM I still can't believe that he ruptured his entire leg by walking into JJ. And why was Keith mad. He should've watched where HE was going.

Well said Isiah. I have been saying that all along. So what, big deal, one makes it in sports, but that day is going to come, whether it's sooner or much later, when that education is going to be your cushion to fall back on. Look at Shaq. He finished college. Emmit Smith, promised his mom he would finish college, no matter what. He did. They made enough $$$ to last them for their lives, but imagine if they had that career-ending injury? Then what? Drive a cab like Keith!
isiahthomas 09-06-2005, 05:05 PM Michael Jordan drafted Kwame Brown as the first pick of the NBA draft when Jordan was the GM of the Wizards. Later on when Kwame wasn't doing nothin his first 2 years, Jordan called him a fa**ot LOL.
TVFactFan 09-06-2005, 05:45 PM I still can't believe that he ruptured his entire leg by walking into JJ. And why was Keith mad. He should've watched where HE was going.
He was mad because he tripped over a grown a$$ man-LOL Now if Keith had tripped over a child then it would have been different but the fact that a grown man was in the way, he was STEAMED!!!-lol
CCRYDER1968 09-06-2005, 08:59 PM Even he got a lame degree ,he could've gotten a job.Maybe a position with his university as an assitant coach or even a mid-level position with the pro-team he was on..
Keith was so lame! :D

Keith may have only played his freshman year and been drafted.

I had a previous post and I put the exact same thing. At least he could have had better options than driving a cab.
nerrad 09-07-2005, 08:47 AM Michael Jordan drafted Kwame Brown as the first pick of the NBA draft when Jordan was the GM of the Wizards. Later on when Kwame wasn't doing nothin his first 2 years, Jordan called him a fa**ot LOL.
 I have the book at home. Yeah MJ chewed him out during a practice. He had the young man in tears.
isiahthomas 09-07-2005, 05:21 PM LOL@Michael making Kwame cry hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Kwame was the first pick of the draft for christ sakes. Michael should've been on his case. Michael is a fierce competitor & he wants to win badly. If he sees that guys around him don't have the same attitude he does towards winning, he's gonna let them know about it. I think that's one of the reasons why old ass Wizards owner Abe Pollin fired Michael from his job as GM because the players were complaining to Abe that Michael was being hard on them. These guys are making millions of dollars a year. Why shouldn't Michael have been hard on them? Michael has the right to be hard on any player because he's won 6 championships & he's accomplished so many things in his career that these guys will never accomplish. He's the greatest NBA player of all time to me.
Ireneparalegal 09-13-2005, 12:47 AM He was mad because he tripped over a grown a$$ man-LOL Now if Keith had tripped over a child then it would have been different but the fact that a grown man was in the way, he was STEAMED!!!-lol
The way he ran down the aisle didn't help him either!!!! LOL
