anyone been in a wedding or planned a wedding? If so, got any bridesmaid dresses horror stories? or dresses that you absolutley loved?

reason i'm asking is i'm very torn on what color to choose--I can't seem to decide. I think i'm going to do is pick the color, and let the bridesmaid pick the dress that fits them best and that they feel most comfy in. But I can't pick a damn color! Any suggestions and/or stories?

I've been a bridesmaid in a couple weddings. One was a cobalt blue (that I still have and use for dances) and the other one was green. I haven't worn it since. It's nice and all but not my color.

I've been lucky...the dresses never have been that bad.

I used Colbalt Blue and a purplie-royal blue for the matron of honour for a May wedding.

When is the wedding Melissa - (season) - you could tie in some autumn colours if its in the fall (depending on the skintones and hair colour of your bridesmaids).

Just stay away from cream. A girlfriend of mine went with that, and in pictures they're outfits showed up just as white as the brides!!

the wedding is in March... i'm thinking about an apple color, like this:

That is nice - and rich in colour for that time of the year. Should also go well with any skintone or haircolour. Flowers will be easy to coordinate too - actually, calla-lilies would go beautifully.

Also, it's a colour and style they can wear again - doesn't scream "bridesmaid".

Hopefully you won't have a matron of honour who decides to restyle the dress before the wedding (on her own) like my "scum-in-law" did! Bitch cut a full-length gown to just below her knees so she could wear it somewhere else! I couldn't believe it!

Oh the stories I could tell you about this twit! We had to postpone the wedding and I asked both girls (I only had two), if they would mind just hanging onto the dresses and accessories I had bought for them until we could reschedule. She felt she had the right because it was longer than six months. Meanwhile, if anything, we could have survived if it has been the bridesmaid and not matron-of-honour who did it. The craziest thing is that I designed the dresses myself (for heavier girls) and it needed the length to balance the look - once it was cut, it looked like absolute garbage!

ohno: some people just don't get it!

that's one of the reasons why i'm letting the bridesmaid pick their own style... i don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, so i want them to wear what they want (within reason, of course). But they will obey the color

 BE TOUGH Girl!

That's why I had their input when I was designing the dresses! I wanted something they would both like, and that I'd like too - that looked appropriate for their sizes (one was about 185 lbs. and the scum-in-law was pushing 300 lbs). They also had input on the colour even. I did everything I could to please both of them (another reason I kept the number to two) and she still screwed me. Meanwhile, you ought to see the ridiculous way she dressed me for her wedding! I was SOOOO embarrassed to wear it but didn't say anything and went along with everything she wanted. No wonder we don't even speak to each other anymore!

That's great you're letting them choose their styles. I personally wouldn't allow that. I know the bride is always the most beautiful person at her wedding, but it would be a cold day in hell that I'd let my bridesmaids wear sexy or revealing dresses.

I wouldn't put them in the ugly puffy deals, but I would decide what they would wear. It would be something elegant and very stylish, but no low fronts or backs or anything in between. On my wedding day, only I stood out.

I would have to really trust my bridesmaids to allow them to pick the styles.

I thought the IDEA of bridemaids dresses was to MAKE them look like crap, so the bride winds up looking like a princess among the paupers???? ( Sarcasm here gals )

 That's true with some brides, most definitely. I would never want my bridesmaids to look hideous, but no way are they going to wear these incredibly sexy dresses either. I have a friend, who back in our 20s, if given the opportunity, would have worn a scene stealing dress at my wedding. And she was gorgeous...an absolute dead-ringer for a young Susan Lucci. Now I was hot myself (sorry, true), but no way was I letting anyone upstage me.

Elegant and stylish is the way to dress the bridesmaids. Also, it's best to have a style that is flattering to all figures, petite, medium and plus size.

my dream dress!!!!!!!!!

haha...... no

and when i say i am letting them pick the style, mind you, all my bridesmaids are very conservative, like myself, so if they choose my wedding as the time to become brazen they've got anyother thing coming! Main reason i'm letting them pick there on is all 3 of them are different shapes and sizes and i don't want anyone feeling uncomfy

Everyone is too funny. Of all the weddings that I have been in, I have loved all of the dresses. The only problem I had is one wedding with the dyeable shoes from a Northern store that I don't think exists any longer "Bakers". They were poorly made shoes, cheap, and they killed my feet. Never again. Whenever the dresses are floor length, we all wear the same color shoe, but our own style. Which is the only thing I will agree too because I'm very particular when it comes to shoes and my feet. Grandma always said, take care of your teeth and your feet. :) I won't wear shoes that I can't wear all day. I hate to see women taking their shoes off because they hurt.

Whenever there are more than 4 bridesmaides, it's best for the bride to pick the dress and color, otherwise, my experience is nothing but havock between the bridesmaides. You will find that the very one who doesn't need to be wearing a form fitting or strapless dress will be the one wanting too. And she will be in your wedding looking a "HOT MESS"

Usually the bride picks a maid or matron of honor who can help her with the decision.

Yes the bride will outshine everyone but you want the bridesmaides to at least compliment you.

I forgot my brothers wedding two years ago, that dress was awful. I started to give it to Zion, he was about 3 mo old at the time, and let him chew and tear it up. Instead my little niece took it and used the material for baby doll clothes. In this case, my brothers Mother in law to be had no taste, tried to run the whole show, wouldn't listen to anyone, and the dresses were not meant for a bunch of busty woman.

Zion's Mother -

I've lived those scenarios too! And both my bridesmaids were big girls! Thankfully the strapless jobs weren't popular ten years ago!!

I'm picturing Zion going nuts ripping the dress apart!

I ended up using mine to loan to a girlfriend for Halloween. She gave it back and said that the zipper broke and was willing to have it repaired for me - I told her no thanks - if anything, she did me a huge favour - now I didn't feel so bad about using it to line the bottom of a bird cage!

well heres the thing:

My maid of honor is my best bud Dana-very conservative and very understanding to the fact that this is not a cat show.
My two bridesmaid's are jonathan's sisters: Brittany and Hannah. Brittany has already said that she doesn't think the bridesmaids should ever wear spagetti strap b/c it might take away from the bride: she wants to wear a thick strapped floor length dress, so I have nothing to worry about her. Hannah, bless her heart, is 13 years old and weighs 255 lbs (she's doing her best...we're diet buddies! :eat:  ) very conservative. That's one of the reasons I want them to pick their own dresses: Brittany and Dana are not big at all, and what feels comfy on them might not feel comfy on Hannah, and vice versa. So that's my reasoning behind letting them pick their own styles.

But trust, me I HAVE VETO POWER!

The only reason why Zion didn't have a good time working those sharp baby teeth was because his grandma while  herself, said you better not, Zion may then think it's ok to do that to any of your clothes. Girl, we were laughing until we were crying when I put my dress on. My crazy nephews would not let up on me. They were snapping pictures like mad.

It was a hilarious scene. My sisters brother in law was laughing his a$$ off anxious to take pictures of me walking down the aisle while I had to hold my bouquet right under my chest just to keep it up. Then my escort, my 6'7 nephew, stepped on the back of my gown at the reception and all I can say is that was almost a Janet Jackson episode for me
