View Full Version : Well what does everyone think of Golden Palace??
GeorgiaboyJeff! 08-01-2005, 07:03 PM Well I just got through watching it. The episode I watched was ok. Even though there was no Dorothy, it was pretty fun to watch since I've never seen Golden Palace so everything is sort of like new episodes for me. It seemed like they made Rose dumber so far on this show. LOL at the guy with the ski mask & the gun & Rose thought he just had the mask on for a fashion statement lol!
MikeLutton 08-01-2005, 07:10 PM i thought it was funny i missed it but lifetime edited the part out where Rose calls the police and shows she is finally getting smart then ask the Number for 911 lol.
i liked when cheech returned said im back and sophia said Dorthy lol.

IMO, I think Rose is a bit smarter in this season. You have to admit it. She managed to get the guy in the ski mask out of the hotel but neglected to dial 9 but instead she dials 4 which still makes for great comedy. I loved how she said. "Who's this? Just a woman whose not as stupid as everyone thinks she is." Then the audience is cheering.
Rose became a stronger character. She definitely began insulting Blanche and Sophia more and was bit a more responsible.
Special Treat Spoiler for those of you that have not seen the eps with Bea Arthur yet.
ROSE HITS DOROTHY WITH THE NEWSPAPER!
GeorgiaboyJeff! 08-01-2005, 08:14 PM Ok I missed the part where Rose tricks the Burglar.. I remembered that the phone rang so your right about Rose. I can't wait for that episode with Dorothy in it! It's almost going to be like Golden Girls.
MikeLutton 08-01-2005, 08:53 PM thats the part they edited out i wanted to see.i cant wait see Dorthy episode il be taping it for sure.better not be edited either.Bea arthor rules lol
i think there schould been a Marathon of golden palace to get it going god i wish it be on dvd.
PZelda 08-01-2005, 10:37 PM Hopefully BV will see that there is a market for GP and put it on DVD. :D In the meantime, I'm taping the episodes and after they finish airing them, I'll transfer everything over to DVD. :)
And in response to this thread, I very much enjoyed that episode! I was 7 years old when GP was originally on, so I had vague memories of it. My mom was a huge GG fan, so she watched GP and I remember watching it with her.
I loved the part where Blanche was talking to the pool guy and Sophia kept walking by and saying, "Tramp." ... "Slut."
ThomasE 08-01-2005, 11:00 PM I have 22 of 24 eps on VHS. I am only missing two from the original run and hopefully I can get these two shows from Lifetime. I did not know this until I read my Entertainment Magazine and they rated the show a "C" I was shocked to find out about them airing it.

ROSE HITS DOROTHY WITH THE NEWSPAPER!
I think the producers and writers gave Rose a lot of Dorothy's traits in The Golden Palace. In my opinion, it just didn't work for her.
ThomasE 08-01-2005, 11:05 PM Do they show the past when Rose says that she wishes Dorothy were to beat the crap out of Blanche? In response to the poster above, I loved to see the nastier side of Rose. It was good to see her being more active than passive. I really loved it when Rose hit Dorothy with the newspaper!
jayman75 08-01-2005, 11:12 PM I loved it... really. The only thing I could have done without is Billy Sullivan. He annoyed me -- too much overacting.
I'm anxious to see how it does in the ratings. I bet it will be big for Lifetime.
One thing... do we ever see the part-time housekeeper in any of the episodes? He/she was mentioned, but I'm just curious for the future.
ThomasE 08-01-2005, 11:18 PM jayman, Billy Sullivan will be gone by Dorothy's visit then will resurface one more time for the purpose of storyline closure. They axed his character and sent him to live with his mother.
desilu90 08-02-2005, 12:57 AM It was purdy good... I laughed and chuckled threw out the whole ep. It was like watching new. Eps cuase I have never seen it before... when it came out the first time around I was only 2 and 3 lol so... anyways... So, Dorthy does come on "The Golden Palace" that's cool... It's wierd not seeing Dorthy... But it's still a very good show! :D
RoseNylund 08-02-2005, 06:58 AM I can not believe they chopped Rose's 911/411 call. That is probably one of THE funniest Golden Palace moments. I mean, couldn't the editors tell when the audience breaks out in a cheer how fantastic it is. There was a lot snipped from the show; glad they are at least showing the END TAG scenes and not just showing credits, although they are doing the half credit thing.
Glad I taped these when they first aired, because syndicated versions really bother me. Hopefully they might make their way out on DVD.
goldengirlsfan03 08-05-2005, 11:46 AM I thought the show was really funny! All of the episodes so far have been good in my opinion.
I can't believe it didn't do well when it originally aired... just my 2 cents! hehe

ThomasE 08-05-2005, 08:27 PM Well, I was about 15 when it was on. The ratings were average to highly below average meaning that it did draw an audience, but not as big as the one on NBC. Also keep in mind that this show was on Friday Nights at 8pm,
Superbatboy 08-06-2005, 04:12 PM I like it. It's not as good as GG, but 10x better than any sitcom currently on TV.
SBTB Geek 08-06-2005, 09:05 PM I haven't been able to catch one episode. I'm always busy at the time is airs.
MOMMYSBOY 08-09-2005, 06:55 PM I love the The Golden Palace 100% :happyface
missjohnR 08-09-2005, 10:19 PM I thought the show was funny. Just like watching the Golden Girls. But I have to admit that it's not the same without Dorothy. They do however mention her, but not the same. I'm so glad she appeared in 2 episodes. I was 12 when the show aired. I remembered some of it with my mom.
Joker85 08-13-2005, 02:59 PM Sadly, my opinion of The Golden Palace hasn't changed much since Lifetime started airing them. I had only seen most of the episodes once before, and they didn't improve much on second viewing. The episodes are just flat. Without the house and Bea Arthur, and with the added members of the cast, it's just not the same. Chuy and Roland really added nothing to the show, the kid was so irritating that they got rid of him halfway through the season, and the characters didn't really stay true to themselves. It's not a terrible show by any means, and as someone already pointed out is better than most of the sitcoms on TV today. But as a sequel show it fails. The wit is gone. There are some funny moments to be sure, but I can certainly understand why this show didn't run beyond just the one season. And from the interviews I've heard from Betty White and Rue McClanahan, I think they realized it was time to stop as well.
ThomasE 08-13-2005, 04:17 PM I love it. I still like The Golden Girls as well. The material was well written and the acting was great. This show definitely gets an "A" in my book. I crack up when I see these episodes.
Dean Winchester 08-13-2005, 05:40 PM thank you!!!! GP is not a bad show by any means, but still, there's no comparison to the parent series. If GP had been the first series instead of GG, I highly doubt the show would've become such a cult classic like it has.

troopoleon8897 08-13-2005, 05:46 PM it's an OK show i just wasn't the same. i still like it just not as much as TGG, infact the only thing i like about it more that TGG is the New Theme music...
TV Girl 06 08-13-2005, 09:15 PM I love it. I was glad that they made Golden Palace because it didn't just leave us hanging there wondering what girls did later on in their lives and what it was like. Too bad it only lasted one season.
Brieannas21 08-14-2005, 03:55 AM I never really cared for it when it first aired. Just wasn't the same
Archie and Edith 08-14-2005, 08:03 PM I think the show was funny.
Archie and Edith 08-14-2005, 08:06 PM I like it. It's not as good as GG, but 10x better than any sitcom currently on TV.
I agree. it is better than any show on now a days.
ThomasE 08-15-2005, 11:44 PM I seem to laugh everytime I watch the show. It rocks! I love the interplay between everyone especially with Roland. Everyone did well in their performances on the series.
GeorgiaboyJeff! 08-17-2005, 05:28 PM Well it seemed like it started out good but now I'm sorta getting bored with it. Last night's Christmas episode had to be the worse so far... I thought it was stupid. Is it me or was Roland like a replacement of Dorothy lol.. It seemed like he started to be around the girls a whole lot more.
LadyBee 08-17-2005, 08:34 PM These last, I dunno four or five episodes have gotten stale. The episode in which Rose interferes with a couples' affair, was quite annoying. I should say, Rose was quite annoying.
The Christmas episode did pretty much suck. But dammit, Don Cheadle had some of the funniest zingers in these weak eps.
Ireneparalegal 08-17-2005, 08:47 PM Not much.
seventies_sitcoms 08-18-2005, 01:36 AM The show is okay. I enjoy it. I'm glad that kid isn't around as much, and any joke referring to marijuana with a comment from Cheech is pretty lame. DUH!!!
Does anybody remember that Whoopi episode with Rue? She played a pothead and was making hash lemon bars in the hotel?
Maybe everybody on GG were smokin' some weed. Maybe that is the real reason Bea left.
troopoleon8897 08-18-2005, 07:17 AM Last Night's Episode was the first episode to make me laugh out loud. I thought that finally Rose was back to her old dumb self when she was ringing the bell, and then it got even funnier when she said something about those darn kids like they can actully run that fast and not be noticed...
dave insinga 08-18-2005, 09:18 PM i think the whole practical joke thing was hysterical
