John Amos played them both on Maude and Good Times

my question - do u feel like that Henry was the same character on Good Times as James?

The only differance was the name change of the first name.

The only big difference, is Henry had a steady job. (a fireman) while James worked two or three jobs at a time just to make ends meat.

It may be similar to David Banner in The Hulk. For years, in the original Marvel Comics, he was Bruce Banner, then suddenly David Banner in the television version... then it was said he was David Bruce Banner.

Perhaps he's Henry James Evans... or James Henry Evans.

Maybe they changed his name to James so his son could be called JJ ( James Jr.) !

This always confused me too. It was the same guy Florida and Henry-James. Also how did they get from NYC to Chicago. Does anyone remember after John Amos left the show there was an episode were a few firefighters uncredited in gear came into the apartment and one of them was John Amos. Anybody?

I am not an expert on this show so I could not tell you an exact episode or airdate. I recall it was not long after he left the show. Also I understand the living members I believe only Esther Rolle is deceased are in the process or negotiating a movie. It would feature the originals. John Amos James was killed in a car accident so how would that shake out.

The two shows are not connected. GT was based in Chicago because it was developed by Eric Monte and based on his life growing up in the 60's

So it's no need to wonder how the Evans got to chicago because the two shows are not connected like the ones below

All in the Family.......Maude

All in the Family.........The Jeffersons

The Jeffersons.........Checking In

All in the Family.............Gloria

Your post was not about Florida Evans, you asked how did the Evans get to Chicago and I said it's no point in trying to figure it out because the two shows are not connected for it to make sense

Good Times was created in 1971

Maude was created in 1972

That's why they are not connected

Yes Florida was the maid on Maude! Apparently they really liked her character and gave Esther Rolle her own show! I'm thinking they liked the name Florida for her as well. Also they must have liked John Amos as her husband too! ;)

That's as far as it goes. The two shows are not connected IMO! They made Florida a whole new person living in Chicago. John Amos was given a new name. And there was never any mention or storyline that they moved from New York to Chicago! So they are NOT supposed to be Florida and Henry from New York! ;)

So the debate continues because technically it is a spin off, but not really because if they wanted it to be, they would have mentioned Maude ,her former employer and that they moved from New York, and they never did ! They wouldn't have changed Henry's name to James! So the only thing is that they kept the name Florida, (probably because it's cool, I never met a person named Florida before) :) other than that it's a whole different lady! IMO! :)

Yup, no mention of living in NYC or how they got to Chicago
