The Season Two disc set is selling like hotcakes, so a Season Three set should follow. But I wouldn't count on that happening too soon because I'm not sure Fox is prepared. Something I noticed on the Season Two set is that all the new materials -- interviews and bonus stuff -- was produced (according to the copyright date) in 2002. That's the year the Season One set came out. So they must have already been preparing the Season Two set for production at the time they were about to launch Season One, thinking it would soon follow. But the Season One set flopped (mainly due to bad marketing), so I guess this Season Two stuff has been sitting on the shelf since then. They decided to finally release it this year, not having any idea how well it might do. My guess is they probably haven't get anything together yet for Season Three, wanting this time to see how well Season Two does before they go into motion on Season Three. It seems pretty obvious, with the brisk sales of Season Two, that Season Three will be launched. The question is simply how long will it take before we get to see it, because they probably haven't even started preparing anything for that release.

That's a really good point. But hopefully the sales of Season 2 will send a message to Fox, and they'll get started on bonus material for S3 soon! I really hope we get all the seasons on DVD eventually. I think it's just a matter of time.

I was a little surpised at how lame the S2 extras are. I like the "Moore on Sunday" segment, but that was obviously done in the 70s. The other stuff, produced by the Asners, was just awful, especially that Newsbeat thing. Sheesh! Still, I love the episodes and have been enjoying those and I did like to see the Emmy segments also.

The special features are nice and all, and it would be great to have more stuff for season 3, but really, if I could just get the episodes I'd be happy.

I read in an article season two was produced almost simultaneously with season 1 (the sets), so that explains the 2002 copyright. Fox is probably making millions with season two now, so one of the idiots will be sure to realize that releasing season two wasn't so bad after all and maybe they should give season three a-go.

i think that FOX took a big loss on Season 1, and no matter how well Season 2 sells, they will probably release Season three without very much in the way of extra features... the features for S2 were all done a long time ago, so they were just thrown on there, FOX probably wont want to waste any money on extras.

Not that it matters that much to me - as long as the episodes are complete I'm happy, anything else is just icing on the cake! :D

I agree, especially since the extras on S2 are so lame. I finished watching the episodes today and they are so great!

I certainly respect Lolac's opinion on the matter of the MTM-2 bonus supplements -- but I totally disagree with the assessment as to their supposed "lameness".

The only purely "lame" special feature, IMHO, is the "Newsbeat" segment, and even THAT item is slightly redeemed in credibility via a very clever and well-done "re-created MTM closing theme montage".

All the other MTM-2 bonuses are very good, IMO --

1.) A 57-minute documentary (a logical extension of the Season-One featurette, with the interviews here obviously being done on the exact same day as that first-season "Making-Of" feature).

2.) Two Emmy Awards clips from May 1972, with Valerie Harper and Ed Asner (and Sally Struthers of AITF to boot).

3.) A very humorous "Mad" parody/spoof on TMTMS (and very lengthy as well). It's excellent on a BIG-screen TV; heaven help those with a puny 19-incher, however; I'm doubting that'd be fun to read the small text.

4.) A small Photo Gallery.

5.) Three Audio Commentary Tracks, inc. the voices of Murray and Lou.

6.) Opening Theme Comparisons/Karaoke.

7.) Trivia Game.

8.) And by far the best MTM bonus on either the S.1 or S.2 boxed set -- The "Moore On Sunday" 21-minute featurette, with gobs of behind-the-camera footage (circa May 1973) of Mary, Valerie, and crew filming the new fourth-season Main Title sequence. (It cost $15,000 to produce those {approx.} 45 seconds of film; and the Director {David Davis} worked on it for FREE, too!) :-)

-------------

The above amounts to some very nice supplementals, which are deserving of much more than the word "lame", to be sure.

My 2-cents' worth of MTM food for thought.

I like the extras myself, the Trivia Games are always neat. I love the Newsbeat thing and the Moore on Sunday. And even the Theme Song for all Seasons are awesome. ;)

I agree too! I can live without the extras -- just give us the episodes!

Well robyrob, they did come out with extras for TBNS S2, so I expect the same for MTM S3.

I didn't pick up MTM S1 until recently and when I pulled it out, there was a small flier advertising the S2 release, which was scheduled to come out in March of 2003.

Apparently, they were going to put out S2 in '03, but they pushed back the date...

Yeah, you could say that...

Apparently, MTM Season 1 was a bomb. There were many factors to that, of course... the cost of the extras, the restoration, and the kinda overinflated price of the set.

However, at this point, I'd be happy to see a remastered and restored season 3 that looks as good as 1 and 2, without extras. As long as the episodes themselves were out released uncut.

MTM is one of the few shows that (IMO) got better (though the early seasons were good too) as the seasons went on. Does anyone else think this?

We're nervous. Mary fans had to wait 3 YEARS before a second release--- we're not relaxing any.

One of my other faves Cheers will have its sixth year released on the 13th of Sept. The cover art is already in for season seven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And its only a two month wait between seasons six and seven.

Thats what we want for Mary too.

I just want to know who is buying CHeers for it to have 2 Releases in a 3 month span. Well I think you have to wait for atlest 2-3 Months before you start talking about the next season release. 30 days is not enough time to see how it's doing in sales

I'm going to be buying Cheers season 6 and 7. Maybe not the exact day it comes out, but I'm still going to be getting them.

I hope season 3 of TMTMS Show comes out soon. Maybe not as quick as Cheers as some of you have mentioned, but late '05 or early '06? I think that would be nice.

Absolutely! I hate Season One, I can tolerate Season Two enough that I bought it. I thought Season Three was very enjoyable with a number of really funny moments. Season Four was hilarious. The last three seasons have way too many classic moments to mention, and laughs galore in most episodes. By this time, all the characters had come into their own. The writers knew them so well and knew instinctively how to write them. And they and the actors knew by this time how these characters should interact with one another. In terms of performance and consistency, I think everyone was truly at the top of the game in Season Seven. That's the year we got to see Sue Ann's bedroom for the first time, with that brilliant piece where Ted walks in, looks up to the ceiling, and primps. That single action told us something about both Ted and Sue Ann. That season, we saw Mary (maybe for the first time) quite unsuccessfully (but hilariously) try to tell Lou an all-out lie. Later that season, the FINALLY went out on a date (with hysterical consequences). That's also the year of the famous Mary-in-the-bathtub scene (which may trump the Laura-in-the-bathtub-with-her-toe-stuck-in-the-faucet scene). And of course the brilliant, classic final episode.

I agree, as well. TMTMS never had a "bad" season, as many shows do, but I think it improved a great deal with each season. Season Seven, as has already been pointed out, had a LOT of wonderful episodes. I really do hope we get those episodes on DVD someday.

I also agree about the show getting better. I think the show was strong in the earlier seasons, but it simply wasn't all that funny. I recently watched a season two episode called "Don't Break The Chain", and I was amazed at how bad I thought it was; but then you have strong episodes like "Some Of My Best Friends Are Rhoda" and "Is A Friend In Need"..

I think the third season started to turn things around, as far as the comedy factor; and the fourth season was just all around brilliant.

Then, the amazing thing was, even after losing Rhoda, and not really adding a new character to fill the void, by simply using the characters in the newsroom to a better potential, the show became better than ever; seasons five and six were top of the line, and seven was pretty much in that same class. I don't understand the decline in ratings that took place the seventh season, it just doesn't make sense. From the way that people talk, it sounds like the show was just as popular as ever, and why not? There were hilarious episodes like "Mary Midwife", "Mary, The Writer", and "Ted's Temptation", and touching ones like "Ted's Change Of Heart" and "Mary's Insomnia".. The show really went out on top, no question about it. The only episode that season that I wasn't absolutely crazy about was "The Ted and Georgette Show"..

Maybe next year after Fox has released all of Mash, they would need another show to take it's place, such as Mary!! IMO-they should release it just like Mash too-but not like the Bob Newhart Show-even though I love having Bob-it would be better on single-sided discs. Well, let's hope they will release more Mary!!!! And then Rhoda!!!! And the Wonder Years and WKRP!!!!!
