A friend of mine was wondering, and I don't really know the answer myself...

What's a BA and an AA?

Four years earns you a Bachelor's Degree. Two years, an Associate's Degree.

BA is bachelors degree and AA is associative arts degree-but what those are i dont really know

You can also get a certificate which is right before an AA.

You can also acquire two fields: Arts (i.e. Bachelors of Science) or Sciences (Masters of Arts), depending on the type of major.

Technology and Education majors are generally classified as "Science" while Journalism and Graphics are generally classified as "Arts."

Some community colleges even offer bachelors programs. Mine has one for English majors, and you take courses for it at the college you're physically attending, but the courses are offered through an unversity. I used to be an English major and I was in that program, but not now. I switched to a journalism major and I'll be heading off to an university to finish up my last two years. :)

Just so you don't get confused, a higher education facility ending with "college" and not "unversity" doesn't mean it's a community college (necessarily).

CCs are great for people who don't want to pay disgustingly high university tuition just to take their gen ed courses, which are basically repeats of HS. It's a great way to save money and get acclimated to college life if you're not ready to take the gigantic leap from HS to university/adulthood in one day.

I'm doing the same thing. I've changed my major a few times, thank God I didn't spend too much money on my classes. I started at a community college, because I had no idea what I wanted to do. Why waste the money?

Community colleges also offer no dorms. At a community college you'll find more people older than the typical college age than at a University. Community colleges are a good thing, but I couldn't go to one. That would mean I'd still be living at home, and I'd still probably be sharing my room! My older brother graduated 17th in his class (of about 300), and he goes to a community college, but he's planning on heading to school somewhere in NYC next fall.

Yep. It's interesting talking to some of the older people. Alot of them are my parents age, and have kids. I had a few acquatainces last semester who were older that were very nice.

Most people that attend a CC usually live at home, so they're less likely to be the wild frat-boys you'd see an a university.

I've been doing the FAFSA/grant thing, and it has helped me GREATLY. I haven't had to pay out of my own pocket for college yet. I love it! :)

I did. FAFSA can go suck it...saying my parents made too much money. Sure, $75k is tons. :rolleyes: Oh well, I only paid about $3k a year when I lived at home and I only had to take out a loan for my freshman year.

Yes and no. It is a mixed bag, just like most any place. The adults normally take the night classes because they work in the day. The day classes are probably like any other university, you have the over achievers and the slackers.

The ones who have done the best are the ones who have a goal in mind, and work every day toward that goal. The ones who fail are the ones who keep putting work off.
