I don't know but where I came from throwing rocks was part of being a kid. Everyone did it.
Brian 07-17-2005, 11:53 PM I'm going to side with the officers. The boys were throwing water balloons but she threw rocks. Water balloons don't hurt people.
EDIT: Now if she was previously bullied by him in the past, I think they should show a LITTLE compassion.
I agree with Brian. I think the girl is at fault as well as the boy. Water balloons may be a
nuisance but they are not considered a deadly weapon. The girl ought to have showed
some restraint.

I'm not sure if I'd make it assault with a deadly weapon, but if the guy were to get a concussion or have his eye put out, etc., then yeah. And if the kid died, then definitely.
Jrnygrl 07-18-2005, 12:31 AM Okay let me get this straight, we can arrest a child and put a tracking devise on her, but we can't keep track of people who are here as terorrist cells in our country, or high risk child molesters who pose a threat to our children.
Just wanted to make sure I had it right.

Your right, this country(usa) needs to shape up. It's like the guy who got shot while holding his baby girl and the police shot them 90 times and themonther was trying to stop the police, the baby died so did the father, but he was on drus and had some,I forgot where it was,to many people on drugs,it's just messes up your mind.

Causing serious injuries to other kids to where they have to go to the hospital and get stitches isn't part of being a kid. you can't assume that she was throwing light gravel at them. the rocks obviously were pretty big if he had to go to the hospital.
Water balloons are harmless. rocks are not. there was no injustice served in this case.

Maybe I overspoke in this case because it was water balloons. When I was a kid we did throw rocks at each other. I got hit a few times. It never ocurred to me to call the police. It was just the way it was.Heck some kid shot a Bee Bee gun at me once and I never called the police.
I still think the police over-reacted though. Putting an ankle bracelet on her. They don't even do that with a lot of murderers. I think their might be a civil suit here but I don't think its a criminal case. If she was older then 11 I might have a different opinion.

Yah, I know I did. I think that 30 days of house arrest is completely ridiculous for an eleven year old who threw a rock. If some kid was pelting me with water balloons I'd throw a rock at them, too.

the kid had to have stitches. he could have been killed. you can't assume that the rock weighed just a few ounces.

Uh, hello, did you ever get hit with a water balloon in the eye?
Mr. Television 07-18-2005, 04:23 AM Uh, hello, did you ever get hit with a water balloon in the eye?
and if it would have damaged her eye I wonder if those kids would have been arrested too?
MsOrange 07-18-2005, 09:20 AM i'd like to see an article with a bit more information

so would I.
barwars 07-18-2005, 10:06 AM Let the boy throw a few rocks at her. End of story.

That's not going to solve anything.
barwars 07-18-2005, 10:21 AM That's not going to solve anything.
Why not? You kill somebody, you might get the death penalty.
You throw rocks at somebody, you might get rocks thrown back.
Makes sense to me....
*MIBabe03* 07-18-2005, 11:05 AM Wow. I guess it's good that I never got caught doing that. ;)

Yeah, as a kid, where I come from, no-one ever threw rocks at each other. I did get hit with a paintball once in the leg though while playing paintball of course.
That hurt like hell.
I think there was some slight over-reaction to this case, though. I could see suspending the girl or even expelling her, but arresting her seems a bit much.

MsOrange 07-18-2005, 02:39 PM The 11-year-old said the officers grabbed her by her shirt from behind.
I think they went a bit far, I mean, chances are this girl didn't do this in a viscous matter, she was scared and did the only thing she knew to do. Does that mean she should go unpunished? No, but being charged w/ a felony is a bit much. I think the police need to spend more efforts on REAL criminals.
This is not the face of a hard criminal
Mr. Television 07-18-2005, 04:22 PM 3 squad cars and a helicopter. Yea it looks like they didn't overreact.
She was bring pelted by water ballons and probably grabbed the first thing she could find.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-18-2005, 04:48 PM it reminds me of all those shirts little girls where that say "boys are stinky, throw rocks at them". Maybe that's where she got the idea from.
barwars 07-18-2005, 04:58 PM This is not the face of a hard criminal
Well, she is behind bars.
IMakeBurgers 07-18-2005, 06:24 PM the rocks obviously were pretty big if he had to go to the hospital.
Not if she had a great throw. ;)
Fresh Berry 07-18-2005, 06:32 PM Yeah i think throwing rocks a people while there just throwing water balloons is wrong but all that stuff like house aresset and stuff was that really needed?

IMakeBurgers 07-18-2005, 07:19 PM I can guarantee you, if this little girl came from a wealthy WHITE family, we wouldnt be talking about this right about now. And dont call me racist, I'm white.
EmoJoe 07-18-2005, 07:33 PM 3 cars and a helecopter? For thorwing rocks?!?!?
I mean what she did was wrong, but they're acting like she killed him. Five days in jail and being put under house arrest is a little too much.
