That line couldn't have been more false. In real life, Al Lewis was a left-wing Democrat (which is what I also so happen to be :D).

And Archie was a huge bigot, Carrol in real life fought for minority rights and couldn't have been smarter - he had a masters degree in English (probably why he could slaughter it so well)! ;)

I'm sure they made Grandpa a Republican because it was funny irony compared to being such an "unorthodox" family to everyone else.
