View Full Version : Least Favorite Episode
TV Girl 06 07-14-2005, 12:14 PM We all talk about the episodes that we love the most. Are there any episodes that are your least favorite? Or episodes that weren't really up there for you?
*This is just out of curiosity*
As for me, I can't really think of any off the top of my head. But there's very few in that category.
desilu #1 07-14-2005, 12:40 PM There is one that I can think of right now and that is "Lucy goes to Scotland". That is the one where she dreams of being in Scotland and being the last Mc Guilicudy and being eaten by the two headed dragon. Ugh! That was awful! I hate to say it but when I watch my European episode tape set I skip that everytime. I can't believe the writers couldn't come up with something better than that.

I know exactly what you mean...this is the ONLY episode of I Love Lucy that I don't watch...any other episode, I can watch any time! But I've never liked the Scotland episode.
Looking back, it's amazing that a show of such consistently high quality came up with that one... did the writers go on strike or something?

I know what you mean. I don't know about the writers going on strike but somebody was smoking something and it wasn't Phillip Morris!
Kazza 07-15-2005, 12:22 AM I love Scotland! It was unusual for the show to make such a big production with musical numbers. Desi wearing a kilt is yummy too; what a brave guy!
TV Girl 06 07-15-2005, 11:43 AM Do any of u think that episode was bad b/c of how everything was acted out? Not necessarily b/c of what the writers wrote? I'm sure there's many possibilities.

What do you mean by that?

Could it be possible that the cast was told to act out the script in a certain way? Maybe the writers had something else in mind that was different. It could've been the way everything was acted out that made the episode bad. I'm just taking some guesses lol.
Yeah, I don't really like the Scotland one either. But I can't really think of any episode that was truly awful.

I disagree with that. The cast got together to rehearse and the music was what put the episode together. If the writers or the cast had something else in mind, they would've written something else instead. Desi knew that if there was something that wouldn't be funny or appropriate they would change it just for Lucy. There are many examples of musicals these days with great results (Evita, Chicago)
A least favorite of mine would be 'Drafted'.
Tweety 07-15-2005, 08:01 PM ...A least favorite of mine would be 'Drafted'.
I remember that episode...doesn't seem to be shown as often as some others...
One thing that cracks me up about that ep is when Ethel is knitting socks or something for Fred, and Fred finds the socks and thinks Ethel is pregnant! It's especially funny knowing how much they hated each other...
But I think you're right, that wasn't one of their better episodes.

That would've been a whole new twist to inmaculate conception
I read somewhere that at first they got along good until Bill heard Vivian making a comment about him behind his back. They had a perfect screen chemistry even after this incident.
gidgetgrape 07-15-2005, 10:51 PM I don't like the episodes with Tennesse Ernie Ford. His accent is so annoying to me.

Yeah I heard about that to. They were definately great on screen together. Were there any other reasons why they disliked each other or was it just because of that one incident? I think I've heard of some other things that happened with Bill drinking a lot. I'm not completely sure.

I think that was the main reason. Before getting the ILL job, Desi made Bill promise to stay away from alcohol during working hours but that he would've been more than happy to split a bottle afterwards. Bill kept his promise; his only clause was to be able to attend baseball games when the Yankees were playing.
savy333 07-16-2005, 10:05 PM The episode with Little Ricky's school play is bad! Almost half the show is this boring school pagent. There were a couple funny lines for the whole show I remember. Does anyone know what episode I'm talking about?
Tweety 07-16-2005, 10:48 PM Yes, that's the one in which Fred wears the "frog" costume and Lucy plays the wicked witch, and Ethel the good witch...
On another board, the topic was comparing I Love Lucy and Leave it To Beaver... I pointed out that I Love Lucy had NO children with any acting talent at all, while the vast majority of kids on LITB were excellent actors. This episode pretty much proves that point... the kids were terrible.
I thought it was funny when Fred opened the frog's mouth real wide and practically swallowed Little Ricky alive, while feeding Li'l Ricky a line he'd forgotten. Just exactly the kind of thing that could happen in a pageant like that...
Kazza 07-16-2005, 11:22 PM I don't like the pageant episode either or Stage Fright. I think Little Ricky did good during 'The Ricardos Visit Cuba' when he had to play the drums with Desi.
Coffeecup 07-17-2005, 10:16 AM Just a day or so they ran "Lucy raises chickens" a sort of two part episode for the next one is "Lucy does the tango". When those episodes come on I pass. When I see Lucy and Ricky dance and those eggs get all over Lucy, I just think what a mess.

'The tango' brought the longest laugh ever on ILL. Lucy enjoyed getting herself messy; remember the grapes, the eggs and many others? ;)

No it wasn't the actors, it was the horrible script. The actors only do what's in the script. IMO, the whole story was awful. They could have had them go visit Scotland and meet up with some long lost family and have them get mixed up in some hair brained scheme because it was Lucy's family.

The Scotland plot wasn't awful; they couldn't make it to Scotland for real so they put in a dream sequence. It was good that this episode had no scheming in it; makes it a nice change of pace. The writers did the best they could with what they had.
Oh, I agree with the "Stage Fright" episode! That one is really bad --- especially when Lucy puts the shoes on her knees and acts along with the band.
But still.....
I'd still take that episode over any sitcom on air today!
I don't like the pageant episode either or Stage Fright. I think Little Ricky did good during 'The Ricardos Visit Cuba' when he had to play the drums with Desi.
Yes, he was good in the Cuba ep, but there are a couple of obvious reasons. One, in acting his part he just had to do what any kid would do when meeting relatives for the first time-- say those 'polite' lines his parents have told him to say and use all the manners he knows. And, 2, he was featured playing the drums, and that's what his talent really was, and seeing him play on television was what got him the part of LR when Lucy and Desi happened to see him.

This is the one and only episode that I REFUSE to watch. I taped ALL the episodes and I have a collection, but the Scotland Dream episode is not in it.
Lodee 07-22-2005, 06:51 PM I don't particularly like:
Drafted
Lucy Plays Cupid
New Neighbors
Inferiority Complex
If they were on I'd still watch though.
LucyLucyLucy55 09-26-2005, 06:54 PM Scotland was the worst episode, after that any episode with Little Ricky.

You and I think alike Lodee -I do like The New Neighbors but not the others.
Drafted seems very un I Love Lucy like for some reason.
I don't think Inferiority Complex is very good it kind of drags dosen't seem to have much energy
I don't care for two of the 'neighbor ' episodes-Lucy Plays Cupid and Young Fans
Freddy Fillmore 10-07-2005, 09:01 PM "Lucy Plays Cupid"
"Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Trying To Murder Her"
"The Amateur Hour"
"New Neighbors"
"Nursey School"
"Lucy Goes To A Rodeo"
"The Ricardos Are Interviewed"
"The Ricardos Dedicate A Statute"
"The Inferiority Complex"
"The Camping Trip"
:talk:
Lucy4President 11-05-2005, 10:29 AM "Lucy Goes To Scotland" is my all time LEAST favorite episode too!
I think it's horrible. Usually, Lucy and Horrible don't belong together but in this situation............ ohno:
NostalgiaAce777 11-13-2005, 12:03 AM Never liked the ones where Lucy and ethel fight....sure they make up in the end, but never liked the silly squabbles.
Wasn't crazy about the one in the country with her and Mary Jane (she dun a bad thang;) ) and Ethel gets close to Mary Jane and Lucy feels left out.
I dunno i always feel bad for Lucy, when she is left out of things, be it Ricky's show or whatever. To me it's all about Lucy.
The rest of the show could be on and the others are doing their thing, but my eyes never leave Lucy.
